It is possible too get past that Enemy in Ankor Watt without the Earthquake, I know it. The thing is that you kinda have to kill it before it starts spinning cause when you aproch it the first time it just stands there and wont start spinning till you are close enough so all you have to do is hit it with that energyball or whatever it's named.

Its almost as if the enemy would start moving to block the path right when its in view...right? I never even thought about using the dark friar to kill it.

ahh excellent run, oh btw, i managed to get the worm come up and attack, i think it is just random with no chance of manipulation, guess u gotta pray ur lucky and get him hit you early

Remember, this run is a no-damage run ... I don't want Sandworm to hit me. I want it to stick it's head out of the ground and spit eggs in the air. However, for now, it's only jumping from side to side or upside down ... I'm soon going to re-investigate on this. Patience, friends.

i got small good news, i managed to beat sand fanger without getting hit in relatively short amount of time ~ 1 min or so, it wasnt particularly difficult, psycho dash was quite helpful at manipulating his appearances, it seems, since when i first struck him with psycho dash, he seemed to appear and attack quite often with worm spit, which helped to tip the tide a bit, so i think you could try it out and work it around and probably finish it much quicker than mine

So we're pulling out old SNES games and replaying them. Naturally, when we found an awesome glitch in Illusion of Gaia, the first (and only) place I figured anyone would care is here. So anyway, it's a good thing you're only a litte past point where the glitch occurs. I haven't watched the speed run, so I don't know if you exploited it, but here goes anyway. This bug can first be executed at the Great Wall of China, after you get Will's spin dash to catapult yourself over slopes. I don't know if it has any uses after this, as I don't even remember using the spin dash more than twice. It you manage to align Will in the air with the exact pixels required to go in a door (in the background), he will instantly enter the door without any walking animation. This'll probably save you about 40 frames every time you have to do it.

Alright, I've been messing with your run through the great wall. I've found three different places where you can strike an enemy as you run by with a minimal loss of time (one loses only 14 frames, one loses 28, and one loses 32) and no desynchs once you've left the room. (Though for that 14-frame-loss one it might have actually been less work to just re-record the whole room.) None of those changes the sandworm's pattern significantly. After messing with the sandworm some I've come to the conclusion that it's largely dependant on what actions you take once you enter the pit. "Why should this boss depend on what I do when none of the others did?" you say? Simple. The Sandworm actually has an attack which depends directly upon where you're standing when it performs said attack. (When it leaps straight up and then back into the sand.) Whenever it does that move it picks whichever of several pre-determined spots is closest to where you're standing. Since that move depends on where Will's standing, I guess they just re-wrote the whole AI and it always runs the same set of numbers, or something. In any case, none of those three extra-hit-runs got the Sandworm to do anything but the left-to-right leaping move to start off, and after that it's largely dependant on user input, so there's no point in losing even the minimal amount of frames they lose. Summary: It's just going to take a lot of work to optimize the Sandworm fight, 'cause there's no real way to get it to behave. Sorry, man. =\

Like I said a little earlier, after the final exams are over at school, I'll have a little more motivation to finish this run. Actually, I'm already missing speed running. This is a good thing :) It means I'll continue and finish this run soon after my exams are over, which is June 11th. About that glitch you found: I don't think I understand what you mean perfectly ... and also, 40 frames is not a huge amout of frames. I'm aiming for no-damage and that's all. I didn't plan on using glitches (since I didn't know of any), and I don't think I'm going to change these plans. Thanks for wanting to help, though. It's really appreciated.

* UPDATE * Finally, after a little less than two months of frustration, I beat the crap out of Sandworm. The fight lasts around 55 seconds, which is great since I hated that damn worm more than anything else that I hate. Really, this boss completely made me lose the will to time attack. After two months, I finally decided that even though THAT fight wouldn't be perfect, I would do it anyway. I should have done that long ago. It is done now, friends. Enjoy it, because I will NOT re-do this one. That's really the worst point in the game so far. Even worst than the raft scene. * UPDATE * When I said the pace would go back to normal, I was right! In less than 24 hours, I completed dungeon #7: Moutain Temple. This dungeon doesn't have any boss to fight, but it is still full of enemies and quite long, when playing on the console. I figured out that when tool-assisted, this dungeon is a piece of cake! Plus, when watching at full speed, it gives quite a good impression, in my opinion. So here it is, dungeon #7: Moutain Temple completed. Enjoy! Yeah, you're either going to hate or love doing Ankor Watt. After doing a quick pass through, you can spend most of your time running, but there are just enough places where you have to stop and kill something that it gets frustrating. I'd also like to know how whoever it was managed to get around getting Freedan's Quake smasher. Run looks great, I didn't even really notice that the sandworm fight took that long. I was more bored by the wait for the lilly pad at Watermia, actually. =P

Babel? Don't you have to do the whole tower as Shadow? Or do you mean the Pyramid?

I'm actually at this point right now in my run. I was wondering the same thing .. because I just tested it with Freedan and I can't hit that enemy. I'll just make the run normally, going to get Earthquaker.

Yeah ... well I didn't find any way to manipulate that damn lilly pad, so I did as I did with Sandworm: Do with what you have.

Meant Pyramid, my mistake. Also, you play all non-fighting parts of Babel as Will, not Shadow.

* UPDATE * Updates are coming really fast these days! In less than 24 hours (again), I completed dungeon #8: Ankor Wat. This dungeon doesn't have any boss either. This one is basically: run and dodge. I had to pick up a few items on the way, like the Black Diamond Glasses, which were not required for me to play, but when used, give a lot more appreciation for the viewer. I don't think you would've liked seeing a very bright white screen for a few minutes. On other news, this Tool-Assisted Time-Attack (TATA) has now gone past the 1h30m mark. This is a totally useless statistic, but I think it's quite cool to know how much I have done so far. What's left to be done: Dao, Pyramid, Babel Tower and then the Comet fight. I think the total time for the run might be a little more than 2 hours. We'll see. So here it is, dungeon #8: Ankor Wat completed. Enjoy! I wouldn't have minded if you skipped the dark glasses, we wouldn't miss that much. I think the only way to kill that golem before he jumps down is to use boosted dark friar. Even if it would be faster, it would be pretty boring unless you could avoid waiting in line in Euro. Wow, the end is near. The pyramid should be interesting, though the boss is always annoying. Say, can you get any speed by using the spin dash on a long run? There are a couple really long ones in Angkor Wat. Maybe it just takes too long to charge.

Actually, I know you can cut in the line to at least the 3rd from the door, which drastically cuts the amount of time you'd have to wait. And I'm pretty sure you can walk in the exit if you time it right as someone's walking out. But I don't believe it would actually save any time, 'cause that line moves slow.

Hmm .. I don't really know. But I think it just looks ugly when entering a room: "Attack, start to run, charge while running, stop, press L and R to start spinning (starting to move with spin dash is quite long too), plus the boost you get only lasts for a little while. Of course, there WOULD be a little gain in frames, but I don't really mind that at all. Plus, I don't think the gain would be really big. So unless someone really really wants me to do that whenever I can, I won't. I think it's ugly, and I don't want my speedrun to be ugly.

It's looking good, and the end is approaching. you've done a great job with this run so far, despite some frustration with the Sandworm (betcha can't wait to fight him AGAIN, eh?) I don't have much in the way of specific comments, except that I wouldn't have minded to skip the Black Crystal Glasses, since it isn't required to pick them up and it does take a bit of time. I could have lived with seeing a white screen for a bit, but it's your decision. Sometimes, I guess, you have to give up some speed for aesthetics. Good luck with it.

* UPDATE * I swear, this is the very last update there'll ever be for my Illusion of Gaia Tool-Assisted Time-Attack. I have just completed the game! The movie totals 456745 frames, using approximately 6091 (because I hex-edited certain places, which didn't increase the count), and lasts 2 hours 6 minutes and 52seconds. Of course, this doesn't include the ending animation.
