Hello! I'm totally new to this forum, but I touched lightly on TASing Super Mario 64 about a year or two ago, then stopped for a long while. I was hoping to pick back up where I left off, on a different, newer computer. I just spent the past day getting Mupen 64 to work, and now that I have it set up, I noticed a problem that ultimately will make TASing impossible for me in the future. My issue is this: Upon selecting "Record from start" in the creation of a movie in Mupen64rr, the game shows a black screen. Audio is present, and I can apparently still control the game, but I cannot see anything. The same happens when attempting to playback a movie. After this happens, I cannot run SM64, nor any other game for that matter, without getting the same exact problem. The only way to fix this is to close and reopen M64rr. An important clue to what's the matter is that I get a message before running any ROM. "Your video card doesn't support GL_ARB_texture_mirror_repeat extension" If this IS an issue with my video card, then I feel I may be screwed, but I have 0 experience with Mupen, let alone any emulator. If anybody can provide some sort of insight on my problem from a more professional standpoint, I'd appreciate it.

You could always try Bizhawk, although I'm not sure if the N64 core is ready for TASing yet. http://tasvideos.org/Bizhawk.html

Beware, there'll be the deprecation of Mupen64-rr - no longer accepted in the future. So, BizHawk'll be obligatory for N64 within 17 months.

The above dudes give sound advice. If you haven't got used to Mupen yet, just forget about it and use BizHawk. It's much better in pretty much every respect, and is guaranteed to be supported and developed in foreseeable future.

I see. Admittedly, I had tried using Bizhawk before Mupen when trying to pick up again. I found a lot of it confusing and couldn't even figure out how to auto fire on the virtual pad. Thanks for the advice though

You can set a Virtual Pad button to autofire by right-clicking it. However, note that Autofire is currently broken, and it doesn't look like the devs have started fixing it. Autofire works in BizHawk 1.9.1 though, you could try that version if you need autofire. If you have other questions about how to use BizHawk, feel free to ask here or in the BizHawk subforum. As BizHawk is being actively developed, you can also ask the devs to implement needed features for you to TAS, within reason.
