After a long time of testing, and fixing bugs, it's finally here and ready for you to use! Added Features: * Contrary to the original VBA (which failed to 100% support Movie recording) Movie recording is now what apprs to be flawless. * Slowdowns, as well as Throttle Adjusments, are usable during anytime of movie recording / playback. * Re-records work, compeltely, and efficiently. * NEW : Playback Re-recorids (You can watch back a movie and Create a Save-state, ie before you fault in a time attack, then load that state to continue with your recording.) * NEW : Throttle keys: + and -. (They seem a little dodgy - work needed) Thanks to phreak97 and myself for testing, and thanks to shanedudddy2 for spending all the time coding in features i requested! Hope you all enjoy trying this out, and feel free to comment on any faults / bugs, or any issues you may have! Please Comment! - Volkov LIST OF DOWNLOAD MIRRORS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mirror 1 Thanks to phil Mirror 2 Thanks to BoltR ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ requested features (ie. dont message us about these ones again :P); frame advance mode (frame my frame gameplay option) record from restart (as the snes9x emulator does) change file extension of movies from .VMV to .VGM

Remember to link the source code so Bisqwit or someone else should port those features in VBA Linux version. Damn it, I want to test it but link is down like you said. Or can you send me via email? phil9623@hotmail.com

Why are you forcing people to wait like that? After almost 24 hours later the link is always down. Is it true that VBA+rerecord? Edit: Now 36 hours later.

36 hours, yes. Can we officially deem this a gigantic hoax? Or should we wait a full 48?

How do you change the speed?

I think an explanation of this so-called slowdown needs to be explained. This isn't like any kind of slowdown I'VE ever seen. This is more like lag and/or choppiness. I loaded up Rockman World V and tried messing around with the options at the start of Mercury's level. I dunno about anyone else, but real save/load state hotkey mapping would really be appreciated. Even if I map those two keys to ctrl and alt, let's say, it's awkward and annoying to have to move to hit one of those two buttons while trying to play a game. There seems to be a Slowdown button in the joypad setup. Why not add save/load stating control options there? No way I'll be able to properly do a run unless I can sit and concentrate on what I'm doing with the ability to use the shoulder buttons to save/load when I need. And before ANYONE says it, I can't use any keyboard emulators. As I've said countless times, they do NOT work. Back to the slowdown... for one thing, it's hard to judge what the hell speed you're currently tinkering with. Second, what's the button mappable for? All IT seems to do is make things go lightning fast...and only when the button is HELD down. As I said, I went into a level to test things out. Let's say Rock is standing against a wall on the left side of the screen. After hitting Minus (Plus?) a certain number of times to slow things down, I tried moving Rock. He does not move. He chops through thin air. From the left wall, he was a good few steps forward. And you cannot see him WALK there, as all normal slow-motion emulators let you. No, he blinks out of existance, then blinks back in to the point he moves to. Not only would this be reeeally irritating for any kind of lengthy movie, it's nothing more than forcably lagging the game. Rock isn't moving THAT much slower. So, unless I'm just not quite getting what the hell's going on... >> Gens' setup is currently my favorite of everything. You can map the save/load state buttons. You can set how slow you want things to run after you enter slow-down mode...which is ALSO mappable in the joypad setup screen. Might I recommend (if it's at all possible) to do something similar? I don't mean to come off as being irritated. I was just wanting to sink my claws into a Rockman run and it seems I'm not going to be able to.

Well, right now the frame advance, and slowdown functions are kinda buggy. For example of the frame advance: Tapping the button doesn't seem to skip a frame, while holding the frame skip button seems to run the game at 7% speed. Edit: I dunno how Forgotten wrote the throttle function, but I think it will need to be rewritten to work properly... I think the way it's coded in now is probably fine, but it would help for the current throttle amount to be displayed on screen when it's changed. Well that and rewriting the throttle code. For me the key mapping is good enough. I set everything up like I have it for FCEU, and it's good. Rerecording works, and seemingly works well. Doesn't seem to be any problem there. However there needs to be an option to begin recording from a hard reset (power off). Also it would be nice if you could have a menu like in other emulators which give you a little menu showing play length, total frames, total rerecords, and have a little area for an authors description.

The emulator is choppy when slowed down? Blame the Emulator's Original Programmer.. - Volkov

In reply to BoltR... All these things will come in due time ;) This was ONLY a test to get re-records work like everyone wanted....with some extra features... All requested features should work in due time....just wait...and the record from reset is one of the ones at the top of the list as its pretty important... - Volkov

There should be something that indicates if it is recording, playing or not in the screen like blip did in FCEU.

Oh another feature that would be nice is a way to display the current frame number in the recording. This can be VERY useful to find out which path is fastest. Of course this would be good to be togglable like FCEU. Also if you haven't noticed I editted my previous post. You posted RIGHT as I editted it, and your message was forced to the next page.

Awesome. Still needs some work though. Here are some questions/comments: Frame advance actually works acceptably well for me. The only problem is that "Frame Skip" has to be set to 0 and "Automatic" turned off, otherwise some/most of the frames you're advancing through will get skipped -- Frame Advance should force all frames to be drawn even if frame skip is on. Also about frame advance, I think it's a really good thing that there is sound even when using frame advance, since audio cues in games can be very useful, but maybe you could make it stop repeating the same sound over and over and over when the game is left paused after advancing frames? One more thing about frame advance: I find having to use Ctrl-P and Ctrl-N for it really inconvenient. The throttle adjustment changes by too much with each press of + or -, and throttling doesn't give the right slowdown effect anyway. Also, not everyone has + and - keys on their keyboard... shouldn't they be set to - and = too, if not configurable? Oh, and why does Mario Land play with no sound at all in this version, yet its sound works fine in previous versions of VBA? This is really weird. edit: another request: If I choose "Start Playing Movie..." and play the movie that I'm currently recording, I want to watch what I've recorded so far -- right now it just starts playing an empty movie instead. (i.e. please flush the recording file to disk before starting to play a movie.)

I'm about to check it out(and update the UsingEmulatorTools page accordingly). I think we may need 2 new forums for VBA games and VBA emulator. Edit: Not updating the page until the next version. Looks good so far, unfortunately no runs can be done on it(especially not without the record from reset option), but I'm optimistic and looking forward to the next version. I think if rerecord from reset is available, along with making it so that using frame advance when paused does not unpause the game(I don't see the point otherwise), then a solid run can be made. Edit2: IRC working for anyone?

I will attempt to make a post that isn't completely off topic by posting some information about the emulator. Keys can be remapped via Tools->Customize... Blechy it should be up now. Almost all the ETG servers, including the DNS server were knocked offline earlier. Not sure what did it, but they seem to be up again.

You can record from a restart. All you have to do is Pause, Restart, Record, then Unpause.

I think you mean GBA games not VBA ;). Personally, I think a forum for GB/GBC games and one for GBA games separately should be better since there's a lot of games.

Gens' setup is currently my favorite of everything. You can map the save/load state buttons. You can set how slow you want things to run after you enter slow-down mode...which is ALSO mappable in the joypad setup screen. Might I recommend (if it's at all possible) to do something similar?
Completely agree. Gens has a very simple and straight-forward setup which is easily accessible when creating a movie.
