so, nobody noticed. after mario goes through the box he isn't pounding anymore, he's free falling. i just did a dive. weatherton: read please, i don't have the avi, so going by numbers doesn't mean anything to me, tell me which parts are those.
OK, I will go back and find a better way to describe those points to you. For now I am still progressing through the WIP and have some additional comments: In "Go to Town for Red Coins" I didn't understand your choices for when to ground pound and when to punch the blocks. I thought it would be optimal to do the opposite of what you did in some cases. When the block is on the ground, I think you should ground pound it and thus automatically collect the coin when you land. When it is in the air I think you should either punch it and then jump to it or you should jump on top and ground pound through it.

In HMC, why did you allow yourself to be stunned sometimes when you fell rather than dive to save yourself. For example, sometimes when you break the red coin blocks you dive before you hit the ground and avoid the stun delay, but other times you do not.... (see 6:09 in that avi for a time when you did not get stunned but 2:35 and 2:52 for times you did). Also, at 7:01... atleast you could have grabbed the edge or something, couldn't you? 7:19-7:26 seems unoptimized.
It seems to me that you understood my first comments here, though I still don't understand what you meant. Will your next version completely avoid stuns due to ground poinds while collecting red coins in HMC? My second comment here was in reference to the jump and swim you took on your way to collecting the 100 coin star and Swimming Beast in the Cavern. It seemed less direct than it could have been, especially the swim. Is there a reason you needed to vear to the right?

You can't recover after a ground pound. Plus that avi is not the current wip, he redid some parts i believe.
Well, that is obviously not true if you watch the avi at 6:09, you will see him recovering from a groundpound (this one appears to be without the aid of the enemy) btw, I loved how that 75th star was opened :) EDIT: at 11:05, that was a neat way to get to that pathway but you can just triple jump straight up to it.
11:05 occurs in Wet Dry World and it is in reference to the way you keep jumping from the beginning of the level to that gray stone path that's floating in the air. You use a wall jump to get up there but I think that is slower than just using a direct triple jump. EDIT: Finally, when collecting that last coin, would it be faster to punch the wall in order to move back down below?

I'm not going to remake HMC anymore. WDW i've remade already (it's not released). About your comments: About getting stunned from falling: i've already answered, just read back please. The swim before the 100 coin star was answered already too, 2 pages back, but i'll say it again: the slope isn't pointing to the island, so, i can't choose the direction. the longer i stay on the slope, the more mario will jump away from the island (but will jump longer due to more speed). i had to decide a good deal of distance / bad aim. Making a little curve before reaching the island makes no difference in time. I did that because i was gonna do the backflip, then i changed to 2 front jumps. Punching blocks is faster than pounding. I couldn't punch those 2 boxes that are on top of the wall becase the ground isn't flat, i can't run and punch, i need to jump, so i went ahead and just pounded. Just the second box i break was a mistake, but it's fixed on the new version. About the last coin, i managed to do the backflip and then dive. edit: oh, and about the triple jump to get to the ramp in WDW, i didn't know that was possible, but don't worry, i've used a higher water level like filimonas suggested. it was indeed faster.

I've remade last 5 stars in WDW and i've tested out the first 5 in Tiny Huge Island. Wouter Jansen is sending me some coins vids of THI right now. There are a lot of coins on that course, what with the switching between island sizes, it's hard to pick on a route.

Just watching this new one now.... The WDW is a lot nicer. BTW, in THI, if you slide down the "mountain" in Tiny Island, you can build enough speed to hit the island with the Secrets Star without using the walkway. EDIT: Oh, you already did it. And another option is to BLJ in the wedge on the beach to hit the island with the star. One more thing... You can triple jump at the beginning to wall kick off of that little piece of ground above you to easily get the first secret..

Grabbing MIPS, could you change the camera angle so you don't have to turn around after grabbing the star? Same for the 100 coin stars.

You might have alreayd corrected this, but your Rematch with Koopa the quick has been beaten on a console. The trick is to longjump onto the Shy Guy hovering over the beach and land near the goal. See a video of it here. EDIT: This wouldn't speed up the star, since you have to wait for koopa, but it'd be nice to set a record for the fastest time displayed, wouldn't it? EDIT2: Someone replied before I got a chance to edit...

Speedwise, it shouldn't really matter. It take KTQ a predetermined amount of time to get to the flagpole. Aesthetics is another matter. ;)

What would be more efficient? Getting the 100-coin star with the traditional red coins, or...getting them on the Koopa race? The latter wold be really cool to watch.

If you lag behind KTQ (at least in Bob-omb Battlefield) he will run slower. I'm not sure what happens in Tiny Huge Land. I dunno if this is an issue, but it's worth noting.

I just watched the 14 minute AVI of WetDryWorld and HazyMazeCave, I am very impressed by it and I want to watch your progress up to this point in AVI, because I have Mupen but I don't know if I have the right emulator/ROM, or even how to play movie files in it.

When heading to the wiggler fight, on your second trip up the mountain, you can get the chuck-ya to push you through that wall and you can swim and jump into the load point. I'm fairly certain this is faster, and now that I think about it, it might work without draining the water, which would make it most certainly faster. The only way I can get the chuck-ya to push me through is to side jump and slide down the the face of that wall and land between it and the wall. There's probably a faster way though.

Oh, and if you ground-stomp on the side of the mountain, the water will drain. That'll save lotsa time.

Unless you can get into the loading zone from inside without draining the water. If somebody ends up testing this, or if you get to it when you go through the run, FODA, make sure to post here about it, because i'm pretty curious myself.

The AVI series continues with the newest installment, available via bittorrent because rapidshare took the liberty of NOT giving me my links after uploading. If you don't have start to 64 stars, see page 62.

In WDW when you get the coins from the four boxes after you have 36 coins (for the 100 coin star) I believe it is faster to ground pound one block while you punch the abutting block. This can be done fast enough to cause the game to emit only one sound. The jumps before you kill Chuckya could be avoided (and the ascent made quicker) by a triple jump to wall kick off of the wall next to the box you broke for coins. I still think triple jumping directly to that floating stone walkway is much faster when the water is completely down. EDIT (Adding more as I watch) After getting the invisible cap in the downtown, wouldn't it be faster to long jump in front of that steeple thing rather than jump over it? You could then also long jump to that stone pyramid thing that the star is on... If you use the Shyguy method for the KTQ Rematch, I bet you'd cause him to run faster... Neat as that trick is to get over the wall at the beginning of the level when you're big, you can actually just triple jump over. This would especially help in 5 Itty Bitty Secrets, which, btw, I wonder if you could avoid having to grab that edge by diving a bit before you reach the island, it looks like you could. On your 100 coind star in THI, the delay after getting the 6th star before the long jump seemed longer than necessary by a few frames. Keep up the great work though, it's looking awesome!

I know the anwser but i need the details... so are you talking about starting spot water-full can you get into the loading point? or water drained into the loading point? or from the town to the dry pipe then wall jump out? or from wet wet town to the loading point to get out?

He means entering in wiggler's nest without punding the top of the mountain to drain the water. I don't think it should be possible because the portal to enter wiggler's nest is precisely the size of the hole (too little).
