You know, in the video, he activates the text of a locked door(maybe not significant?), then runs at the door at a shallow angle and punches, and as he slides from momentum, gets himself stuck in the door and gets out on the other side. Now, This is still useless for key skipping, since he probably stuck a warp point in the BRoD. However, is this possible with single doors elsewhere? If so, would entering WF, CCM, or PSS this way be faster than a lobby BLJ?
I'm almost positive the door was modified to allow getting partially inside it somehow (like MIPS without the MIPS). Attempts at recreating the trick don't seem to work in the same way, and the game was so heavily modified I wouldn't doubt he messed with that. The doors appeared to be different in more ways than the texture used on them.
Somehow I doubt that's...possible.
Anyway, 120 Star update:
There will be a lack of updates. I've elected to not put up any WIPs, because I think the methods, routes, and most importantly, time saved would seem better in one full run. With WIPs, you've seen one, and then when the run is submitted, you fast forward right to the end to watch the final bit you haven't seen...I think that in the end, the run will be much better if people have no idea what's coming from the very beginning (and that will be the case; the JRB WIP from before is basically useless, and even getting to the castle is different).
Therefore, I'll just put up the amount of stars done (possibly in the form of screenshots) once in a while, so those interested can know where the progress is at (if lots of people object to this, I'll skip it).
I know, but it looks like he modified the collision map of the door object so that he can walk further than normal through it. normally there's no way to get as deep inside the door as he did... even with hyperspeed there's a frame where you simply move through the whole thing rather than having the possibility to get frozen inside it. that just seems to work on the wood doors :\
The only reason I'd ever object to that would be that people who watch your WIP can give you ideas or suggestions of improvements before you've made another half hour of movie. You're one of the people skilled enough at optimizing this game that it doesn't really matter. Maybe a single early WIP after about 5 stars and then, when oyu're 2/3 in, a video of one or two impressive stars from anywhere in the video, on youtube, then nothing else till the full run is done, so we've only seen, for example, 7 stars but tehy weren't all in the first course.
First "update":
Again, if people don't like this idea, I won't do it anymore. It just seems better than nothing and cooler than just saying "x stars, in level Y."

You made the right choice; don't show WIPs publicly, only to those that can spot mistakes by having TASed SM64. If you want, you can avoid posting each time you get somewhere new, and simply in your forum profile keep updated with what course/star you're on. Anyone that looks in the mario page will see your posts and see what level you're at. It's always worked for me.
Well, I'm hoping for at least a minute; when the Lobby is finished, it'll paint a much clearer picture of what to expect. I don't want to make too big an estimate, and be disappointed later on...better to underestimate than the other way around.
Yeah...when you posted the JRB WIP, you said you were 30 seconds ahead. Now you've started over from scratch and presumably will be even further ahead. I'd be amazed if you couldn't get another 30 seconds ahead in the remaining 14 levels in the game.
Well it's not like I was saying that 30 seconds will be saved on all the remaining levels, too. To save 30 more seconds, all they have to do is save about a quarter of a second on average for each of the remaining stars. I think this is entirely feasible.
I've bolded the crucial statement to show what people might have overlooked, I have and idea myself as to what might be the eventual time but I don't want to be disappointed later on...
Wouldn't it just be easier to upload at the end of each course?
I actually really like the single frame teaser screenshot. He could do that once for every level and still keep suspense at maximum. WIPs destroy suspense though...
I like the idea as well, yet I think that the latest screenshot posted looks a little too ordinary for people to really be thrilled to see the full run. :o
I like the idea of not providing the WIP movie as well. It will not spoil the fun when the final version comes out.
Like ShinyDoofy, I don't think showing a screenshot means much -- not that I object to the idea.
To me, showing a screenshot like this is just the same as (just for example) saying "currently the TAS is up to JRB, and 15 stars collected". I am ok with either format -- just text and/or a picture.
I will wait patiently until the entire TAS/movie is done.
Considering how this is a very long going project it might be nice to not only post screenshots but also a video of some random single star a little now and then, like a teaser but alot more fun then a screenshot yet nowhere near as revealing as a WIP?
This is just what I've been talking about: a teasing teaser, not just some "regular" screenshot probably anyone could have accomplished. Don't get me wrong; this doesn't mean your skills are to be downsized or anything, it's just a suggestion.
Imho it's ought to show people how awesome this run might/will get, although it should not be there to take away all the anticipation.
In the end, it's your decision what to post and what not to.
