You forgot to do TotWC? It has to be done after PSS, right? what if it doesn't fit? O_o I'll watch in a sec
TotWC needs 10 stars to get into, and BoB needs the Wing Cap.

Ok, I'm still not sure I understand why you bother collecting the 3rd star in JRB. the 100-coin star (second) should be enough to save the coin amount, and then you can exit course to the lobby center. I also am not sure why you got the 100-coin star in whomp's fortress, or the 100-coin star in CCM; they only slow you down. And the B1 8-red-coin star doesn't make much sense to me to collect either.
See above.
After B1, there's PSS2, TotRC, and BoB and that's it for the lobby, right?
We don't need PSS2; we've already been in there to collect all the coins, and we don't need the other star. TotWC is next, and then BoB, which will complete the Lobby.

Great job so far! BTW I loved PSS! Can't you collect the star with the fixed camera or is it interrupted from the star sequence?

It's interrupted, unfortunately.

The run looks great. Still PSS in a standstill camera is not really entertaining IMO

I just want to say that I liked that that camera being used once like that (without seeing mario). I wanted to do it on the 120 star run on one of the levels but the wireframe renderer doesn't help on open sky levels..

The non-TAS record for all coins in the PSS is 20'4 and you managed to get 20'8 though. But as I said I liked the fixed camera, since we all know how the slide looks like! ;) CCM doesn't seem optimized. I guess you can save many frames overall.

What's wrong with you people? How can you like watching a FLOOR for 20 seconds?

Because it is something you can only see in a TAS!

So yeah, it's the only time of my life I'll be able to watch someone do PSS while watching the floor. Sorry, but that doesn't make it any more fun. Even though it only can be done in a TAS, doesn't mean it's cool. Anyway ... I guess that's the kind of thing that gets mixed reactions (50-50), much like the (J) vs (U) and speed vs entertainment debates. Just thought I'd let you know that I think it's boring as hell and totally not entertaining.

it's kind of late now, but I don't remember this being brought up before: could the c-up glitch have been used at the beginning of pss?

Blech. If I wanted to watch the floor for 20 seconds, I can just turn to the right on my chair 90 degrees, tilt my head down 45 degrees, and stare. *does so* Ahh, sweet burgandy carpet, how I've missed you. (It would be better if you used that idea somewhere nice and open, so Mario can be seen at almost all times.)

you need to keep in mind that you were playing the game yourself, and trying to get the star with the camera set like that yourself. watching doesn't amuse that much on it's own, but the thought of how crazy it will be to perform it yourself makes it cool. and if that isn't the reason why you watch tas, then I don't know what is, because they hardly add anything different than coolness factors that are crazy to perform yourself.

Doesn't it only work on upward slopes?

The C^ glitch kind of makes you go completely straight, and since the coins turn pretty quickly, it wouldn't have saved much time; it might've even raised the finishing time.

Whoa PSS was done really hard core, impressive.

C^ glitch works on PSS but it's slower. It doesn't reach super-speed, and loses about half a second when you need to turn around.

There's a minor glitch, might be useable somewhere. If you hanging on to a pole as you collect a star, you zip downwards very fast when you collect the star. Might be useful for 100 coin stars, IDK...

Just for shits and giggles, and to aid our pointless quest of getting into the basement early (perhaps to choose some new stars?) I have found a new place to BLJ outside of the castle. I thought this was well known, but this was news to FODA. I've known about this since... A year ago.

The water level looks lowered there I don't think a blj is possible.

Yeah, that BLJ is only possible after emptying the moat. And even then, I don't see how it's useful considering you need to go through the opening door animation in order to load the castle interior.

This is well known. I did some testing a while back. You can BLJ there but because of the hill just behind you can't get very close to the castle. Even then you can't store much speed in such a small BLJ area so even if I went around the hill I could never get very far. I also found a similar BLJ spot on a rock in BoB which also turned out to be a dead end towards anything :)

That's been known for quite a while....it doesn't do much, and it's not possible to get great speeds on it. Much better speeds are possible on top of the castle, though it would be impossible to get into the basement from there.

The little dark green hill with the red coin on it?

Yes that one. I tried using it to get up to the winding path to the summit which was very close to being possible but I could never quite get it. It's similar to the one outside the castle because it's far too small to build up any useful speed on.
