Whew! Finally done with this.
The Lost Vikings is about 3 Vikings, each with their own unique features, are abducted and have to make their way out traveling through different worlds and eventually encountering their abductor.

Each character has two major attributes:
Baloeg - Uses a sword and bow+arrow
Olaf - Uses a shield as protection and a glider
Erik - Jumps and uses his helmet to bash walls and enemies

The goal is to get all three vikings to the exit to continue to the next level. There are 42 levels in all. For some reason the SNES version only has 37.
Emulator used: Gens_Movie_Test9a_exe

-As fast as possible
-Uses no passwords
-Abuses programming errors in the game
-Takes damage to save time
-One player controls two characters simultaneously
-Genre: Platform
-Genre: Puzzle

A long game done quick.
I did the game with two players, and player 2 has to be on the same screen as player 1 or else player 2 won't move.
I abused a well-known glitch where I use a key in order to avoid being hurt from falling. I abuse some more here and there.
If you find some of the levels repetetive, I don't blame you. This game wasn't exactly built for speed, but I tried to make each level as interesting, unique, and efficient as possible.
I had to hesitate or slow down sometimes in order to control other characters, enemies or objects. Also, a few times I switch characters in order to control actions that, without doing so, would cause major damage or death.
I tried to get hit only in places where it would save the most time. Most of the time, getting hit will not save time.
Some enemies you can pass right by, some will hurt you by attack, and some are impassable so the enemies that are killed or attacked are done so for a reason. I tried to avoid as many enemies as possible.
Recorded at 6%. Anything faster would not have worked out too well.
Oh, and the Candy World music kicks ass. :)
Enjoy!

I voted yes; it's very well done. The issue with 'wobbling' is trivial imho, since it doesn't affect the speed at which the movie is completed and could be kept or removed without affecting the movie noticably. However, I used to play this game with both my brothers; as I recall the genesis version allowed control of all three characters simultaneously (still limited by being on the screen with the primary character). I noticed there were a number of sections in the movie that necessitated that the third character 'catch up', and recording a 3-player movie would cut down on the time noticably. Is this even possible to do? Can a .gmv file be created that has inputs from a multitap instead of just 2 players? If so, I think that it would definately speed up the movie and make it more entertaining to watch.

Thank you for watching. Yes, I've heard about being able to control 3 players and would love to make a run controlling all three. However I haven't found a rom that has a three-player option and Gens only can support two players. If someone could create a patch that allows Gens to configure a third player, I would be glad to create a run like that.

My version of Gens supports upto 8 controllers, I think. I go into Options->Joypad, and toggle the "Controller connected:" field to be teamplayer instead of pad. It then behaves like a multitap. Although if your saying that this option does not work, that might be the case. As I have not acually tested this..

Wow, I had no idea that this was possible! Thanks for pointing this out to me. EDIT: Okay, after trying this out, I can say this will never work as a time attack. Both characters have to be on the screen as player one or they won't move. And you can't switch characters, which makes a three-player run impossible. I'm not even sure why they included this in the game unless they didn't expect anyone to actually use it to beat the game. No, looks like the two player option is still the fastest way. EDIT2: I've found a way to switch characters, but cannot record movies unfortunately. See later posts.

You sure there isn't a command to give control of the screen to another player? I know in a SNES 2 player game, pressling L&R switched who the screen followed, but I dont know about Genesis.

Positive. I tried every button and none of them switch. Genesis doesn't have L and R, but Lost Vikings was released for SNES also...

Maybe you should go for a SNES run then? That would be interesting (and for those with short atention spans, the missing levels will make the movie much shorter).

I don't think so. I would if it worked for Genesis, but I just can't stand the way it looks on SNES. Too pixelated :P Plus I like the fact it has more levels.

Hmm, that seems to be it. After mashing the keyboard a few times, I've figured out that you can indeed switch players. Well, in that case... EDIT: Seem to be having trouble recording movies with three players. I'm moving this issue to the Gens forum.

I'm kind of dissapointed I never looked into this to begin with :( But, I'm still not sure it can be done (See previous post) EDIT: Not possible in Gens or SNES (the rom didn't include a third player option) I won't be creating a run for a three-player time attack until Gens can support three players (not subdivisions of ports, but actual ports because subdivisions do not show up in movie files, unfortunately). This is because I don't like how it looks in SNES and it's better with 42 levels rather than 37 IMO.

that's why he made the comment congratulating the publishing of the movie, but i dont think that word exists, it should be something like this: "about time this was accepted for publishing, watched this again and still loved it"

Well, I wouldn't go so far to say that. There are a couple of spots I could have done differently to avoid waiting. But they will definitely be fixed when I do a three-player version ;) Thanks for the positive comments everyone. And thank you Phil for publishing it.

A THREE-PLAYER version?? Wow. That would rock so much.
