There's not much improvements compared to our precedent.
Anyway here's those changes:
  • Pipe in 1-1 looks better while collecting the same amount of coins.
  • Done stage 4-2 1 timeunit faster which is 356.
  • Do not collect coins over holes like Bisqwit had suggested in level 8-1.
  • Jump backwards towards the hovering pipe in 8-4.
  • Stopped the movie a little later so people can press left and Mario still touch the axe.
We sincerely thank Mana for showing us some strategies. It helps us in this version. Also, thanks to Michael Fried, his video inspires me to collect some more points where Mana failed to achieve.

Bisqwit: AVI ready.

I must say I like this new version better than the "old" one. However, I still have a problem with the "stoping movie event". Therefor I'll say: "This movie is great, just splendid. But I will not vote because I can't make up my mind due too the stop." Keep up the good work, Phil!

Phil, why didn't you do the backwards jump at the beginning of 8-2?

Since the boost doesn't help me to reach 344, I don't see any reason to use it. More than that, I must slow down Mario by some frames to reach 342.
Same with 8-1?

IMO, I may be irrespectful and sorry but I think this rule is for loser that don't know how to stop their movie as fast as possible.

Maybe not everyone. There's some guys that agree with my opinion also. Edit: I'm sorry if I offended some people by saying this. It looks like "I'm not saying I'm the only one who's right. Everyone who shares my opinion are too." That's not what I thought first. Maybe yes. I really hate this rule. :P

I don't know about "losers," but I basically agree. It goes something like this: Player 1: I beat this game in 13 minutes! Player 2: Wait, you can shave off 0:30 by stopping it here! Player 1: Really? Well, lemme change it real quick...UPDATE 12:30 minutes! Frankly, I don't see what the issue is. The movie's faster, the fcm is faster, where it stops just over the axe can't possibly be 1 second faster, 13 people so far have voted yes, the only no vote isn't speaking up...what's the problem?

Somehow it seems to always be a NO vote whitout someone taking the resposabilaty for it, no matter the movie.

I have one question regarding the movie and the trajectory of Mario's jumps, but bear with me - this may take a second. Before the warp zone in 4-2, after collecting the last set of coins, you take a baby jump landing you close to the bottom of the steps (the 2nd I think, and you take 3 jumps) - you can jump from there and land much closer to the top (the 4th step) and only jump once to climb the steps. I assume this is because a huge jump would actually slow you down somehow. Yet, at the end of every stage, you take huge leaps to get to the 5000 point mark on the flag. Can a tiny jump landing you at the bottom of the pole each time actually take off frames or does this have something to do with falling slowly? If so, why the huge drop before the warp zone at 4-2? Just nit-picking, I know, but I'm curious.

Jumps don't slow you down. It doesn't matter how many jumps it takes you to climb the steps because your velocity to the right will be the same.

I think pulling down the flag from the pole takes the same time no matter how high on the pole you jump, so it shouldn't make a difference.

I've decided to process this submission regardless of the open question (re: when to end the movie). Consider this not as the conclusion to the question.

At the end of 8-2, why didn't you hat-stomp the turtle that was jumping down the stairs?

Anyway, it's like ~5 frames we're talking about. Not very much.

I knew someone will ask this question. Evidently, I could but will make the jump so high that it looks less interesting. Maybe I am wrong.

But enough to make it less than 5 minutes. 17995 frames -> 4:59.92 18000 frames -> 5:00.00 I can see why you drive this opinion.

Ah, never thought of that, I should stop my movie at 18000 frames. It will be clean :)

I managed to improve the completion time of 1-2 by 3 frames by using more accuracy at the pipe trick and an alternate technique after that, but unfortunately it has no effect whatsoever to the total completion time. 4-1 starts at the exactly same frame. Evil censorship rule :( https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/philgenisto-smb1-1-2-end-bisqwit.zip
