I think you need the Ice Beam to freeze an enemy so you can skip across with only one boss defeated.

Oh yeah, that's right, you'd have to do one or the other. You'd either need to lure an enemy in and ice it, or make judicious use of bomb jumping and regaining control of Samus by standing back up in midair. Probably best to beat both Ridley and Kraid, that way you're also ensured to have enough missiles to beat all the Zeebetites and the MB. Still, with no ice beam, I expect Tourian to be quite impressive when you're finished. I also expect it to be a bit slower since you can't freeze the Rinkas and stand on them.

But beating both bosses would be alot slower than fetching either bombs or ice weapon.

Well, of course, but in this case he's going for impressive rather than fast. It might be somewhat slower, but I think it will still be entertaining. Besides, he's going for Maru Mari only. There's no way, I don't believe, to get through the statue room this way without beating both bosses and extending the bridge.

Would be kewl with two movies of this right? One that beats both bosses and one movie that only kills one of them. :D

Again, the point of the movie is that only one item is collected. If only one boss is defeated, more items will have to be collected, defeating the goal. After this movie, minimalist, as-fast-as-possible, and 100% runs all will have been done, which is pretty much the only completion movies that should ever be completed for a game. I haven't played the game in forever, and the movies only use missles and/or bombs. Can regular bullets affect bosses? If not, you may have to make an exception and get bombs.

I think you can kill them with the regular weapon. But it takes forever. Not 100% sure on this though. But I recall something about it.

Well, I'm glad you guys are digging this idea. A few things - first of all, you can't get to Tourian without defeating both the bosses or using both bombs and the ice beam. When you lure the creature into the bridge room, you can either freeze him right next to the platform goal so you can roll off of him onto the platform, but you can't jump on top of him without bombs to boost you up a bit, or you freeze him lower so you can jump off of him, but then you'd need bombs to get yourself up to the platform (you need to be in the ball to squeeze through, and the only way to bump yourself up is with bombs). I need to beat both bosses for this reason, and, as has been pointed out, I'd need to for the missiles - remember, I'd need the ice beam to defeat metroids and no other enemy in Tourian gives up items. What I take into Tourian is all I'll have. Second, yes the bosses can be defeated with the starting gun, but man it takes a butt-ton of time. I'm looking to optimize this in any way I can. Unfortunately, because I need missiles to get to Kraid and the only way to get missiles is from a boss, I have to go to Ridley first. So the run looks like this - Start, Maru Mari, Defeat Ridley, Defeat Kraid, Defeat Mother Brain. One question though: UP+A? It would save bunches of time, but I'd need to do it several times in a row. For example, get to and defeat Ridley, UP+A, go up the elevator, UP+A, go up the elevator, UP+A, go to Kraid. Whatcha think?

But I thought you could take damage from that enemy in the bridge room to Tourian? Didn't they do something like that in the other videos? I would say, avoid the Up+A. I don't think it would look stylish enough. But it would sure save alot of time.

Well, since the other videos don't use Up+A, maybe this video should use Up+A--to mix it up a little, as well as to speed up what looks to be a long trek.

Well.. In general I don't like movies that includes dying or resetting. But hey! I'm not the one who makes this movie. Do what ever you feel like. I'd probably enjoy the watch as well.

I had no problem watching the zelda runthrough which used the same trick. Actually I kinda liked that it was used, as it saved me from watching some really long winded walks back :P

I think I'm gonna go UP+A because of the amount of time I spend on the bosses. In these first two trial runs I've done, I haven't gotten through Tourian. Without the screw attack or the Varia, I'm looking at spending a lot of time in Mother Brain's Lair - I basically can't get hit by anything. There doesn't seem to be a way to avoid the Rinka that thwacks you after the first missile door and that cuts down the energy supply considerably. Again, you get popped when you enter Mother Brain's Lair with that gooey slime missile, so that leaves one hit - a flawless run through the lair with no ice, limited missiles, and a bunch of lag is tiresome. I'm on it, though.

Oh goodie, oh fun. So do you have to knock the Metroids back with your regular beam a lot?

There's mostly a lot of luring away and jumping around. The move to the last door takes some missiles.

Sure, but you have to do multiple versions to iron out the mistakes, right?

I wish - I've just been playing around with different stages of the game and giving myself certain rules during those stages to see if it's possible. For example, only use 99 life and 75 missiles on Kraid. In Tourian, only 99 life, no ice, no varia or screw attack, and 150 missiles. It can be done. Not the easiest thing in the world, though. Getting to and beating Ridley is easy enough, but once I get near Kraid, it toughens up a bit and getting through the Metroids is next to impossible - they move pretty fast. I'm almost pleased with my recorded run so far up to Tourian - beyond that, it's still wide open.

So... does Ridley have red door in front of him? I can't remember. I know Kraid does, so you'd only be able to fight Kraid if you pick up missiles. Unless you do a door glitch or something.

Don't think Ridley have a red door infront of him. Only a purple behind him.

Ziplock has stated that, but just to confirm I watched red scarlet's run, and there is no red door before ridley.

Tripple checked that as well as I wasn't sure right after posting. So now we are sure right? :)

Hmm - I'm having a problem with UP+A. It works when I'm recording, but then doesn't during the replay. Anyone ever have this or a similar problem with famtasia? I don't want to just jump in the lava.

You have to enable recording of the second controller. But using Up+A or dying in Metroid is frowned upon anyway (by me.)
