Does every hit in Ridley's hideout take away 24 units? I was thinking you might want to take another hit somewhere after the multiviolas before Ridley. Also, stuning the crawler above the purple bar in my jpeg might help.

Stuning the second to last purple flyer in Ridley's might help as well ;) In the long multiviola tunnel, near the start, a 2 or 3 group cluster come from the left. If you keep moving left, into the multiviola before the cluster, you can get them to apear sooner; then I think you have to move back a bit to avoid getting hit by the muliviola before the cluster. This might work on other parts but I think this is the only one where they are close enough together (the cluster and the one before it).

Every enemy deals the same damage in each area, as far as I know. I may be wrong on this, I haven't really checked. That crawler was out of range.

I tried stunning everything I could. The multiviola thing wound up very slightly slower due to some good luck by me in causing one of the ones in the tunnel to move in the other direction, causing me not to have to slow/stop. When I tried your way it didn't move backwards. :( I just finished Ridley, and I am now 392 frames ahead of v1. I was 111 frames ahead of my last update upon entering the multiviola room. Avoiding the second hit seems like the way to go. 111 frames? that's a lot more than I would have thought. So I'm guessing going into ball form before the door glitch to lower the screen a little didn't help?

The screen just scrolled back when I unmorphed.

It doesn't scroll up untill I jump for me, but it wouldn't matter cause your going to jump anyway.

How's things coming? I found a cool trick that might be usefull for a 100% run: In the room to the right of Kraid's room get the tube bug that comes out of the lava to follow you when you jump up the secret tunnel then shoot up and freeze it halfway inside the tunnel on your way down. If you do two two-phase bomb jumps, one up to the frozen bug and one off of it you can get up with normal jump, you might only need one of them to be two-phase. With high jump you might not need any bombs.

So I’m going to do a speedrun of this game soon and I was wondering a few things you guys might have some knowledge about. 1. Is there any way to make Kraid consistently not move forward a lot when you enter his room? It seems to me he pretty much set to do this at some point in the game and I’m not sure if that’s very controllable at all. Changing what I do right before Kraid seems to make no difference, if he’s set to move forward he will do so always even if you exit and reenter. 2. Are there anyways to make enemies drop missiles at a higher percentage, or enemies which are more likely to drop missiles. Also sometimes I encounter a tube bug that will drop a missile once or twice, then never drop again until I exit the room and reenter, is there anyway to avoid this? 3. Lastly, I was wondering about the zoomers in the first the long vertical passage. I want to make them such that they don’t get in your way while climbing it. I’ve developed a consistent way to do this for first time climbing the passage, but have yet to do so for the second time after killing Kraid. What is it that effects how these zoomers spawn. I’m guessing it’s the state of the enemies right before the passage, but what exactly are all the parameters?

Not sure if this is well known or very useful but thought I'd share this alternate version of the infamous JUSTIN BAILEY code. type in JUSTIN BAILEY ------- (press start) just 6 dashes and press start. don't put spaces after the dashes or press backspace at all or this will not work. you should start off in kraid's stage with four energy takes, missles, no suit, and A FREEZING WAVE BEAM. i found this code by accident back when i was a kid but never did anything about it. hope someone will enjoy this as much as i did.

Erm...what do you mean, on the original NES? Last I checked, it even worked in the original Metroid that comes with MZM...

oh? It didn't work for me in Metroid Prime with MZM plugged in controller, maybe I typed in password incorrectly.

You might've inserted the 'space' character after NARPASSWORD. Since Metroid Prime saves your previous password, this is more than likely. The space characters that are there when the password screen is first loaded have the same value as the number 0. So, NARPASSWORD00000 and then any other character is enough to get it working.

So who is Narpa, and is there something special about his sword?

I've read that "North American Release" is what NAR stands for, followed by Password. It's an exception to the password generation / checksum system.

I read that it also could be the name of a coder. Or rather, he's name was Narsomething. It's cool though.

From Wikipedia:
However, at least one code that was recently uncovered is known that is built-in to the game and will not check with password generators - namely, NARPAS SWORD0 000000 000000. This code gives Samus infinite health and missiles, making the task of clearing the game much easier; since one code is defined in the game as such, it is possible (though not probable) that more exist that are not known about to this day. There were small debates on what the password stood for. Some thought it referred to a "Narpas" sword. Others feel the password is properly read as "NAR PASSWORD", with "NAR" as an abbreviation for the name of the person who handled the conversion from the FDS and designed the password system, Tohru Narihiro, or, as an acronym of "North American Release". Another speculation is that it speaks of "Narpas's Word", believing the designers wished to steer you wrong with a misplaced space.

Where's Zoizite been? I found a new wall glitch that saves tons for a 100% run.

I've figured out a lot of new stuff about the wall glitch how it works more precisely, where and how it can be used. There's a few more places where it can be used to save time, including a way to get to kraid's room with only the maru muri. I also found some new small tricks that can save a fair ammount of time as well.
