This game is about a magical girl who walk right jump right like a demented pogo freak to justice.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk-1.4.1
  • Fastest Time
  • Some enemy manipulation
  • Somewhat entertaining

Comments

Well, I decided to try TASing GB games with BizHawk, and since the ones I wanted to TAS aren't fully supported, I chose a relatively obscure Sailor Moon game to TAS!
........
Don't judge me base on this, k?

Glitches and Tricks

Faster way to traverse

Jumping gives you like a 4 pixel boost everytime you do so. And sometimes, especially at the first 2 stages, adding a frame of delay before the 3rd jump or so boost you by 1 pixel. Why? I don't know.

Flying

A simple glitch that allows you to hover indefinitely simply by crouching near the edge of a moving platform. Completely useless and the only reason I used it was to ease off the boredom during the waiting times.

Other comments

There's two modes in this game; a story mode where you walk around and do shit before you get to jump right to win, and a "platform-only" mode which focuses only on the platformer stages without any of the drawn out walking. Now why the heck didn't I chose the story mode? Well, it's not because it's way longer, no. It's because I can't read japanese and got stuck in the 2nd stage for 2 freaking hours walking back and forth talking to everyone I can yet still don't know what to do. So...on with the TAS!

Finally! I was afraid I'd go my whole life without seeing Sailor Moon spit on evil Pac-Men riding pogo sticks.

"Mako"? As for the TAS, we know Usagi is a rabbit, but the game still appears to be slow. I like how the TAS makes all the bosses look stupid (who are they anyway?) while they slowly die to Usagi's bodily emissions. In my opinion, Vault is appropriate for this one.

When you jump and shoot, it looks like it's coming out of her crotch. Yes vote.

Yea, this game doesn't have a run option. The other characters seem to be exactly the same except for their appearance and the look's of their projectiles. And I have no idea who the bosses are since I don't watch the shows/manga/whatever Sailor Moon was in.

I personally know way too much about the series, so the boss order is: English / Japanese Catzy / Kooan Rubeus (same in both) Emerald / Esmeraulde Sapphire / Sapphir Prince Diamond / Prince Demand Other than Kooan, the Japanese names are supposed to be based off the French saying of their gemstone. The creator of Sailormoon studied geology. Sailor Moon's attack is probably Moon Tiara Action, which is supposed to be the tiara turning into a frisbee (pffft, crotch beam). As for the run, I was entertained because it was Sailormoon, but I'm biased. =P I'd place it in the Vault.

Thanks! Btw, I've just realized this game is so obscure, that it was only mentioned in 1 line in the "List of Sailor Moon games" article on wikipedia.
In addition, two side-scrolling adventure games were produced for the Game Boy (Sailormoon and Sailormoon R), and a side-scrolling game was also produced for the Game Gear (Sailormoon S).

It appears to the naked eye that the final boss has some strange/different timing on hit invulnerability. Was this optimized? If so, I'd vote yes.

That also applies to the other bosses like the first. I just checked to see if they could be damaged earlier, and it doesn't appear so. The only part where I can't confirm is the attack on the last boss at frame 21920, since if I jumped earlier, I would get killed by the....electrode?

"...She is the one named..." Very interesting run to watch. We need more random games... (not really) Q: Didn't they make a sequel to this? YESH VOTE "...Sailor Moon-"

game is really boring to watch, but the run looks optimized to my untrained eye, so my vote is to vault this one
Oh, play it cool. Play it cool. Here come the space cops.

Are encodes any close to being done? I almost picked this publication already.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

You can handle them, feos. I wanted to get them done, but too many things are getting in my way (I'll be leaving to go somewhere soon and I won't be able to encode). Sorry Ilari!

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/44410363131303135 So spent an afternoon figuring out how the story mode is like. Turns out its like 5x longer due to tons of dialogue. I'm not sure if the route is optimal (ie. talks to bare minimum amount of ppl) but I tried. Edit: So something I forgot to write/missed on the submission: 1. Speed is 2 bytes, and in C028 2. X/Y is actually 3 bytes, so to meaningfully display it use lua read_u24_le() 3. Jumping has a max speed of 288. Walking is 256. This is also the reason why the run jumps a lot. 4. Waiting 1 frame after landing to jump accelerates you faster than immediately hopping again. 5. Pressing B to fire may or may not lose frames, depending on the scenario. 6. For story mode only, pausing before an NPC spawns affects its direction later. Edit: Turns out RNG does have an affect in battles. For instance, the first boss does somersaults, which can either be a "long" one that goes across the entire room, or a shorter one that doesn't. The shorter one is like 40 frames faster, so delaying hits to make sure the shortest one is always used can improve the run.
