THE GLITCH USED IN THIS RUN REQUIRES A SAVEFILE WITH AN ALREADY-COMPLETE FILE ON ONE OF THE OTHER TWO FILES - DOWNLOAD THE SAVESTATE FOR THE RUN (place in same location as m64) AS WELL AS THIS COMPLETE SAVEFILE (place in mupen64 folder's "save" folder) OR THE RUN CAN'T BE PLAYED BACK ON MUPEN. FILES CAN BE GOTTEN HERE: https://files.tasvideos.org/common/SubmissionFiles/3831S/dkr-requiredfiles.zip

Emulator Information

Emulator: Mupen64 0.5
Plugins: Jabo 1.6 (video), TAS Input Plugin (input), Jabo 1.6 (audio), RSP (RSP)
For input, make sure that controller 2 is set to "active".

Run Information

This run beats Diddy Kong Racing by abusing a "wrong warp" glitch. It finishes the game in 2-player mode, after creating the file which will be finished in 1-player mode.
The desired effect is only possible on the 1.1 release of the USA version of the game. 1.0 and the Japanese version both crash when trying to do this.
The glitch happens because the game draws certain things from the tracks mode section of the game, such as the fact that Future Fun Land is open (and this is the case because a file on the cart has already been to FFL once), and using the wrong warp, transfers them over to the fresh file that's created at the start of the run. It's done by creating the new file, exiting it, starting up 2P mode, and going to Hot Top Volcano, where an out-of-bounds glitch can be used to reach a small loading zone by the finishing line which warps the player to the main arena, which normally is never accessible in 2P mode.
The out-of-bounds glitch is done by doing a barrel roll with a speed boost at certain parts of the lava. Once OoB, it's just a matter of locating the small loading zone.
At this point in the run, it's actually faster to play as player 2 to get to Future Fun Land, because he spawns closer to it than player 1 does. Inside the FFL lobby, player 1 is in a better spot. Since you're never meant to have a plane in here, the top of the door wasn't programmed in, meaning we can simply fly over it. The reason I grind very slightly against the right side of the door is because the loading zone for the race can be touched quicker from there.
The race itself has a long cutscene at the start because the game is in 2P mode, which looks like a softlock but isn't. Once the race starts, another out-of-bounds glitch is used to beat the level really quickly, at which point the game is over and the credits roll.
Drumstick is chosen over T.T. because he's faster than T.T. in the plane.

Additional Notes

This run starts from a savefile. It's the only way to do this kind of run, which could be considered "newgame+" or "glitched" or a combination of both. As it requires a completed file to do, it's also acceptable to have Drumstick and T.T. unlocked, which is handy because they're the fastest racers in the game. This is an acceptable category in the DKR speedrunning community due to the fact that the unlocked characters are part of the cart's saves, and not the individual files' saves.
With many thanks to Toufool31, Fasch, Stacy, 0xwas, and malkieriking for critiquing my WIPs and helping to break this game to the point it's at today.

Nahoc: Will judge...
Nahoc: Delaying until author or someone else provides a verification movie.
Nahoc: This is a great TAS, well-planned and optimized. Sadly, its situation ressembles the Stafy run. This game doesn't really deserve a NG+ category. All this TAS does (mainly according to ais523's post) is take the information of a secondary completed file and glitch to the final boss, which is cool, but doesn't warrant publication (not in the vault or moon tier). There is also the fact that the author didn't provide a verification movie, which goes against the publication rules and doesn't help judging the authenticity of this run.
I am looking forward to a new any% TAS of this game if you ever make one, though. Thanks for the submission!

That was a thoughtful and stimulating post jlun. DS Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (USA) in 03:42.93 by jlun2. This game uses save corruption to beat the game in a few minutes, so nobody can use the arguement that the DKR run is not entertaining enough to be accepted. I also completely agree with TrenchAce's post, it sounds fair.

This isn't DKR community, this is the TAS community. Yes it is, and I'm fucking glad im not a part of it. You all seem like a bunch of fun killing 30 year olds who can't even give me an explanation on why you voted no, even though i gave several valid reasons why it should be.

Also, how is this not different from getting 6 banana fairies to be able to FWG in DK64? ITS THE SAME PROCESS
I'm actually more inclined to think that the versions of FWG that rely on banana fairies should be banned, rather than this be allowed. In this case, there's more of a direct relationship between progress in the secondary save file, and progress in the game, though, so this case is even more dubious. (I guess if in the DK64 example, banana fairies were needed to unlock the weapons in a save file, the glitch would be dubious to the point of probably being rejected by the game's speedrun community. They aren't, though.) EDIT: Oh, and voting No just because a game's community is being annoying is not a good reason to vote. I haven't voted on this run yet, and am unlikely to before I understand all the issues.

That run's save file was created in the TAS, not outside of it. Before you mislead people, here's an insightful quote:

Yet you joined. Nice logic. What's next? Are you going to DDOS your favourite site?

When it comes down to it, Swordless used a DK64 style glitch in order to get OoT style results. I really hope you are not all so presumptuous as to reject this run.

Both cases are still save corruption.

I joined this site today only in order to stick up for what I believe in, not to be an avid member of iluvponies.org/tasvideos. How about you stop avoiding my factual evidence ABOUT the glitch?

Nope, since my run doesn't use complete the game mostly AND not count that as part of the run to mislead people.

The problem is that this run doesn't count creating the save as part of the run. Oh, and joining just to support SwordlessLink?....No comment.

This is not a speedrun, it's merely a glitch demonstration. This will never be legitimate unless you start time from the beginning of the first file's creation.

So with that logic every Newgame+ TAS on this site now needs to add the time used to complete the first file.

I was trolling him. The real reason is because the save file created and all the progress then wasn't counted in the timing, which people seem to love saying the same to my GTA run, despite the fact that my run includes the time. Oh, and what a bunch of lovely people from the DKR? community.

Eh? Save corruption is perfectly fine on tasvideos. And if i'm understanding correctly, there isn't even any save corruption in this movie?

IMO the only problem here is that the category isn't 'Newgame+ Glitched' or some equivalent. 30 second fix.

In a normal game, you have to beat the game in order to access Newgame+. In DKR, you have to beat the main game to access a sort of "unintentional" Newgame+ by unlocking Tracks mode. Again, the original save file does not affect the second file. Swordless is LOADING A NEW FILE, and beating the game using various tricks within the game's engine.

Coming here to try to "help" someone get a run published is ok, but insulting the community is not a good approach... I think.

We're just frustrated because the people who know more about this game are conflicted with people who don't, and you're quoting things random things i say because im frustrated rather than proving my actual evidence wrong, lol. sry for any h8.

jlun isn' t nice to DKR community too... I don't see the point of the last page, just a bunch of insults leading nowhere... Can we go back to the actual debate ? :/

Oh, I forgot something: Before people tell the judges to place this in the vault, the vault only allows "Any%" and "100%" runs:
Goal choice is limited to fastest completion time (any%), or full-completion (such as 100% or best ending).
So that leaves it to the moon category. In that case, it would be better off as a playaround or seomthing, not a speedrunning TASing record.

I completely agree, this is going nowhere when people start to attack each other. If everybody can calm down, it can make for an interesting conversation: we have people who know a lot about the game AND people who know a lot about the rules that apply to TASes here after all...

There's a larger rules issue here, your game knowledge/skill are all but irrelevant.

Exactly. I've never played the game, but I watched the run and found it entertaining therefore I can vote yes!!! Great system!!
