I'm not saying it couldn't be better (that's not what stars mean anyway), but I thought it was pretty obvious that run deserved the star. It's one of the few runs you can show to somebody who's never even seen or heard of the game before and get a response of "this game is awesome!", which is exactly the focus of these runs (to show off what the game can do, not the player).
I can't believe I never thought to do this sooner. My brother and I must have rented this game 50 times when we were kids, and we'd always spend a lot of time just screwing around until the NES overheated. Namely, trying to leap over that stupid partition in the warehouse, and hurling each other into the river.
I found an odd glitch during an epic struggle against a wooden box. Watch closely. The box is mightier than the sword. (Mightier than the pen-is, anyway.)
Now I'm picturing this scene, under the bridge would work well:
Alex and Ryan arrive and see the two enemies, Ryan decides to sit back and let Alex do all the work. Alex does well for a while but soon he has trouble fending them both off. As he starts taking a beating, Ryan jumps in knocking them both away, but accidentally hitting Alex too. Ryan finishes the enemies off as Alex comes to, then Alex starts attacking Ryan. Ryan just blocks all the moves and as he's backed to the edge, he picks up Alex, chucks him into the river, and walks away.
Heh... I don't think there's any way to express "laziness" in this game. Though, tossing Ryan into the river for trying to help would probably make Alex look pretty "ornery." :D
I don't feel this way. The run to me is "run to the next boss and then fight him quickly". It's well done, and a couple surprising moments with throwing the trash can against walls and such, but it's nothing mind-blowing to me.
On the other hand, I think the scene NrgSppon described would be extremely entertaining to watch (mind wanders back to Battletoads Level 6...*BOOT*)

Well, I was literally describing what happened when I showed the run to someone. Watching it now, it isn't all that mindboggling, I guess...
Anyway, it's interesting where this is heading - a lot of things can be acted out within this game. But I'm wondering if there's some way to define some goals that would naturally lead to more interesting fight scenes.
EDIT: See this video I posted earlier in another thread. This game has a left+right glitch where weird things happen if you try to start running (double-tap) in one direction while holding the other direction. I don't know if it can be used for anything practical (for pure speed purposes), but maybe it can. I managed to go safely through a wall with it once in that video but I have no idea how I did it or if that could save time anywhere. Also, I once got in some hits with it that apparently did lots of damage compared to normal hits (killed a boss in about 5 punches) but I accidentally re-recorded over it and I'm not sure how to make it happen again or if that's what I really saw happen.

I am currently doing a 2 player run right now. My time is 3:29 on Blade(with him almost defeated) I am playing on hard and there is a weird glitch where you can vanish from the screen. So far the glitch has come in handy only once.
Change my sig. again, and I will murder your pet fish.
If I'm not mistaken, the previous run was played on easy mode because bosses take too long to beat in the hardest difficulty, which made the run look boring.
On the other hand, I haven't played to River City Ransom, so I can't be of any help.

did you watch my wip?
a.k.a
did you skip the first boss?
Yeah, if you are talking about Moose, yes I skipped him.
But, your movie is ~900 frames slower almost by the time you beat up Rocko. I use 1 player on him so the guy who is fighting him can glitch out and die while the 1st player runs through the door. Just watch my movie and see. I think its really entertaining.

So far this is my take:
Boss fights are quite entertaining and generally not as laggy as I thought they would be. The rest of the game is beyond boring, but that's not your fault.
Question - Ryan committed suicide a few times in the middle, but not the first time he was on those screens (the screen that Moose is in, for example). Any reason?

Guanobowl: have you tried to get a "Criticle Hit" to work as Nitsuja has posted some time ago?
Thats where my run is paused, at Boss2 trying to figure out how to do it, watching the memory(with the help of FODA).
Will watch your run now.

yeah, I killed Ryan because he wont have to move up to waste time. Plus he has no extra power so he doesnt lose any. I thought it is funny watching him jump off.

I realize that, but it seemed there were a couple times you could have done this and didn't. Examples - frames 2100 and 5000.

Even in rooms that there is no lag, you still should kill off the guy who is behind, because you have to wait for him to run to the end, when if you kill him off, you only have to cross the front guy, making it faster.

yeah, but i want him to grab a trashcan for my plan for boss 2, Rocko. I should have killed him off in the 1st room but I didnt think about it. As well as some other rooms after the 2nd boss. Ill finish my run and post it sometime in the future. Currently I'm trying out N64 roms due to it has hardly any runs at the moment.

I strongly suggest you redo your run.
1: use the short cuts i have used in my movie in ALOT of places to speed it up.
2: Play on Novice.
I really don't have the time now to do it myself so, I will monitor your runs and give tips.
I want to know what the viewers want in this run.
in 2P, you will experience alot of lag that you will not find in 1P, but there if a suicide glitch to stop this, by suiciding one player and finish the room with the other, it will rid of the lag. But doing this also looks "cheap", or cheating, also uninteresting seeing the same thing happen over and over, seeing one guy suicide. While in 1P, you have no lag, but you can not kill the bosses as quick as you can in 2P.
On that note about the bosses, the Normal difficulty has regular boss health, while hard mode just adds more health to the bosses and other gang members to make it harder.
I want to know youe opinion on this, to help me get an idea of what kind of TAS to do.
