We recently rolled out a dynamic "Flag" system for the site. The power behind this system is that it is now easy to set flags such that an icon (optional) will show on movies, and they can be listed by this flag. For example: http://tasvideos.org/Movies-Verified.html users can now see a listing of movies with a particular flag, or in combination with other filters: http://tasvideos.org/Movies-Moons-NES-Verified.html In addition, editors (and users with homepages) can use the wiki module to place custom lists on pages: [module:displaymovie|flags=Verified|noflags|obs] For more information on how to build urls and what can be done in the displaymovie moduel, see the Movie Tokens page Eventually we will build a "Token Builder" page, where uses can select from all these options and click a button to be taken to a movie list based on their criteria (this would also include Game names). The point of this post however, is to emphasize that it is very easy to add flags, just need a criteria and an icon, from there staff users can add the flags to the necessary movies. So what kind of flags would you guys like to see?

These flags being things like "Stars" "Moons" "Vault" "AVGN" "Console Verified" and "Notable Improvement"? If I've understood this right? In advance I do hope I understood this right :) I think easier organization on the main movie pages for the consoles/handhelds/arcades/etc themselves in the blank area (note the red): http://i48.tinypic.com/dzxm2u.jpg Could be used for things like "Show only stars" "Show only Moons" "Show only Vault" "Show only console Verified" and etc. That image was made on the NES TAS list on the site. That could help filter the list down for people who want to watch only NES TAS for example. -- Flags I'd like to see?: - "Crowd Favorites" = Games that people know basically around the world, ones where you can't hardly go anywhere with people saying I don't know what that game is. Games like Zelda or Mario. But That would be more based on the game itself and not reflect the TAS so that's a hard call... Especially if someone wanted to do a TAS of a bad game in a franchise (Superman 64 anyone?). With the abolition of the "bad game choice" rule too; that's an even harder call. - "Flags by Genre" = These flags could show the genre of a game by what it's most based on heavily. Ofcourse if this was used it'd require something like a drop down box for convience. Flag icons could range from survival horror showing a zombie or a rpg showing a chocobo head.

Stars, Moons and Vault are tiers. Current flags in use are AVGN, Notable improvement, Console-Verified, First platform and Has commentary.

Isn't it better to use AVGN only for bad games? I mean there's not that much point about this flag.

I've got an idea for a flag, Atlas map encodes that AndyDick does: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9731 We could flag all the movies he's done, and of course link the video on the movie description.

I have an idea for a flag. It's called "LOLflags" and we can just slap it on a movie that has no other tag.

Japanese/US/PAL versions. If you want icons, there is quite an... Iconic game for that: The ingame ones: I don't know what can be done for PAL versions ^^

Why there's no Touch-me's Secret of Mana and Dragon Quest 5 in "Has commentary" group? Both movies have awesome encode.

We definitely need a framewar tag! Like this:
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Let's not use this thread for flag maintenance requests, this is just about ideas. We should have a thread dedicated to these types of posts.

Having one sticky thread for all flags maintenance is more handy than having 5 threads constantly drowning among others.

I think these would be better suited as movie classes. If there were flags though, I think the standard is to use the nation's flag as icons I added the atlas map flag, just need some volunteers to assign it to movies.

What would be the usefulness of the framewar tag? It's not like it would be a synonym to technical superiority of the movie. So what's the exact meaning (for a casual visitor)? By the way, what about notable "music-sync" movies? Those where the player dances/shoots to the music in a notable fashion. An icon could be a music note or something.

Also cool idea with the music moves. We are going to need a redesign of the publication page to keep all flags it may need. About the framewar: I personally think the framewar means people were competing in getting the best result, and it DOES mean the certain level of perfectness that ONE TASer would not achieve (no competition/motivation). Also the very frame war event is cool and notable, ideally every flagged movie provides the links to submissions that took part in it. Glitched Battlotoads were the case when the frame war was going on right in the submission thread.

We could stack the flags vertically instead, in the empty space on the outside of the description or the screenshot, and in descending order of importance (star would be at the top). Regarding the frame war flag, what difference is the level of optimization between a highly optimized run that an author knows is unimprovable (like Super Mario Bros "warps") and a run that happened to have a frame war to get to the same level of optimization? Wouldn't this be unfairly giving a run that was born from a frame war this "optimized" status and withholding it from a run like SMB warps?

I don't think the flame war flag is something that is significant enough to have an icon. On a more important note, we need a "first publication for a platform" icon, if anyone is interesting in attempting that.

Frame wars occur for relatively simple games, this flag is not EQUAL to perfectness, it's something different, it's about the even, where people were having fun.
