I found a few more tips. In the volcano zone, you can do a dialog skip by pressing A to activate the character switcher in just the right position so you can keep moving, and then activate the "giant boulder" smashing tutorial. since the game is already transitioning, it skips the dialog, saving time. Also, I HAVE A SUPER STARTEGY FOR CLOCKWORK GUARDIAN! he has two phases. However, by hitting him with one Sandy Explosion combo and then eleven squid kicks (no more, no less), I can leave him at just enough health that one Sandy Explosion defeats him, skipping the second phase. And I found all that on vacation. Oh btw new RTS WR: 1:15:52.43

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1362058114/Atlantis%20Squarepantis%20Verification%20Movie%20%28WIP%29.dsm this is just the verification movie wip. I'm not done with it, I just have to get the emulator off my computer right now to make space for other projects.

Well, remember this post:

About hard mode, are you sure that it only affects minigames and does not have any subtle changes in the level layout? Things like additional enemies and what not. Those changes can be difficult to spot.
Well, it seems the levels are exactly the same, but some minigames are adjusted ever so slightly along with enemies being able to withstand like 2 more hits. I believe you still have the same amount of health though, so I'm just going to go ahead and use the hardest difficulty in hopes that stronger enemies = more creative ways to kill them. This game is still annoying as hell to TAS though. :P

Its not enough that it actually makes a difference. And it costs alot more time to activate hard mode, (not to mention the extra length of the some minigames due to hard mode) than its worth. Not like it would make a difference in difficulty for me, but the game does intentionally prolong the minigames if you set it to a higher difficulty. So its really not worth it. Edit: also, the game isn't really that hard to tas, just hard to set it up, 'specially considering my schedule

Uh....heh. About that, I kinda....paused this version for now after I discovered quite an interesting glitch for the GBA version. I don't want to post an encode for it to keep it a surprise, but here's a WIP of it if you (and others) who don't mind spoilers. Done with vba-v24m-svn480 btw

Oy I just remembered. Its possible for plankton during the final boss to make the stray cannonball land in the cannon by itself so you dont have to carry it to a cannon to make plankton vulnerable. And thats how I got the current world record. I do not know how it happened exactly, but since its possible, its gonna be a pain to luck manipulate that in the tas. X.X

I'm already at the end of the GBA version btw. I think I should be able to submit it today or the next (hopefully). Edit: Done! The last form was ironically, the easiest. I'm writing the submission text and making some encodes now.

Y'know what, when I get back on computer, I'll just use your test run as a verification movie, and worry about trying to collect treasures later. I JUST WANT IT TO BE DONE! DX

Uh...about that, despite my attempts to make the GBA version more entertaining, it was vaulted because of the long minigames. I think a normal run first should be made for audience feedback, before a squidward run be attempted (since the vault tier doesn't seem to allow this)

Well, I want to do the squidward run, as that is the one I have my route for. It's just annoying to set it up, as I have almost no time to make the verification movie, being busy and all.

I tried speedrunning again, and got a time of 1:18:00.6. Its nowhere near my best time, mainly due to being out of practice, but I feel if I was in practice, I would've gotten a new record. Hey, I had to do SOMETHING while I had this flu. :P

Uhhhh, funny thing, I just pressed start while the ending was playing, diring the part where it showed the gang in the bus, and then it booted me to the third cutscene. Im serious. AND THEN THE FIRST LEVEL! Replay much!? O.o

Well, for the GBA version, after the ending plays, it takes you back to the title screen, and for other spongebob games like battle for bikini bottom skipping the end takes you in front of the police station at the spongeball arena entrance, so maybe it's like that too for this game? What happens if you don't skip it?

No, its supposed to go to the next scene in the ending and then the credits. But it just went from the middle of the ending straight to the third scene in the game and then the first level when i pressed the start button accidentally. I know the game well enough to know that thats an epic glitch.

Well, you can skip most of the dialogue by Start, so I'm not sure would language really matter for this game. :P

Good news! My dad made it so I can record from my real DS, so I'll be able to show off my TASing route in real time! It'll be a while before I decide to do that, however, as I am currently working on other projects for my yotuube channel.

Link to video Actually isn't too bad to speedrun. Too bad a rail shooter is after this :/

It bugs me the fact that you didn't used the American version, or even the Japanese version! The text is considerably faster in that version.

I agree with you, but only for the entertainment value instead of the speed. Most of the text is seems to be annoyingly blatant tutorials, and changing it to Japanese imo would make it less obvious that they are tutorials.

Hm, yeah, I can see the reasoning for that. I'll swap to the Japanese version for future WIPs.

That sounds like a fun way to mess with english viewers; make it (J), causing them to want a translation, only to realize most of it is about how to play the game lol ;)

Just to let everyone know, I've pretty much given up on TASing this. I do not have the patience! However, I will still help where I can, and as soon as I have a speedrun recorded off my real DS, I'll post it here. Looking at your WIP, wow! There are more ways to cut the time of the run! I'll bear that in mind! Especially that part before the escape sequence. Maybe there's a way to manipulate Spongebob to stay on the big platform while you jump to the area where they mention the unstable platforms? Also, good luck manipulating the final boss to get it's cannonball to hit itself, that's only ever happened to me twice.
