Argh...the movie desynchs when I use "Final Fantasy 5 (J)". What ROM did you use (referring to Boco's movie on page 4)?

Cheap tactics for world 2: Abductor: Let it kill you. Whee. Gilgamesh 1: Demi Gilgamesh 2: Release a sand bear, jail bear and 2 sand bears. Stupid lizard: Fenix Down Abductor (is it the name?): Break Stupid Plant: Death Claw + attack Gilgamesh 3: !Mix a doom potion, if you can. If doom potion works, death claw should too? Atomos: Sleep... or Dark Shock + Lvl 5 Death Crystals: Deathclaw can hit them all ExDeath: Release 4 yellow dragons. Really the only way to kill him fast. I think the fastest way to kill the last boss is !mixing level up potions and throwing gil. Gil Throw is fast and deals a lot of damage, and you don't have to buy that much stuff so you'll have a lot of money.

3. Mastering (if that is possible in timeattack) Ninja or Hunter will most likely help in battles you can't run away from. Since from Ninja you get ability which allows you to equip 2 weapons and from Hunter you get S-Shot, which allows you to hit 4 times in one turn. 6. Don't go get any summons or songs, they are pretty useless (except mayby Golem and Bahamut, but they will take some time to get them)
Since this is almost like a LLG, getting the S-shot & 2-swords won't be usefull as you will most likely use more magic & items than attacking... As for the Summons, I would recommend getting Golem,Shoat, Garnet/Carbuncle & Odin, this are very useful summons for Boss battles...

You're always welcome to help out. The first world is almost done. In case you need to talk to Boco or me, we do so through ICQ (321923553 is mine, 6243605 is Boco's).

This is the latest WIP. Still only the test run rather than the final version of the run. Send me a message on ICQ sometime. :)

Shoat is useless - break is the same thing. According to my terribly hard calculations, you need to have everyone at lvl 70 to be able to kill Neo ExDeath in 2 turns (8 actions). To raise your levels, you need to use Dragon Power (20 lvls, dragonfang + (hi-)potion or 10 lvl antidote + holy water - dragon fangs can't be bought) Assuming your levels will be at least 10, you'd need somewhere between 12-24 actions (3-6 turns) to prepare, and golem and carbuncle possibly to survive, and 6,001... = 6 actions to kill it (reflected damage). That makes a total of 6 + 12 + 8 = 26 actions, 6,5 turns. Assuming my calculations are correct, 7 turns for final battle is not bad. Assuming original levels are 10, it would take 18 gil tosses, 50 * 10 * 4 * 18 gil, total 36000 gil. The algorithms are (lvl + 10 - def) * 150 for gil toss and 50 * original level * targets for lost gil. NeoExdeath has 30 def and exdeath has 35. Damage should be 7500 to NXD and ED 6750. Highest HP for NXD is 60000 and ED has 40001. I hope my calculations, values and algorithms are correct.

I watched the run so far and it's looking good. I'd just like to point out that in the wind temple (I believe thats what it was called) on the floor with the boss you can actually walk through the wall by the door you enter to get whatever item was in there. That saves you having to walk around that spiral. i haven't read the rest of the topic so possibly the next question I have has already been answered, but, is it possible to avoid random fights entirely? By possibly waiting a frame here and there to make the RNG spit out a new number and not force you into a fight? I know this is only the test run and all so I can understand you not avoiding fights altogether. I was just wondering. Other than that it looks good (for a test run anyway). ^_^

Instead of leveling yourself, why not leveling ExDeath? You may say this is insane, BUT if you level him to 255, then you can kill him with Lv 5 Doom, I know its cheap, but it's faster. Now, there's still another glitch, you can berserk ExDeath, so that he can't transform himself to Neo ExDeath because he won't be able to cast magic & win the battle ASAP...

I said I had not read the topic. I would, normally, before I post, however, at the time I was rushing to get ready to go to a festival in our town. I didn't have the time to read the whole topic. I will read it tomorrow when I have the time.

What ROM do you use to view the speedrun correctly? I've tried using Final Fantasy V (J).smc ROM mentioned earlier in the thread, but it desyncs right at the beginning in the forest. I downloaded the ROM named "Final Fantasy V (J)" but when I unzipped it with WinRAR, it gave me the "Final Fantasy 5 (J).smc" ROM. Does that make much a difference? Or did I miss some set-up directions somewhere? I didn't have any problems viewing the other speedruns on this fourm on the SNES9X emulator. Help would be appericated. :)

A) Make sure you're using the latest version of the emulator found here. B) Let the emulator "warm up" after loading the rom for about 10 seconds before you play the movie. C) Mess with the recorder/sound setting, particularly muted sound and the fake mute de-synch workaround. D) If none of those work, you do, indeed have the wrong Rom. There are small discrepancies between versions, but usually the difference between "5" and "V" is that someone didn't want to put the title in roman numerals. =P

Thanks for the tips quietkane. I simply just played around with all the voice-based options like you suggested, and the movie ran just perfectly. :3

Soo, when can we expect to se this completed? I may have said this before but I'd really like to see this as full since I'm pretty huge FF fan.
Which run should I encode next? :)

Forever from now because what's happened already is just a test run. I guess if I have time over the weekend I could do the Ancient Library (that part isn't in the current WIP, is it?). After that things get a little more complicated.. everything is easy until the cannons, which can die pretty quick to 雷神の術 but "pretty quick" means "very slow" compared to everything else. I have no idea how to handle ArchaeoAvis though. 6400 damage, then L5 Death.. which means one party member must be Blue Mage. If the other three are Monster Trainers, then three of the earlier forms can die to Sandbears.. but what about the 4th? that would mean 1600 damage to deal with no weaknesses to exploit and no large-damage spells or items to use. Any ideas? (current plan: Go to Ancient Library Learn L5 Death Kill Ifrit (2x Ice Rod) Kill Byblos (Death Claw + attack) Return to Karnak, get Fire Ship Go to south islands to learn Black Shock Sink the Fire Ship Get the Black Chokobo Go to Lix to buy ~~の術 Return to Ancient Library Go to Desert, kill sandworm (3x 水遁の術) (possibly catch Sandbears here) Go to Lonka Go to Catapult, kill clayclaw (2x 雷神の術) Return to Lonka Return to Tycoon Meteor Kill Adamantoise (L5 death) etc) Edit: Euh, also a problem.. how to avoid Titan's final attack? Playing through normally made me realise that you need Levitate (which you get in the second world) or you need to be levelled into the teens. So you can Control an enemy to get the Float status (which means spending 60 AP on Control I believe, and that's slow) or finding some kind of earth absorb, alternate Float, or power levelling somewhere.

For what I remember, you can control a Gala Cat, they have the Float Magic. Another posibility is to use Jump command (Dragoon Ability). Not sure if Conceal is available immediately, if it's then you can also try it...

Titan can probably be won with a Dragoon because of !Jump. Algorithm faq in gamefaqs says that the 4th form of ArchaeAvis is not heavy, maybe deathclaw?

!Jump it is. (I never would have thought of that). Yeah, it seems the even-numbered forms aren't Heavy, so Death Claw should work fine. Sandbear + Sandbear + Sandbear + Death Claw + attack + L5 Death should do it, or one less Sandbear if it takes too long to catch it (IE fewer random battles with Sandbears in them during the cross-the-desert section) or if there's not enough MP for both spells (they take just over 20 each).

Could you possibly make an .avi file of your progress so far since I'm having some trouble with the emulator. I'd definitely want to point out if there's anything that could be done faster somehow.

You could just go to crescent island and level up until you can take the main attack from the chimera or whatever...aurorake I think it is. Then use aerorake to kill the boss in the desert and then with the money you got from leveling up just buy some rods and kills the cannons and the flying dragon...finish him off with the L5 Death.

..that would take about 13 years.

It sounds like capturing sand bears would take a while too. It does work...and it's not 13 years.

Boco didn't mean that it would literally take 13 years. But it sure would take a lot longer than the Sandbear method. I'm glad to be seeing progress in this topic. :) Maybe I should try to encode an AVI later, though it'd have to be XviD since I can't yet inject LAME MP3 into x264-encoded video streams. Nandub just won't open the video streams, claiming I don't have a proper codec. Maybe DeHackEd would be brave enough to do it, if he has the free time and will? There's already over an hour of material available.
