I think everyone has heard of the Angry Video Game Nerd, who would be #1 on the list, but what about reviews of good games? For that I personally go to Roo from Clan of the Gray Wolf. If I want to watch a let's play, I visit HCBailly as I find him entertaining. However my window on the world of gaming is quite small. I'm wondering what other famous "gaming people" there are online?

Most of the staff and players on the site are famous? What kind of silly thread is this? You just did the in real life equivalent of walking into a large production movie studio and asked if anyone in the room was famous.

Many people like The Spoony Experiment. (He sometimes reviews other things besides video games, but mostly he does the latter.)

I'm famous? :o I think you'd like the Happy Video Game Nerd, TheNewTeddy. He does what you described in your first paragraph.

Well, you're still relatively new here and haven't done anything with tons of exposure yet so probably not. But go around emulation gaming circles and mention names like Bisqwit, adelikat, or myself, and almost everyone will know who you're talking about.

I'd like to expand my knowledge of the gaming world. It is not (intended to be) silly at all. I'm not a "gamer" as my first hobby, so I don't know all the different entertainment sources that are out there. In particular, I'm looking for personalities.

Large production movie studio? :D Anyway, TotalBiscuit comes to mind. If you've ever played Terraria, this playlist he's done with Jesse Cox is a must. Also good are his collaborations on Magicka and Trine 2 with the Yogscast. When it comes to e-sports, I like James '2GD' Harding and his new project TheGDStudio. They do weekly shows on Starcraft 2, Bloodline: Champions, DotA2 and Quake Live. Especially QL is an awesome game to spectate and 2GD is a great caster.

All of those people are famous, but some people are more famous than others.

Anyway, TotalBiscuit
As far as I'm concerned, TotalBiscuit puts everyone else to shame. His Mailbox and WTF is... series are a must watch. In fact, I have been watching TB's videos like a fiend for the last 4 months, and they have completely and irrevocably spoiled me. I can no longer watch other gaming commentaries. Thanks to TB, I expect the commentator to have a good voice, be an articulate speaker, have crisp audio and high-quality video, do extensive research and preparation before answering a gaming-related question or even doing playthrough, be witty and entertaining, and most importantly, provide intelligent, well-thought out answers. It's rare that a Youtube gaming personality possesses even two of these qualities, let alone all of them. I will also mention that I occasionally watch Pat the NES Punk. While he is nothing special or amazing, his reviews and Flea Market Madness series are generally quite amusing and informative. My impressions of some of the other gaming personalities; Yahtzee- The first video I saw by him, I thought he was hilarious and brilliant. By the tenth video, I thought he was okay, nothing special. By the 30th video, the whole thing seemed so tired and pathetic, I haven't bothered to watch anything else. The problem is, he repeats the same criticisms over and over again, like mad libs, regardless of whether they apply to the game in question or not. He doesn't really do "reviews" nor are they particularly informative, especially since he frequently admits to only playing an hour or two of the title. And there are certain gaming genres, like fighting games, where he is hilariously inept. Thus, the only thing you have is the comedy. Which at first, is great. But as he re-uses the same jokes and visuals over and over and over and over, it becomes worn-out and tiresome. It doesn't help that I played a few of the amateur games that he designed himself...and they were completely awful. Roo- Okay. I have fond memories of many of the games he reviews, so I can watch his overly long, information-light videos. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't like them. Spoony- Garbage. Angry Video Game Nerd- Meh. I have a hard time of thinking anything to say about these videos, positive or negative. It's like a normal piece of rye bread; it's not tasty or memorable, but if you're hungry, you'll eat it in a pinch.

I watched his video titled "WTF Is... : Revelations 2012 ?" (his newest video on that series) and it was... hmm... unimpressive. I'm not saying it was bad (I have seen considerably worse), I'm just not feeling the awesomeness that you convey in your post when describing his videos. Now, it's perfectly possible that I just happened to choose one of his weakest videos and that I shouldn't judge his entire work based on that alone (and I'm definitely going to check at least a half dozen more), but the first impression was not all that great, for me at least. (It might also just be a question of personal preference.)

While I love it overall, the WTF is... series can be very hit and miss. It's a first impressions video of a game, after all. Sometimes it's fun and informative, other times it's not. The first video I watched by TotalBiscuit was this and I really fell in love with his mailbox series. I should also note that while I often find TB funny, he is not primarily a comedic commentator, like say Yahtzee. So if you're looking solely for laughs, he is not ideal. But yeah, definitely watch another video or two before you make up your mind on him.

MST3K is awesome. I'd have to check them out. BTW, the poster above me has never heard of MST3K and that makes me sad. I think that Rikku's SM64 run is famous, it has over 14 million views on youtube.

He's popular because he's funny and a good LPer. Since we're getting into Let's Plays now, Nova is the most popular player of user-submitted Happy Wheels (flash game) levels. He also has quite a few Minecraft videos.

No, not really. TASVideos is still a relatively small community. No one knows me from bupkis outside of these forums. adelikat, our single most prolific author, administrator, and guy here from the get go isn't even really known outside of here and SDA.
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.
