In this game from the list of ideas Dizzy must travel Treasure Island collecting coins and various items to barter his way to a boat so that he could escape.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.10.60 with TAS Editor
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Completes with a 100%
  • Genre: Puzzle/Platform

Comments

Treasure Island Dizzy is one of four games on a compendium called Quattro Adventure which also contained Linus Spacehead, Super Robin Hood and Boomerang Kid.
To win the game you must collect various pieces over the beach that were used to access other locations to finally escape the island. The controls for the game are quite simplistic and not very responsive so much of the optimization had to come from finding the optimal route.
To complete the game acquiring coins is unnecessary but you get a "bad ending" result after you cross the waterway in the boat. Not collecting the coins would probably save around a minute but I chose to collect to get the best ending.

Other comments

Overall this is in my opinion far from the most interesting game but is completed quickly and hopefully is entertaining. It was on the list of ideas so I am hoping that there is a fan base out there who would appreciate the work.
Thanks to Bag of Magic Food for his help with route planning and help overall. This run would be worse without your input.

Baxter: Apparently, this TAS had enough positive response to warrant publication. Accepting.

Dacicus: Publishing

Several people appear to be familiar with this game. Is there any spot in the run that you guys think would make a good screenshot?

You know, I can't believe how many fucking people jumped on this right from the start for things like the MUSIC of all things. Goddamn, just mute it. This is TASvideos. People make TAS Videos. Of games. You know, those things you play? Have those of you who "gave up" on the video even you given a thought to the gameplay over everything else? I'm not sure it even needs to be said but it seems for a long time people have been of the mindset "Only my favorite games should be on the site, if I don't like the game that means it's a bad TAS". Seriously people. Unless a game has absolutely no space for TAS improvement or is a text adventure, there's hardly a reason to give up on it. It seriously can't be taking up that much space on the site that hosts 5 different runs of each popular game that you would have to deny it just because you don't like the game.

I used to own quattro adventure and it was one of my favorite games for the nes. Thank you tons for making this TAS, I was wondering when someone would finally do it. For the majority of you reading this, there is a single part of this TAS that the author makes look ridiculously easy, and despite countless childhood attempts, I could never figure out. When you grab the diamond in the mines, a boulder starts chasing you. For some reason, EVERY time I got to the next screen, I would just instantly die. Never quite figured out why. Oh, and the part where you JUMP INTO fish to get a hidden coin...seriously. Doing that to any other fish = insta death. And if anyone wants to play one of the most brutal nes games ever, try beating linus spacehead....

Thanks. And by the way, when you get to the room don't move for a second and then go. There is a rock that falls and hits you that doesn't actually display as hitting you so you have to wait.

Done. Even did it with all candies. Once you get used to the slippery controls and strange jumping, it's not that brutal.

I'll just leave this here ;) Link to video Seriously though, I like many others here was annoyed by the music and couldn't get through this run, and I was going to vote no. But then I realized, this game has a moonwalking egg. How many fecking games do you know that have a motherloving moonwalking egg in them?! So I upgraded my no vote to a meh. It looks tight and optimized, but it was a bad game choice aesthetically. EDIT: put in the wrong video. Derp. Now it's fixed.

Agreeing slightly.

But if we don't like the game, or the TAS, are we not allowed to vote no? On the contrary, would it not be very damaging to only watch runs of the games we know we like? I mean, I've TASed several games I've never played in my life. Because they seemed to be games suited for TASing.

To be honest my first console was a SNES, and it was nearing the end of its run, so I don't have much experience with NES games and as it turns out I had played 0 of the games I have TAS'ed prior to TAS'ing them. I just like playing NES and beating new games.

Some possible screenshots: I'm planning to use the top left one if I don't get any feedback or other suggestions. EDIT: expired image link removed
