Jurassic Park in 25:03.5

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.1.5
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses a bug due to which eggs can be destroyed several times
  • Uses a faster way to move the jumps, the landing player moves one pixel, which saves a little time.

Comments

Speedrun time counted from the moment of Power On to the last action needed for the show titers, because this game has no clear end.

Mukki: Judging...
Mukki: This run does not meet our standard of optimsation. jlun2 has demonstrated that this run can be beaten by over 6 seconds in the first stage alone (this is less than three minutes into a twenty five minute run, including the lengthy opening). This is a considerable loss indeed. After watching both this run and the WIP alongside one another I am of the opinion that the difference in quality is greater than can be allowed, therefore I am rejecting this submission.

Despite this low rerecord counter the run looks cool. Voting Yes.

I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Unless I'm missing something, why didn't you submit the 24:57 run which you uploaded to YouTube? If anyone could translate that to Russian for khv-user, that would be nice.

It might be exactly the same run. The Youtube videos are 955 + 945, the last movement on the 3rd part happens at 524. I think the title in the Youtube link tells you the last boss hit rather than the last input frame.

khv-user, народ интересуется, это то же самое, что и у тебя на ютубе? Почему там короче по времени?

It's the same movie, just in the first movie time was counted before the killing "boss", but after that should still go to the heliport. ---------------------------------------- Это одно и тоже видео, просто в ютубовском прохождении отсчет велся до убийства "босса", но после него еще нужно пройти на вертолетную площадку.

OK, finished watching the run. It was fairly good. I certainly did not know that you can shoot at the eggs. Yes vote. ..though, I think it'd be better to show the credits "level" (the one just before the high score entry), but that's just me.

You just gave me an idea. Edit: I found it! A lost WIP from my old computer. It is faster than this movie by 55 frames by the time I enter the first room. WIP Sorry! No vote.

Déjà vu... The answer was that it is more boring or so. Can't remember where I've seen that already.

Sure, I'll do that right now. Thanks for motivating me to redo my wip. I guess... =p

Yeah, that WIP hints at frame perfection (& great rerecord count comparing to this submission), but it isn't finished. While here we actually have the fastest game completion so far.

Uh...did you even watch my WIP? While I'm only 55 frames faster by the end of the first section, I'm 405 frames ahead by the end of stage 1. =/

Remember, we rather quality over quantity. If jlun2's WIP is faster by 55 frames in the by the time he enters the first room, then there could be improvement all over the TAS. Besides, the re-record counter says how much effort you did on making this TAS. So, even if there is no existing TAS of this game on the site, i'd say this should be rejected since it doesn't have the "quality".

Perhaps I should explain more clearly. While the route plan is quite well thought out, there are movement optimisations that can definitely be capitalised on, as evidenced by jlun2's WIP. Also, on the GB version (which mirrors this game in terms of level design except in a few places), there is a glitch where you can trick the game into counting an egg as being destroyed, but by doing this off camera the egg graphic doesn't actually disappear, so it can be repeated until all eggs are destroyed in that area. With this glitch alone, the GB version will be faster than the NES version. Perhaps I should revive working on the GB version and complete a TAS there.

Why can't there be two movies? It's two different platforms; I'm sure there are viewers who care about one but not about the other.

With a glitch that different, I don't see a problem with 2 movies for this game, on two different platforms.

This TAS might qualify for "Gruefood Delight / Not Optimal". What do you think about this idea?
