My time atack for the game Shinobi 3. I love this game!
Tanks for all.

Bisqwit: You seem to assume everyone knows this game.
I don't. Can you describe it?
I'm mostly interested what's your excuse for pauses in movements, and what do you think makes this movie interesting.
Also, you didn't specify whether your movie takes damage to save time, and so on. Were you in hurry to submit it?
Neofix: I´m played in EXPERT level, and finish the game whithout damage.
  • Takes no damage
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Plays at hardest level
  • Genre: Platform
Bisqwit: Rechanged the status to "New" since the question has been answered.

Bisqwit: Queueing for encoding.

Bisqwit: Cancelling the queuing because of voting status. Still waiting for actual judging.

Okay then, I've got it working now - thanks for the help, Bisqwit! :) I think I understand why he made those deliberate pauses in movement. It seems to me that in some parts of the game, it's considered an easy kill to hit a certain enemy as they're "powering up." Additionally, it looks like some levels depend on certain elements being "on screen" in order for the player to access them. Beyond that, there are a couple sloppy points, but apparently a good effort overall for a first attempt in my book. I will vote once I finish watching it. :) EDIT: I've finished watching the video. I believe he makes the moves he does to avoid taking any hits, but I could be wrong. Neofix, we'd all appreciate a little clarification on that point! That being said, I'm loathe to recommend the production of ANY Genesis movie, but I think this one deserves it.

"pauses in movement" means the you stop moving at some points for tiny bit. Sloppy means that you mess at some points. I haven't seen the movie, but this is what they are saying.

Hmmm, this is tough. The movie is really good, but I think it could be even better. You collect a lot more shuriken than you really need, going out of your way to get them sometimes (I'm thinking of the cave level and in front of the final boss door). Also, the magics reset to one after each level, so I think you should probably find a way to use it each level. Isn't the suicide magic really powerful? Wouldn't that defeat bosses quickly? You end up with a lot of extra lives, so that's something to consider.

neofix, let me tell you what they said: (in portuguese) eles querem saber porque que em alguns momentos você ficou parado em vez de sair correndo o mais rapido possivel, e parecem estar reclamando tb que em alguns momentos você foi "relaxado" (sloppy), tipo poderia ter ficado mais bonito e mais rapido. responde aí que eu traduzo pra eles

FODA, don't let him misunderstand me, I think it's a decent first run. It just needs a little improvement here and there, but overall - not bad. ;)

On some other places, i deviated from the route to get itens (magic) that allow me to kill the bosses quickly. About being sloppy, it depends on the player's taste. I have my style, and it seems to be different from most players on this site. For example, i like to shoot many shurikens during the game, and people complain about the waste (see shadow dancer run). It's just a diference in style, each one has it's own. People think i have to make the videos to please them, when all i want is to please me and my friends. Thnx" i said: "that's exactly what i was talking about on your other run. This site is not only for your amusement, it's to amuse other people who will see the run on games played as fast as possible, and on the places that you have to wait, you should make impressive moves, it's better than just stand waiting."

English: OK, I am going to try do videos each better time. In my one opnion we should create a collection with all of the film of the games of genesis, nes and snes played to the end in the maximum level of difficulty. Understand like always the games offer resorts for itself do a playing perfect or pretty. I is doing the best one that am able to, and even so, retaining improve! :P

I don't think Babelfish works too well, actually--it can translate, but not fluently. It's his choice, but Neofix's english is not bad...

I voted no. There are some nice moves in this video, but it can be done a lot better. For example: * you end with more than 100 shurikens, but you still took long detours to get extra, wasting a lot of time. * in the trap house you went out of your way to pick up an extra jutsu, and then you didn't use it. huh? * a lot of the sub-bosses are pretty slow. Some simple testing revealed that there are several seconds of improvement here. * you don't start running as early as possible when you land. This is visible even at 100% speed. * sometimes before you land you have no horizontal speed. * corner cuts are pretty bad at some spots * you dont detonate the bombs as soon as possible in the electric demon level. But don't give up, try again! I'm also thinking of doing this game and some competition would be great. For anyone wondering, the fire and suicide jutsus seem to be the same strength. The suicide jutsu doesn't consume jutsu points, only extra lives. But you still need to have a jutsu point to perform it.

Does that also go for Revenge of Shinobi? I thought the suicide was more powerful.

Haven't played RoS, so I cannot say how it works in that game. But it should be pretty easy to check against any boss.

I whipped up what the first level could have been like. It's improved 13 seconds. I end with less shuriken and only one jutsu, but there's plenty of shuriken in the autoscrolling stages, and you have to use your extralives for SOMETHING (i.e blowing yourself to atoms). The movie suffered desynch, so you'll have to play it from savestate (beginning of first level, no intro). :( The framecount is still accurate as far as I can tell. 133an.sytes.net/~truncated/shinobi3.gs0 133an.sytes.net/~truncated/test.gmv I do two stupid jumps in the start: I should have jumpkicked on the way down, then there is no landing animation and you can run directly. Also I should have whacked the two ninjas throwing shuriken after me so I wont have to stop. Possibly it's better to waste a second to kill the enemy just before the first chasm too, so you can make a further jump (climbing is slow). So there is still much room for improvement. Come on now Neofix, you can do it. :) Edit several months later: Bah, why didn't anyone tell me I spelled the link wrong? Should be working now.

I don't think this movie should be published. As I wrote in the previous message, I improved the first level by 13 seconds, even though I was could only use two buttons at the same time. This should give a hint that this movie isn't very well played. Even the regular speedrun at SDA is faster than this video in some places. (E.g jumps over the chasm before first boss instead of climbing.)

If what Truncated is saying is true, then why is this being queued for encoding? Bisqwit?

Because I somehow missed all the negative feedback when I scanned the queue for submissions to process. I can still cancel it.

Sorry to bump this after so long, but I just sort of stumbled over it in the "Submissions" dealie on the main part of the site. Now, I'll be brief. As stated in my Shinobi II thing, "This isn't played on the hardest mode. Using 00 Shurikens makes things harder." So. . .impress me. Play this game using 00 Shurikens. If I can beat Expert Mode using just the sword and jump-kicks(and the occasional Jitsu), you can damn well do it using Save States and other forms of manipulation, and do it fifty times more efficently than I can. =P
I'm not that hard to find... if you know where to look. -=( http://jolikmc.tumblr.com )=-

I was thinking of doing this game as my next project. Would you really want to see it with 0 shurikens? The only difference would be a slower first level, either to pick up more shuriken or to avoid more enemies. After the second level autoscroller you would have more shuriken than you would ever use anyway, so it doesn't enter into the rest of the game. Personally I think playing it on hard would be enough. But I would like to hear people's opinion on this. Another thing, I'm not sure what's harder on hard mode really. Is it just that you have less health? Then that doesn't matter either since there's never any point in getting hit.
