History

history Metal Slug - Super Vehicle-001 (c) 1996 Nazca.
A scrolling 'run-and-gun' platform game for one or two players, Metal Slug is a humorous parody of war and specifically of World War II and the Nazis.
The game features six enemy-packed levels, referred to as 'missions'. Players start the game armed only with a pistol, but extra weapons can be picked up and used for greater firepower. Also, at certain points during a level players will find an unused 'Super Vehicle-001' - or Metal Slug - tank which can be entered and driven. The Metal Slug is slow-moving but has very powerful weapons. If the Slug takes too many hits it will break down and start to flash, the player must then quickly exit the vehicle before it explodes. The enemy troops also have vehicles at their disposal, such as tanks, boats and helicopters.
The levels are littered with bearded hostages who, when rescued, award players with either points bonuses (in the form of medals) or weapon power-ups. Available weapons are Heavy Machine Gun, Flame Shot, Rocket Launcher and Shotgun. Hand grenades are also available.
Each level ends with at least one large enemy 'Boss' vehicle that takes many hits to destroy. Once the boss has been destroyed, bonus points are awarded for each prisoner rescued. Further bonus points are awarded if the player's Metal Slug vehicle has survived the boss battle.

Summary

MISSION 1 Get Shortgun and Mechinegun to fight with boss. Jumping over tank to avoid another tank and control the dropping place.
MISSION 2 Gun and Bombs are enough.
MISSION 3 Gun and Bombs are enough.Manipulate luck to get shortgun and mechinegun.
MISSION 4 Getting Shortgun and mechinegun.Bombs are too many.
MISSION 5 There is not many guns can be used.So dying player-1 2 lives for the dying in the MISSION 6.
MISSION 6 Add coin this time.If player-1 not die.One more group of the enemies' soldiers will climb down. Shortguns are not enough to reach the boss. The mechine gun won't disappear for waiting such a long time in metal slug 1. Hitting boss and control the way he go.
End this movie.

DarkKobold: For consistency, I'll look into this one as well.

DarkKobold: This discussion is getting out of hand - I am locking this submission, and delaying judgment until we come to consensus on using continues in arcade games.
DarkKobold: The community has spoken, and they want to decide on movies that use continues. This one was poorly received, and is being rejected... however...

If that was the case, there would have been no complaints about your previous Metal Slug X run and it would likely not have been rejected. You cannot claim to know the opinions of everyone on this site just as I can only speak for myself when I say these things.

What's the point of limiting yourself to 1 life if it's slower? Unless of course, the goal was to create a superplay which I'm sure it isn't. Btw, when will this issue be solved?

The videos on this site do not only aim entirely for speed. Entertainment is also a factor. If it's less entertaining to some due to the use of continues, then their opinions should be taken into account for that. Speed/Entertainment tradeoffs are common in TASes on this site for exactly this reason. Of course, ultimately the decision of how to create TASes falls upon the author to do as he pleases. The author should however not expect everyone to agree with his decisions.

You can say this only because you didn't see the version without continue in X.I have deleted it before I submit it.

I have seen AngerFist's Metal Slug X TAS as well as yours, and comparing the two I found his more entertaining to watch purely because you used continues and he did not.

Because it is 2-player run.Boss and some enemies have more HP.He can only use 1 frameshot to beat the boss, but in 2-player,two frameshots are not enough. Have you seen the version use two players and no death ?And in level 8,it would be more poor.

It has nothing to do with speed. Metal Slug is a game that is difficult to complete without dying in normal play, so a run that does not die is impressive to me regardless of time taken unless there are obvious wastes of it. Your run was more entertaining up until you used continues, and that completely ruined it for me. This is the point I'm trying to make.

As if you say,all the games are difficult to complete by taking no damage in normal play. No damage in a run would be impressive. So all the run cannot take damage. That's what you mean.

Why not just post the run that uses no continues or death? It seems like a more practical solution.

No. Metal Slug is not the same as every game. If you're implying that dying in Metal Slug is as easy as say, dying in a Zelda game, then you're deluding yourself. For THIS game, death looks ugly. That is not the case for every other game ever just because it is the case for this one.

Okay, now I watched most of the run (to the point where you use a continue). I have to say that the run was entertaining, but those deaths at the level 5 boss were quite ugly. Then you used a coin that you didn't really have and that felt just like cheating to me, so I stopped watching and I have to vote no.

Do you think posting a run so easy? I said the continue only in metal slug X,it isn't for others. If you still don't believe,I will make the comparation with using continue and no. That time you will see.

Oh, right, I misunderstood you then. I thought you were talking about other games. Yes, that is what I mean. A no death run of Metal Slug X would be more impressive and entertaining to me than one that uses deaths to save time, and infinitely more entertaining than one that uses a continue.

No,you are wrong.Because you haven't seen a run of 2-player by no continue in Metal Slug X.That's not entertaining. It's poor. Why not have a try yourself?only in metal slug X MISSION 5-2 at last.My comparation would be later..You may discover the problem yourself. You must wait the time getting thin, the time hitting the iron door for 8 seconds. The boss battle lack of guns. The continue in the train only regarded as player's intent.

Maybe to you. Not everyone shares your opinion and finds the same things entertaining as you do, and claiming you know better than someone else about their own opinion is insulting.

I think I have to disagree with you, since your run was entertaining to me until you died and used continues.

.....I have no words to talk about this run.I hate the continue in this run too. What I say is in Metal Slug X.You know? The continue is player's intent. If not do that,1 minutes' poor run would appear, and you don't know.

Why are we talking about Metal Slug X in this thread then? This is the first Metal Slug game, right?

Okay, I have no idea anymore about the subject this discussion. This is the submission thread of this particular Metal Slug run and I don't think anything else should be discussed here. If you still have something to say about Metal Slug X, please post it in the corresponding thread and not here, thank you.

That's not me.Somebody talk about that. And I only set this arguement. What you say "cheating" was clear at first. And it is different from Metal Slug X.And you didn't understand what I mean. I have poor English. So sorry. But I struggled to tell you some reality that this one is not the same as Metal Slug X. Edit:How did I know this game is different intention in your mind? How can I guess what you like? Now I feel falling in a trap hole.

[09:30] <Aktan> basically I can see why continues may look bad [09:30] <Aktan> but usually that's related to human skill [09:30] <Aktan> this is no human anymore [09:30] <Aktan> now I see continues as and extra feature [09:30] <Aktan> most of the time it won't help you beat the game faster [09:31] <Aktan> in the rare case it does help, I can see it being acceptable to be used [09:32] <Aktan> deathwarping imo is the same kind of powerup [09:32] <Aktan> you made a warp from death [09:32] <Aktan> wow =p [09:33] <Aktan> hell deathwarping humans can easily do ... [09:55] <Aktan> basically your thought process is stuck to a human playing, when it's not [09:55] <Aktan> this is what I think is "killing" the enjoyment really [09:55] <Aktan> and solely that
