I tried downloading several of the past versions of VBA onto a new laptop, and whenever I load a ROM (the above are the only ones I have access to ATM), I just get a white screen. I've tried all 4 different rendering options, but nothing changes. The laptop is running vista with all pertinent updates (as far as I know), and I've never had a problem like this on my home laptop. Any ideas why I can't see any graphics? EDIT: Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap works perfectly with all video rendering settings.

Could anyone else check and see if these two ROMs (v1.1) work with their copy of VBA? I've tried the three most recent rerecording versions and the standard non-RR version, without success, however the ROMs play fine on my DS and through NO$GBA on the same laptop.

This is a well known bug. Delete your save file and set Save Type to Flash 128K.

Ah, cool! Kind of an odd bug, but the workaround is easy enough. Thanks p4wn3r!

No bug, the Pokémon games are a rarity that require 128K Flash SRAM

Bug in the sense that VBA doesn't automatically recognize that requirement and switch it accordingly. Or is there no flag in the ROM data to signal which type of SRAM is used?

^ | | | What he said. I'm not sure if there's something for SRAM specification in GBA ROMs, but surely, starting it up with the wrong save settings shouldn't stop the game from loading. Last time I checked, newer versions of VBA could start the ROM with Flash 64K (the game would be unable to save though). With VBA 1.8, this issue was removed. The rerecording branch, however, started from an older version, so we have to get the correct settings manually.

Super Mario Bros. 3 uses Flash 128k, mostly for e-Reader levels.
