Very short WIP until meeting with Garstein, using Bizhawk 1.7.3 on compatibility core. So it won't cause much trouble if I don't use the performence core, right?
I'm going to collect all MP orbs to shave off the time on boss fights. Probably I'll also collect all the weapons on the way.
Okay, I want to edit the movie to fix a little mistake but I don't know how. Opening it with Notepad+ only crashes the content. Any way to do it?
Also, currently I can't find the way to make through the place covered with lava (video) without ice boots. I tried taking damages and refilling the VI with item, but I died right before the exit (so close like 0.5 second). I have to come up with alternative idea.
I can make a video of skipping the ice boots if you want. It'll just take a minute.
Edit: Ok, done! Youtube framerate limitations make the character appear invisible, but you can see where I am from the light circle.

Comments copy/pasted from youtube description:
"This is on the highest difficulty, so chest contents might be different. I think lower difficulties have a second chest at the very top. I also grabbed the HP max up earlier in the chapter so I can survive this."
I haven't had a chance to watch your WIP, but I suspect that the reason you couldn't make it is because you skipped the HP max up? It really is trivial making it through with 4 health, so that must be the reason. It is significantly faster to grab the HP max than to get the ice boots, and that HP max should allow you to damage boost more in later chapters so it should pay off.
Yeah, I skipped the HP upgrade so I can't use your method. Thankfully, I found the way to cross the lava without hp upgrades.

Basically, I abused the fact that damage taken from bat is much smaller than lava. So do you think this is faster or taking HP max and considering damage boost on later part will pay off more?
Oh nice, that's a clever way to do it!
I would be surprised if the HP upgrade didn't save time later in the run, but I do think there's a possibility to avoid a lot of damage by abusing enemy hitstun. I'd say skip it for now and see how things play out.
I couldn't connect this week, sorry about the encode. Fixed now.
About the progress. I saved a number of frames on boss fight not only because better luck, but because of the fact that after the boss fight staying still is a lot faster than moving. It looks like presenting player movement and boss defeat animation simultaneously triggers huge lags, even though I can't observe it on the lag counter. So sadly, I had to give up making funny movement I originally planned.
Also I found that following cutscene with guardian can be done faster by locating the player and Garstein (the partner) in proper position. The way to save time here is pretty confusing to understand so I'm stuck now. Gotta take some time.
On stage 2, it looks linear as stage 1 and has no orb to collect, so I think it won't be troubling except boss fights.

Note that sloppy boss fight is just for test.
I finished platforming at stage 2 until meeting with princess Elikshil and Gordon. There wasn't special about this stage; I grabbed stage needed and skipped the HP upgrade again (there's no MP upgrade on this stage). Enemy luck was good, too.
Now I'm up to three consecutive boss fights: Gordon, 4 knights & dark dragon. As all of them are weak against fire guardian attack, so MP management is crucial for this. Luckily, there's Sage Stone before the knights fight which refills the MP, so I have 8 MP in total. Also, I expected to spend 2 MP on Gordon fight but as you can see on WIP, I think it's enough with 1 MP.
So uh, somehow I got time to put my hand on this, and right stuck into the boss fights.
The second boss fight where you have to fight 4 knights, unlike the one in stage 1, is very hard to optimize because they're constantly moving and dispersing pretty fast (charging attack is weak to them, full charge would damage one 16). I know that each enemy HP is 64 and fire guardian shoots five fireball which damages them 19 each. Any suggestion how to deal with this?
Oh, and here's WIP if you want to know the progress but it didn't change a lot.

Will it be possible to do 3 strikes with the fire guardian to damage all 4 of the knights with all 3 strikes? Then in between the fire guardian strikes you hit each knight for 7 damage.
Might be a better way, perhaps you can connect a hit with several knights if you can line them up.
The effectiveness of this approach depends on if you can use fire guardian strike 3 times, and how long the cool down is for it.
But with my limited knowledge of the game that feels like the best strategy right now.
Okay, this is improved one I made today.

The enemy move is like this:
1. They gather to the center and spread like '+'.
2. Then they circle around the player with fixed radius and tries to attack.
There're more of them but don't matter; I can still beat all of knights even before showing off the move.
I don't like that I have to summon guardian 3rd time because I need only 2 more fireballs. But as it's still faster than sword, I guess there's no other way.
If you're asking if fireball can attack multiple enemies at once, it cannot unfortunately. It attacks only one.
As you can see on the video, they gather for only short time so sword won't reach it. I'll try again though, appreciate your suggestion.
If I can't find any improvement, I'll stick to this.

I misunderstood the fireball.
IF you can charge up a sword attack while using the guardian, this might be possible:
(If not, skip the rest of this post)
To skip using the guardian a 3rd time, your initial strike as they gather will have to be for 10 damage, from the sounds if it there might not be enough time. Begin charging your 2nd sword attack, then use two guardian attacks which shall leave you with 2 knights with 16 health each, then release the sword attack.
I am not sure though if this strategy would be faster than using the guardian for the 3rd time, unless the time lost is saved by not having to collect more MP. I don't really understand how MP works in this game.
