You mean having lower health actually helps against them? IIRC, 2 scrolls also teach them a lesson. I haven't been able to see your run yet, so I don't know if you've got any available to use.

I would like to see you go to stage 5-3 as small Mario, do the power-up-and-die trick there, then complete that stage when you reenter it. With all the glitches you're demonstrating, I was surprised you left that out. Also, try to complete one of the mini-fortresses, stepping left and right above or beneath a Boo Diddly to show it screwing up. I'd like to see that, too. Oh, and one more idea, I don;t know how far you got in World 6, but maybe you could do the stage right after the second mini-fortress with a P-Wing and fly under it. Few people seem to know about that.

I'll check out those vids in a moment. I just did a little more research on that bug video I posted. Here are a few snaps to show something. The first 2 pics show when the color of the boss's lifeline changes (and when it loads the color scheme for the next group of enemies, according to your info). The next set shows frame by frame something that might explain those mirages of Mega Man at the end of the Ice Man battle in the TAS. As you likely know, when Mega Man is armed with the Cut Blade, Elec Beams break apart when they hit him. Taking a closer look, a couple fragments at first appeared where they shouldn't have. Since the Elec Beam was used to melt Ice Man, even though I don't recall it breaking, it may have tried to load those fragments, but loaded Mega Man as the image instead. Just a thought until you guys hack and find the real answer. The last couple pics show the sliding bug. Each of the 2 movements last 7 frames. I didn't think to record the pixel-by-pixel movement amounts, so I don't know the exact stepping speed. LINK: http://www.geocities.com/kolechovski/MM/MMsnaps.zip

"However, the game may crash soon thereafter, because boss fights weren't written to handle screen scrolling." -I wouldn't be surprised if it crashed, but in the Wily stages, you screen-wrap your way past the bosses, so wouldn't you just be running around below, while Elec Man fires his beam above, in his room? If so, you could always reenter his room, and the battle would restart the right way. -If the game would actually try to bring Elec Man with you, would the game really crash, or would it just pull stunts similar to MM2, where the boss gets all glitchy? You may have noticed that when you fall back down, Elec Man's lifeline begins filling, 2 or 3 units (I'm not sure why it varies), before you make it back up. Since it's too soon for Elec Man to have gone through the process, how does the game define his existence at this moment, while you're on the screen below? Does it instantly place him in his spot, with his pose finished? Or does it leave him non-existent? And one more question about what I've noticed during the screen switch, including in MM2...why does the boss lifeline change color during screen switches?

Nicely done. As for improving those, you could just use copy-pasting after the Planet 1 improvement, so you wouldn't have to redo Planet 2 all over again.

Hmm, maybe that's a little different then. I screwed more with MM2 than MM1. In MM2, even after you climb down a ladder, and the screen scrolls, you can hang on to the air until you try to move.

Hey, even though there are old posts, I just wanted to make sure a few things were clear. First, I don't know of any warp in Level 1 that leads to Level 7, though it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I never hacked it, so I don't know. There is the moving warp in the upper left that leads to a bonus stage. Another warp that I haven't seen mentioned is the one on planet 6. It leads to 9 or 10, but for a time-run, it is not recommended bothering with.

"Besides Elecman, the only other boss fight that has nonzero forced P1 input (all other fights have forced idle) is Bombman. Bombman's room forces P1 input of DOWN. " -what about the second Wily level, when you climb down into the room where the clone appears? After the screen scrolls down, and the battle music starts, you drop off, so isn't DOWN being forced there, too? As for strange beginning to the Elecman battle, I've been trying a long time, but still haven't found a way to force the screen to scroll up without being in front of the ladder. I'd like to know what would happen if you fell back down, but weren't next to the ladder to grab on to. Would you get stuck at the bottom, with the game trying to constantly make you climb forever, or would it try to make you climb those first couple seconds, then give control back to you after Elec Man's lifeline fills? Looks like fron the video you showed, you would regain control, but I'm not sure when the forced input gets disabled.

The video desyncs inside the castle, but up to then was pretty good.

I'll have to wait a short bit for one of your past movies to finish playing so I have Gutsman's weapon by the time I'm at the top of the tower. In the mean time, I'll let you ponder something else. You've likely noticed that Rockman's position shifts a bit when a moving platform changes direction in games 1 and 2. I couldn't track all the details in the code that you posted, but what causes his X position to change? Does it have something to do with Rockman's momentum?

Hang on...hey, BTW, if anybody can figure out how to record Nesticle output to an MPEG or AVI, it would make things much easier, as that's usually the emu I use when I find these things.

Well those discoveries were quite refreshing! I am still wondering though, how the Y position causes the false intro of the Elec Man battle, specifically, making the screen scroll up at that point.

The easiest way I think was to warp to Portoa and sail east...or maybe it is closer to Romaly. I think it's somewhere around the middle between those 2 places.

I couldn't view the video, but thinking about Mega Man physics, does your turtle start zipping when it gets stuck in the ceiling?

I did some more checking on that Fan Fiend glitch...turns out that the left-right movement has no effect on it...instead, it's always something with those birds, as they're always on the screen when the Fan Fiends disappear. I've also found some other bugs, none of which are useful in a TAS, while I was making damage tables for my web site. The first I've found was a very long way to kill the wall monster at the end of Level 2, by tricking it into going in the pit. I also found in doing so, not only do you appear one screen above where you schould when you die off the top of the screen, but you also end up there when you teleport up off the top. The second...I don't know what happened. I was updating my save state as I went along to make it easier to do the damage table thingy. When I reloaded from it upon entering level 3, all the graphics got glitched. They corrected themselves after beating level 3. I am wondering if the savestate being made during a screen transition had anything to do with it. Does anyone know why this happened? The final bug I found was during the Heat Man battle in level 5. By now, you likely know that Crash Bombs aren't a good weapon against him. I got some strange reactions when I used them on him after he got hit. Hitting him with Crash Bombs right after a normal hit causes him to reset his flaming animation. Hitting him when he shoots towards you seems to confuse him, as he starts zipping back and forth, even into the walls. Examples of all bugs can be found in the link below. They're Mega Man 2, Nesticle videos. http://www.geocities.com/kolechovski/mm2/morebugs.zip

Replicated on Rockman 2, though different... http://www.geocities.com/kolechovski/fanfiend.zip this time, the birdies made it disappear while it was on screen... oh, I also forgot to mention, on Rockman 2, that scroll on-and-off thing didn't work for me either. As for the turn-around way of doing it, I also remember being blown until it disappeared, then quickly running forward, but that doesn't seem to work here, either. Well, Bablo, thanks for the link...too bad this thing doesn't have the needed codec, and since it's a lab computer, I can't install it.

IIRC, I may have even done it without lag...suddenly turning back and forth a few times right when it appears. I don't remember the details, but it was rather doable without much trouble.

So what do you think...will it be worth it in the TAS? Even if not in every area, I saw at least one area where it should be a help.

Well, like I said, that videodesynced, so I don't know how the Shredder fight went, but I guess it doesn;t matter then.

I failed to make it happen, but it was listed in an old issue on Nintendo Power as doable. A neat thing, you can jump up with half of your body going through the wall at the top. Because the video did not survive to the Shredder fight, I don;t know how you did it, but I remember a bug that I accidentally found that got Shredder stuck. I even had Mikey just start whacking him for fun, finishing him, but since my saves got corrupted, I can't go back and look how it was done. If you can recreate this, you'll likely save good time.

I know what it's like not having enough time, but just do it a chunk as you go. I doubt anybody ever did these movies in long segments. We're anxiously awaiting.

Sorry I've been away for so long...issues...anyways, I'm surprised finalfighter just found that height bug shown at the end of the Woodman stage. I've had that in several of my videos from a while back. IIRC, each time you jump, or every 2 times you jump, I forget which, you move down a block. Also, about the Fan Fiends in the Air Man stage...I notice you spend a bit of time fighting them. Wouldn't it be faster just to scroll them off the screen?
