I wonder how hard it this would be to program. Unlike button presses that TAS use in order to fully play the game it would to be able to beat it starting from any savestate. Imagine sometime in the distant future a computer that can make a perfect TAS of any game ever created.

I want to see a TAS of one of the sonic advance games espically since there is a greater sense of speed in them than the originals. Sonic Advance 3 would be the best one to make a TAS for since it is viewed as the best sonic advance game but Sonic Advance 2 could be interesting as well since it is the fastest sonic game ever.

Many people aren't interested in making a TAS because of the precison required when playing a game frame by frame or at reduced speed. They could make a speedrun of it instead but it is very hard to make a full game non-segmented speedrun without any mistakes and it takes alot of constant play time. What I suggest is to let this site accept speedruns where the only emulator tool used is savestates. This type of movie would probably be the easiest make since it takes the hardest parts out of speedrunning and TAS.

Now it went up to over 100 KB/S but then dropped all the way down to 1 KB/S. I have never seen anything like this happen before.

I tried downloading it again and it started off at around 40 KB/S but then it started dropping down to 1-10 KB/S. I guess I should have started the download sooner after making this topic. I didn't cancel the download though because I am hoping the speed will go up again.

What are these automatic seed programs. I thought only people downloading a file could seed it.

I tried downloading the second Donkey Kong Country video (the one that is 25:19 long) but it was only downloading at 1 KB/S so I canceled it. I need some more people to seed it so I can download it faster.

To bad there aren't any DS emulators out yet and even when they do come out it will be a while before they have the tools to create TAS. I wonder how you would optimize line drawing.

Bisqwit how do you know what the size of the avi file will be if the TAS doesn't have one. If you know the exact size of those TAS without an avi file could you please post them so that way I can see how big they would be compared to other avi files on this site.

One of the reasons that a TAS hasn't been done for this game is because even though it is a good game it wouldn't be that interesting to watch. Watching someone play time attack mode for each level wouldn't be that interesting and watching a video of grand prix would be almost the same. The only difference would be taking a few seconds at the beginning of the race to get in first place and once you are in first place making sure no one hits you with an item or passes you. What I suggest is playing grand prix mode but when the race starts don't press any buttons for a certain amount of time so that the AI racers get a head start. Try to make this head start as long as possible while still winning the race. This would make a much more interesting TAS to watch since you would have to use more items and you would have to deal with the other racers positions more (instead of just at the beginning of the race). If anyone is planning on making a TAS of this game I hope you consider this idea.

NintenDan if the only thing that is stopping you from making a TAS why don't you just read the FAQ on this site. It explains all that you need to know to make one and there are plenty of people here to help you as well. If you are going to make a regular speed run of a sonic advance game you make it segmented instead of playing it all in one sitting since you can get better times that way. The only advantage of a non-segmented run would be the impressiveness from knowing it was done that way but a segmented run would be much better to watch since the times for each level would be closer to the world records.

For most movies on this site you can either download an avi file through bittorrent or an emulator movie file. For a few movies though you don't have the option of downloading an avi file. I am assuming that this is because the author of the movie didn't submit one. If this is the only reason couldn't someone just convert all of the emulator files into avi files.

The only time I have heard of luck manipulation being used besides in TAS was in Golden Sun to get a certain item. Are there any other games that you can manipulate luck in without using tools.

Technically knuckles isn't climbing up the wall. He is just jumping off of it and then gliding to a higher point on the wall. This method is a little faster than climbing it normally but is still nothing compared to the speed of a tag action high jump. I would like to see you try to find one level in this game (excluding bosses) that can be completed the fastest using the knuckles and tails team. Most bosses can probably be completed faster by using a team other than sonic and tails but I don't know any good strategies for beating the bosses quickly. Does anyone have any ideas of what teams would be better for the bosses. Cream and sonic would probably work well for a few of them (creams attack and sonics tag action to get to the boss quickly) but there are probably other factors to consider as well.

xebra, you seem to have an unfounded personal vendetta against the Sonic Center and are spreading bad rumours that can't be challenged since nobody from there comes here (apparently). I don't agree that members of TSC were known "more for their immaturity than their integrity" - I'd like to see evidence backing this up. I highly doubt that any of the Sonic 1 times were faked or cheated. It appears to be your condescending personality, rather than the collective immaturity of the whole sonic center, which is causing these views - your blind accusations of cheating with no evidence, as well as the way you p*ssed someone off in the sonic 2 thread are examples.
Though I'm sure he will deny it, I provided SadisticMystic with incontrovertible proof that FoxLuc entered false times. He banned me. The admins at TSC had no thought for fair competition, and as far as I'm concerned the entire community is corrupt. So stick that up your tailpipe and smoke it. As for the little spat Quietust and I had in the Sonic 2 thread, that's none of your damned business. People sometimes get frustrated with each other and we worked through it like civilized individuals.
I would really like to see some proof of this since I have been going to soniccenter for a while (until it shutdown) and I haven't heard anything about this. Even if this is true (which I highly doubt) the actions of one person don't represent the whole community. From my experience there most of the people who submited fake times were caught. The people there had some sort of method to determine if a time was fake or not but wouldn't reveal it to the public because it would make it easier for cheaters to fake times. There were also many videos submitted to prove the times were real.

In the knuckles and tails team knuckles can't climb walls any faster when partnered with tails. The only time knuckles can climb walls faster is when partnered with amy. None of this matters though because using tag action high jump is still faster than any wall climbing methond. I can't think of a single time in this game where I have had to climb a wall since the tag action high jump is always faster.

The knuckles and sonic team is one of the worst ones in the game. The tails and sonic team is better than it in every way. The only thing the knuckles and sonic team can do that no other teams can is the forward boost attack while in air but tails flying is much better. Knuckles can't even climb while in this team. The knuckles and tails team may seem better than sonic and tails but it is really not. You never really need to use knuckles climbing ability or gliding ablilty since any team with tails as a partner you can fly and use tag action high jump which is much faster than climbing. Since knuckles is slower than sonic and can't get boost mode the sonic and tails team is better. So far these are the only teams that I have found to be better than sonic and tails on certain levels: Tails and Sonic (Sunset Hill 1 and 2) Sonic and Cream (Cyber Track 1) Cream and Amy (Chaos Angel 3)

All soniccenter records can be found at http://www.gdward.plus.com/soniccenter/ Keep in mind these records are somewhat out of date.

Anyone interested in doing a tool assisted speed run of this game. This is the most popular Soinc Advance game so I think it would be the best one make a run of. I recomend using the team sonic and tails since they are the fastest in most levels thanks to the tag action high jump and since only a team with sonic in it can get boost mode. I have a few time attack world records in this game so I could give out some strategies for a few levels if anyone is interested.
