A watermark is an image that is superimposed over the video file as a whole. It would be present the whole entire time, so it would be a pretty big distraction. If it's only there for a few seconds at a time, it will do nothing more than the spontaneous disclaimers we put in now. On top of that, including a watermark would only drive people to simply encode their own movies from the ROM/input files, which will effectively bypass any intro/disclaimer currently published movies will have. All in all, the watermark is a useless idea. It will do nothing more than intrude on published avis whilst driving thieves to simply bypass all current disclaimers. I also don't see our videos being 'stolen' as much as people seem to think. What I do see being passed off as others' work can be easily debunked.

Not many. You've only been here a few months so shut the fuck up and get back in the gas chamber.

This is retarded. If we put a watermark in there, it will only drive people to encode their own movies for dispersal. A watermark will do nothing but clutter up the videos. What we do now (put disclaimers all over the video) is enough that we get the point across without intruding too much. In the long run, it is probably the most we can do without restricting submission views.

It's possible, sure, but it's also not necessary. You do realize that what we publish here is currently the SDA standard for high quality, right?

I think that the quality between each of the avis is good enough that I've never once noticed any of these problems. The great thing about this site is that if someone doesn't like the avi quality, they can always just get the ROM and watch a lossless replay. Don't misconstrue that and think that I'm saying "avis are good enough and if you don't like it don't watch em," though: at some point avis must pass some sort of minimum quality. That being said, I don't think any of the files are in such a shape that they would need to be re-encoded. However, I would love it if encoders would run their movies by a few people so that we can catch any typos or lack of text things in the movie files. This is partly because of when Phil misspelled my name in the Nosferatu video, but also because of a recent few movie files (like the Jaws movie, which beats the game in 13.33.13 apparently).

He's only about 15% done at the adult wallet. Though, now that the Goron Mask is collected and the Song of Soaring is about to get gottenified, things will start speeding up dramatically.

Oh snap, more passive political commentary from Serj. Weren't you going to kill yourself when all of your freedoms were taken away by the Great Satan?

I can't see any reason to use SRAM just to make a movie longer.

Someone makes a good improvement to a great movie and you all start whining because he didn't mention the saved time and you have to do a little work?
You're right, making a valid complaint should instantly be dismissed as whining. 10 seconds of additional text on the submitter's part sounds more logical than making everyone who watches the submission go back to the N64 movies page and calculate the difference in time. That's just me, though; maybe you like inefficiency?

Oh, I knew that much. I just didn't appreciate having to check what the improvement was on my own time. My time is very precious, you see.

Not mentioning by what extent you improved over a movie you are attempting to obsolete should be an instant rejection.

You never said good games, just games. Deus Ex stays. As for Hexen, I made mention of when you're switching items. It turn the top 20-25% of your screen in to a big bar of items. That, mixed with a weapon that takes 20-30% of the screen from the bottom and a randomly placed health/mana bar leads to some great moments. The N64 version is a bit better with this, but... eh.

Example of 3-4 games with more cluttered HUDs please.
Deus Ex 2 Thief 2 UT 2004 MPQ (the one that played a lot like Tribes) Hexen when you're switching items Tribes if you're a nooblet In actuality, though, none of these games can compete with the overall useless clutter that is MP1. The game has more crap on screen at one time than a complex battle in Phantasy Star.

This could definitely be improved. The boss fights are of the utmost concern, with a little attention needed in the extermination levels. Voting Meh.

If you expect the viewer to have a working emulator and the rom around, then we need a new definition of "first time viewer".
See the word "plus" there? It means "in addition to," which means that the words preceding it are also valid. That being said, UK is a short and amusing clip. You can follow it easily, and it's not that hard to appreciate it for what it is. ON TOP OF THAT, if you try it out (which you are advised to do), you will gain an even deeper admiration for the run.

I guess it's just me then. When I play SMB2, I get the feeling that I'm just playing a cartoonish version of SMB3. FINE KEEP THE STAR SEE IF I CARE! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT JXQ!

You should definitely work on your prose and syntax. I suggest you pick up The Brief English Handbook by Dornan and Dawe if you plan to stick with this. Otherwise, the story was... eh. Exposition, as fun as it may be, is not the best way to get readers excited about your story. Maybe if you gave a more enticing passage as a taste of your work, you might garner more interest all around.

Super Mario Bros 2: I disagree here, the SMB2 run has enough variation and good glitches to make it entertaining.
At what point do we draw the line when it comes to "this Mario game is different enough?" Like I said, SMB2 is just SMB3 but with more characters and less entertainment.

Super Punch Out!: Hmm... Maybe when hell freezes over? No star for this one.
Reason? I find each fight to be entertaining in its own sort of "how will he KO this guy?" fashion. SPO! is probably one of my most watched runs on the site.

Bionic Commando: Zurreco, I'll fight you forever on keeping this star :D
Aside from great music and a cool jumping glitch, what is so great about this run? I played the game back in the day, and watching the run never took me aback.

Umihara Kawase: Yes I know it's got neat physics. It's still the lamest run since lame came to lame town. Go watch Ninja 5-0 if you want some more realistic swinging skills than Bionic Commando.
While it isn't the coolest run on the site, it's very nice to watch. Especially considering how short it is. Plus, if you follow the advice of the publication text and try the game out a bit, it instantly becomes very impressive.

River City Ransom: What exactly is appealing to a newcomer about this outdated run?
"BARF!" The great usage of items and speedy attacks made this a very fun watch for me. It's improvable, so I guess you could de-star this with the hopes of starring an improved version/the GBA version. Other than that, everyone kinda agrees with the general thought of ditching S3&K, upgrading to CV4, and implementing some more entertaining material, right?

Eh. That was aimed more at the game than the run, though the run was pretty bad. Also, who on Earth would take offense at something from the internet? Seriously...

Ah, but when you say "everyone else," that means "everyone except the person that I just spoke to." I would fit in to that category, so it does apply to me (though incorrectly). Agree?

OK, I'm going to request some redistribution of stars. Feel free to accept/refute/whatever these ideas. I currently think that there are too many "franchised stars." That being said, the following starred movies should be destarred, so as to add more flavor and distribution to the recommended movies:
  • Sonic 3 and Knuckles: while it is a great run, I don't think it should really be recommended to first time viewers. Too much is going on in such a fast paced game, and it offers nothing of base entertainment that the Sonic 2 run doesn't already offer.
  • Super Mario Bros 2: SMB2 is basically SMB3 but with grabbing stuff and less entertainment.
  • Castlevania: I feel that this could be replaced with the better looking/sounding Castlevania 4
  • Bionic Commando/HnF: a fairly outdated run that could be replaced with a handful of other runs. This one I'm on the fence about.
  • Legend of Zelda: Since we are already using a much more entertaining A Link to the Past in the queue, I don't see what LoZ has to offer new viewers.
I would love to see the following runs starred at some point in the future:
  • Castlevania 4: already stated
  • Super Punch Out!: a very fast paced and variable run.
  • Gimmick: Either run for this game is very entertaining.
  • The Lost Vikings: The only 3 player run on the site. Also one of the most entertaining.
  • Harmony of Dissonance: IRC goers are saying that HoD should replace Circle of the Moon. I think that, if anything, they would compliment eachother as recommended runs.
  • Boulder Dash: A very simple puzzle game made insanely complex by CAD.
Thoughts?
