The main Pokemon also needs enough Base HP to gain 1 HP with an HP Up at Fortree.
In the run, Marshtomp had 7 HP Ev before taking HP Up, so the Pokemon needs to gain 1 HP with 8-15 HP Evs at Lv 30-35.
Marshtomp has 80 Base HP, and Swellow 70, so Swellow should work.
Also, would Pokerus be useful or not ?
You would need less criticals with a stronger Pokemon (more damage, stronger moves earlier), but the experience gain animation would be longer (more text with "bonus", and more experience).
I'm pretty sure Pokérus doesn't cause you to gain more EXP. You gain 2x EV points from each defeated poke, but not more EXP. Perhaps you were confusing it with the Lucky Egg?

First thing that I want to say, I am 1 of 2 runners of this game and this tas is great. The 2 new skips that were found (Robot fight 2 & Rhynopede skip) are absolutely awesome. This time around the route is much cleaner, but I think it still could be better, but not by much. It would be really hard to think of a better route, and still it would only make a ~10 second difference or so, which is good seeing how there are so many damn gems to collect in this game. That is the only downfall that I see in this tas. When the runner submitted his old run, I didn't tell him any of the tricks that he didn't use because I thought he was finished with the game or something, but in this improved version of the run he managed to find all and more of the tricks I didn't inform him about, which is very impressive. The runner put a lot of work into this run, and I am happy to say that this is the attack of the rhynocs run that I have been wanting for a long time. I am going to vote yes. Thanks for making this tas.
^^Awesome review, man. Just awesome.
Also, @got4n: the encode is meant to end when the credits fade out. I'm sorry if,you just left it running, but yeah, just a little nitpick...

Awwwww... Thanks, guys!
I'm glad you all like this run. It was inevitable that I would improve it, seeing how much of a piece of crud the old run was (lol).
P.s. Anyone making a temp?

You can always rename your movie:
movie.bk2 >>> movie.zip
or
movie.lsmv >>> movie.zip
Then, extract the contents, edit everything you want and, at the end, compact the files. Make sure to compact the files, not the external folder that contains them.
That's what I've just done - and lo and behold, it worked!!
I couldn't get adelikat's method to work because my 7-Zip doesn't allow me to drag-&-drop files. Weird...
Thanks for the help anyway. I'll submit once I finish the submission text.

It should work fine.
I do this all the time with 7z file manager. I drag the file out to a folder, edit it, and drag & drop it back in, and say yes that I want to replace the file that was in there.
...That's what I was trying to do... I think.
I'll try again when I get the chance. If it still doesn't work, I may have to elaborate a little. I'm not in a hurry to submit or anything - heck, I haven't even finished the submission text yet.

To clarify, the actual archive format of the bk2 is in fact zip; fully compliant, fully standard.

One musical idea related to tas.
There is a master system rom called color and switch test, that allow you to test the controller and it play sounds as test it.

One thing we could try is to load another game imput but use the color and switch rom to see what it would play.
Or you could do something similar to the NES Test TAS and play tunes on it.
I have no idea what that would sound like (because the video doesn't show off the sounds) but it seems to me like a good idea for a joke TAS.
P.S. I hope True notices this.

Hello. I have recently completed a TAS in BizHawk of a GBA game, but it was recorded with the BIOS intro because I used BizHawk 1.8.0. When I started the TAS, I did not consider this to be a problem, but now that I have have completed it, I want to edit the .bk2 in order to 'cut out' the BIOS intro and save frames. What I wish to do is:
1. Extract the contents of the .bk2.
2. Edit Sync Settings.json to change "SkipBios" from false to true.
3. Delete the first 274 frames (approx.) in the Input Log so that the movie syncs.
4. Put the files back in the .bk2 archive.
However:

As a work around until then you can open the bk2 with an archive tool (7z recommended), extract the SyncSettings file and find performance and change it to compatibility then put the file back into the archive.
7-Zip does not allow me to do that, because it does not support that particular format. Once I have extracted a file, I cannot put it back in. Instead, it asks me if I want to replace over the .bk2 itself (which I don't want).
(The program only supports common formats: .7z, .tar, .rar, etc.)
I am currently unsure what to do about this. If anyone is able to help me, please reply. Otherwise, I may have to submit the movie in its unedited state.

Okay, I can't go with the branch name "Mokujin" can we just simply call the branch "playround"?
Yes, I'm requesting someone to think about the branch name.
Playaround, it's what all the other fighting game 'for entertainment' TASes use.
And it certainly doesn't aim for speed.

I'm sorry, but I'm voting No on this one.
This game is practically the same thing as Super Mario Bros. All-Stars, except that you play as Sonic and the physics are broken.
Better dump this one in the Vault, guys.

Quoting something I posted in another thread:
That's funny, because I've found some RTA's of the NES Mega Man games on YouTube which are blocked on mobile devices. I'm guessing it's because Capcom (or rather, Suleputer) may have released the soundtracks on CD.
The way it goes, is that this affects TASVideosChannel's YT encodes as well as the RTA videos. Yesterday, I tried to watch the Published run of Mega Man (the 12-minute run, not the game end glitch one) on my iPad, but it's blocked on mobile devices.
It says something like this:
"The content owner has not made this video available on mobiles. Add it to a playlist to watch it later on a PC."
The most likely reason for this is copyrighted music, as I stated before.
I hope this information helps!

Has anyone managed to get speeds higher than 252 (address 0x40, which I think is speed)?
$40 is speed, yes, but because the system is 8-bit, you can't have a value greater than 255 anyway. Even if you could get 254 (the game only allows even values of speed), I don't think it would be enough to save a timer increment.
@thommy3: That IS the whole game. In terms of length, it's in between Death Star Battle and King's Bounty.

Right, I've had a look through the threads you guys linked. This evening, I'll compare Samsara's run with mine and see if I can improve it.
EDIT: I've decided to give up, because I couldn't do any better than before.

I've been trying my hand at TASing this game, using the strategy in the above video, which shows the fastest time on Scoreground.
This was the best I could do so far:
User movie #16713558867895697
As calfd mentioned in the wishlist, the actual WR is 5.51, but I'm 18 frames behind that. Unless we find the absolute fastest gear shift sequence, we're not getting anywhere near that. Because of the way the game's timer works, the next lowest time is 5.47, so good luck to anyone else who wants to try their hand at this barmy game.

<blockquote> IMPORTANT NOTE: The ending credits theme, "Simple and Clean", is a copyrighted song. So in any encodes of this run, you will need to either mute the song or replace it with something else. I personally just removed the credits entirely, since they're like 7 minutes long and really freaking boring.
This gets into the same "fair use" questions that the recent Twitch policies have raised. Technically, all of the graphics and music in a game are copyrighted, so if a Super Mario World speedrun can be muted for its use of the SMW overworld music, then technically the entire speedrun is illegal to have in video format. Almost every video on this site is breaking the law, unless a speedrun is considered a transformative work and fair use! The Tony Hawk speeduns should be muted, too!
On the other hand, it's probably a lot harder to argue that the use of the credits music in the credits is fair use, since no gameplay or transformative work happens after the end of the game (that's a speedrun's purpose).
That's funny, because I've found some RTA's of the NES Mega Man games on YouTube which are blocked on mobile devices. I'm guessing it's because Capcom (or rather, Suleputer) may have released the soundtracks on CD.
Anyway, back on topic: I've seen the first 6 worlds in the WIPs, but I'll have to wait for an encode before I can see the last two. Then I'll be able to give this one a vote.
