The first one is good. I would hands-down vote for the 3rd one if there wasn't a green graphical error at the right edge (part of the game, not the image).
WOW, I GUESS WE HAVE ALL BEEN FORGETTING THAT IT IS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE TO WATCH A SUBMISSION AFTER IT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED. IT IS NOT LIKE YOU CAN STILL DOWNLOAD THE INPUT FILE NORMALLY OR FROM THE NEW MOVIE PAGE, AND YOU CERTAINLY AREN'T ADDITIONALLY ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE MOVIE IN AVI OR MKV FORMAT ONCE IT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED. SERIOUSLY ONCE THE MOVIE IS PUBLISHED NOBODY CAN WATCH IT EVER AGAIN. AND, IN FACT, THE INPUT FILES MAGICALLY DELETE THEMSELVES FROM THE HARD DRIVES OF PEOPLE WHO MANAGED TO DOWNLOAD THEM BEFORE HAND.
Finally, it would have been nice if you had saved the clouds for autscrollers in world 8, since you already have a video showing those off. However, that isn't a negative, just a consideration.
You can't use the clouds on every auto scroller in world 8. For 1 thing, the key hole on the map screen doesn't disappear.
Also, using it in 7-4 is good, since that's an autoscroller. I believe they used it on the longest levels possible.
Wow, this game is pretty crazy to watch, it's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain! It seems like the type of game that is fun to watch someone play it, but playing it yourself would be a disaster
Awesome run Deign, I really liked your use of star transportation, and the overall pace of the run!
A big yes vote, and I believe that this sort of run is star quality. I mean, stars are everywhere in this game too!
Awesome run guys, I loved all the "acting" and speed tricks you put into it. I was surprised at the number of levels that you could skip through by walking through walls. That would have helped my first playthrough of this game 15 years ago!
1 quick question, why did you use the cloud in 7-4, but not for more warp ships? Are levels with locks not cloud-able?
Awesome run, I loved how you went "though" the window when you got the second whistle, the messed up 1up sound, going through walls, the bowser fight, the sliding glitch weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
A yes vote, and I didn't believe you could improve genisto's version by this much!
I've never played this game, but if you master this game as well as you mastered SNES Killer Instinct, I will definitely support it.
However, you should make a playaround, rather than a fastest time speedrun, like you did for Killer Instinct. Good mix of speed and showing off should be nice!
Just when I thought this Lua thing couldn't get more awesome, I realized it could be used for botting,
Reminds me of when I created this topic? I've fiddled with smw bots this LUA scripting, mainly for determining fadeout lag (pseudo code here)
while(score < MAX_SCORE){
score = 0;
save state 1 frame before the gate;
poke score with desired score;
when lagging increment a lag counter; //hard part
stop incrementing lag counter;//stop time not important as long as all lag is recorded
file I/O;
score++;
load state
}
It's touch-and-go for me to say the least, but the only thing stopping it from working perfectly were finding out how to correctly determine what a lag frame was, and make sure that the amount of lag does correspond with a "poked" score.
Also, I haven't touched my work in a while, because work has been draining my time. Also, leaving this bot on overnight when before I realized there used to be a memory leak wasn't fun.
I had the pleasure of watching this run being done through completion. I never thought ~1 second could be saved after the previous movie was completed. 1/-1 helped a lot, but there were some surprising frame savings in the ghost house! I have to vote an extremely enthusiastic yes.
I gotta be honest though, after seeing some 96 exit progress, this run pales in comparison. However, to see perfection as I have seen it, you will either have to bribe Fabian, or be very very patient!
Voting no, because I don't know why we need a European version of this game, especially if the current J/U version is faster. Do the game physics vary? You say you want this game to be published because you want it to be the first European TAS on the site? Why not choose a game that hasn't been on the site yet? Maybe I just don't understand what you are saying.
The NES sends its image to the TV at 60.0988 Hz, faster than the NTSC standard's 59.94Hz. The TV does not provide any kind of feedback back to the NES.
You know, I wonder if these numbers take into account parasitics like clock jitter/skew?
Posting a smv proof makes no sense now, as it won't be convincing anymore.
Why are you so reluctant to post the smv? It would only help justify your tasing skills in the eyes. Not posting the smv makes you look like you are a dirty, rotten, liar.
What I don't get is Saturn's incessant need to justify his own actions. Is he really that insecure?
We don't care if what you TAS is perfect or not. If it's an improvement, it's great! What we do care about is if you keep on parading your ego, saying that your work is absolutely 100% un-improvable.
What's worse is that Saturn even fails at the justification part. He has no proof, other than his own word, which is misguided by his ego.
Finally, he vehemently mocks/insults/puts-down people who tie/exceed his work. What is the purpose of this, other to satisfy his own ego? Once again, insecurity beckons at the expense of other valuable members. What a fucking crock.
Saturn, I am sorry if these words are harsh. It's just what I, and a majority of other members observe about your behavior. And I feel you need a wake-up call.
I suggest you take a good long look at yourself and your actions, and consider how other people might react to your hurtful, harsh, and arguably, immoral actions.
Sure you've done a lot for the community with your precise (but imperfect) TASing skills, but as a member you are failing.
DK64_MASTER:
That 49'15 time I got 1,5 years ago is perfect "if" not including the turn around trick in the last room.
Just like Pom's Super Mario Bros movie was not improvable until the flagpole trick came around?
You can say anything is perfect, if you discount the imperfections >_<.
N64 runs I anticipate in 2008 that will be nominated are:
Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart 64, Majora's Mask V2, and OOT V3 (V2 was rejected)
SNES runs I anticipate in 2008 that will be nominated are:
Super Mario World 96 exits V3, some Super Metriod run, perhaps a DKC run
I hope 2008 will be filled with as many surprises as 2007 did.
