Right now the best I can do is create a .7z archive, but apparently the submission instructions specify that it absolutely must belong to a .zip format, is that right? Edit: Never mind, just confused about files extensions, problem solved quickly

Winzip has been obsolete for a decade. Windows makes zips natively. Besides, doesn't 7zip make zip files? The 7 means it supports 7 different formats.

There was a point in time where Winzip was useful? I went from PKZip to Info-Zip to zlib API for my usage of zip files.

7zip can make zip files, WinRAR can make zip files, most if not all archiving tools I can think of can make zip files. And yeah, Windows can now do it natively as well.

7-Zip is a file archiver with the highest compression ratio. The program supports 7z (that implements LZMA compression algorithm), LZMA2, XZ, ZIP, Zip64, CAB, RAR (if the non-free p7zip-rar package is installed), ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM, ISO, most filesystem images and DEB formats. Compression ratio in the new 7z format is 30-50% better than ratio in ZIP format.
I count over a dozen formats.

If support for other formats, such as .7z, is relatively trivial to add to the server, I think it might be worth the effort.

I always thought the name 7-Zip was just derived from .7z.

Why wouldn't 7z be derived from 7-Zip?
