Movie information

  • This movie was made with the --no-gui argument
  • MD5 Hash: 5977fa5ecef9509e7137fb8e9dc61525
  • Warning: When many explosions sound effects play at the same time, it's really loud, I recommend lowering for this movie.

About the game and movie

Meat Boy: Map Pack is an expansion of the original Meat Boy developed by Edmund McMillen and Jonathan McEntee, with 70 new levels made by fans, all in varying difficulty (and quality).
This movie aims to complete every level and collect all 35 bandaids. There's no full 100% speedrun of this game, but there is a segmented playthrough by famous speedrunner DHA that completes the first 63 level and all the bandaids in them, which took about 28 minutes, meaning that this TAS would save at least 15 minutes over RTA play.

Notes

Projectile clip
Dispenser projectiles (salt projectiles, fireballs and sawblades) are pretty weird, for some reason, sometimes you move through them without dying, and there isn't a clear pattern if you'll survive or not, all I know is that it's more consistent on the ground.
Ceiling clip
On very rare occasions, you may slightly clip through a ceiling, this is noticeable when you see a meat spill between two blocks, this usually isn't very useful, but there are two stages where I use one.
Faster speed
Meat Boy runs at 160 units per frame, usually. There are three different faster speeds, and all of them depend on when you don't press a directional key for a single frame: First it's 175, which is what happens when you do it in the air, it's most commonly used after wall jumps. Second it's 180, which happens on the floor, it's most commonly used at the beginning of every level. The fastest speed is 195, which happens when you unpress the directional key the frame you land, unfortunately, I only understood how this last speed works in the last fifth of the game, I thought it was random before figuring it out.
Going to the next level
To move to the next level, you just have to press the "enter" key, except for Hexorz (Impossible 9), where I had to quit and choose the next level for some reason.
Ending shenanigans
I end the run only touching bandaid girl and not quitting the level, I did some testing and level completion is actually saved when you touch bandaid girl, so I don't have to waste time pressing enter when touching her, which ends inputs faster.
Missing bandaid
If you see the final bandaid reward in the game, you'll see that there are 36 bandaids, but I only collect 35, this is not a mistake. For some reason, the final reward takes 36 bandaids to win, but there are only 35 bandaids, this was probably a mistake by the developer.

Thanks

Special thanks to CasualPokePlayer for creating a script that allowed me to see how many units I moved every frame. This run would be way worse if it wasn't for this script.
