About the Game(s)

Action 52 is an unlicensed game made for the NES and Sega Genesis, featuring - you guessed it - 52 different video games. The NES version was published in 1991, whereas the Genesis version was published in 1993. Both versions were published by Active Enterprises.
Boss is game 45/52 in the NES version of Action 52. You play as a frog soldier that looks like it belongs in Fortnite, shooting lizards, geckos and a frog in a hat while dodging bombs thrown out of windows by monsters.

About the TAS

This TAS aims for fastest completion, which means beating all 6 levels as fast as possible.

Gameplay

The concept for all 6 levels is exactly the same, so I'll just highlight the interesting parts:
  • After waiting through the cutscene and going through the menus, we can start up the game on frame 971.
  • Sometimes we have to wait a bit for a bomb to fall further so we can jump over it. We don't have to do this in Level 2 because the bombs don't fall quickly enough to make a difference.
  • I thought up a very specific method for the boss fights. My initial plan was to just back off to the rightmost place where the frog can't attack us, which took 129 frames. But then, about halfway through production, I had a different idea - weaving left and right as early as possible while shooting every possible frame. This turned out to be 2 frames faster and tpok 127 frames.
  • Lizards and geckos both have 1 hitpoint, while the frogs at the end of every level have 15 hitpoints.
  • Input ends on frame 25782 when we get the final hit in on the Level 6 frog.
That's all from me. Thanks for reading.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Ok, this Action 52 game has a bit more to overcome than others. The spots, where bombs are being dropped, I thought could be improved. Nope. As for the boss fight, LGR does exactly what was needed, in order to optimize the encounter.
Accepting.
