Super Tempo is the sequel to the 32X game Tempo released only in Japan for the Sega Saturn. I started this TAS when the Mednafen saturn finally could emulate it soon before porting to BizHawk. Prior to this the game was only a black screen on the mednafen core and of course on Yabause.
Unfortunately this game isn't as nearly interesting for a TAS as its predecessor.
Instead it's...rather an interesting game, colorful, and strange.
Oh, and what you think you saw in level 1...Yeah, it's what you think...

Techniques

Unfortunately, getting points increases the length of the movie since there's a score tally. Getting any points at all in a level is far worse since then you get to win an item at the end of the level. So a lot of stategy revolves around minimizing score. Unfortunately the game is very generous with giving you points and it isn't so easy to avoid them
Tempo walks at a speed of 512, and after enough walking will increase to 768. Jumping is 512. So you want to be walking as much as possible.
One of the more interesting parts of the TAS happens at the 20 minute mark. By jumping off of rocks and then grabbing them immediately after, you can keep your initial vertical momentum, which makes for getting to the top very quick.

Summary

There's a lot of boring parts to this TAS unfortunately, plenty of breaks to go grab some cheezits.

Thanks

  • Rypecha for fixing Super Tempo in mednafen upon special request, you rock!
  • natt for giving BizHawk a proper Saturn core
  • EzGames69 for keeping me motivated, this wasn't a fun TAS
  • Spikestuff: for going through the hassle of encoding this
The girl bug walks at 512, and can jump at 512 but fly at 256 (which she will start doing if she stays in the air long enough).

Memory: Judging
Memory: Optimization seems good, the author does a great job of limiting time spent in the air since ground movement is faster.
The majority of the entertainment comes from the fact that the game is quite weird as TAS gameplay for this game doesn't really standout from regular play. As has been pointed out by the audience, the game is fairly slow too. The audience response was rather divided, but I feel that the criticisms regarding pacing are too much to overlook.
Accepting to Vault.
