This run is based on Sligfantry's any% run, and share the same tricks and glitches. It's slower however due to the version difference.

Game Objectives

  • Bad Ending
  • Heavy Glitch Abuse

WARNING

This run, as its PC counterpart, does not complete the game. It just reaches the bad ending, and afterward displays the maximum casualties award screen. More on this on FeeCo Depot section.

Dooty's Comments

Real time runs are more and more like TASes these days, and Abe's Exoddus is simply one of the best examples of this. If you inadvertently watch both runs, it will be hard to say which one is the TAS, so, I'll point them out for you;

Necrum Mines

Tunnel 1

Nothing new to see here, move along.

Tunnel 2

Just one small mistake fixed here; the bump on the wall at the beginning.

Boiler

Since it's a TAS, I can make some bold moves, like going straight to the exit without caring about the Slogs.

Tunnel 3

The SDA run is a lot faster here. Why? The trick to skip Tunnel 3 does not work on the PSX version. Instead, I have to set up another, and a lot slower, trick. With these tricks we skipped Tunnels 4 and 5 also.

Tunnel 6

Almost nothing new, but Abe can run faster than the Mine Cart, so I get out of it as soon as I can.

Tunnel 7

Again, the Mine Cart thing, but I'll spend a little bit of time here to set up a Stop"n"Turn trick instead of on the next stage.

Boiler Revisited

Skipped, as on the SDA run.

Necrum

Slightly different choices here, like a jump instead of hoisting, but pretty much else is the same.

Mudomo Vaults

The biggest difference here is that I’ll do this stage before Mudanchee Vaults. This way I’ll avoid some pipes, saving a tiny bit of time.

Vaults 4, 6, 5, 2, 3 and 1

I was getting a pretty bad luck with the Paramites on Vault 5, so I’ve changed the order of the stages and got the same luck as the SDA run. There’s also a new Auto Turn Delay trick on Vault 6 and one on my way to the exit of Mudomo Vaults, but pretty much else is the same.

Mudomo Trial

I set up an Auto Turn Delay trick right at the start, not only because it’s faster to fall through the floor, but it’ll avoid a bump on a wall somehow.

Mudanchee Vaults

Nothing new here apart from it being played after Mudanchee Vaults. So, same strategy, same portion skip, same everything.

Vaults 1, 6, 4, 2, 3 and 5

I’ve also changed the order of the stages here, and by doing that, I can use another Auto Turn Delay trick on Vault 4. The rest is pretty much the same as the SDA run.

Mudanchee Trial

Just one new Auto Turn Delay trick here at the very end.

Necrum - After the Trials

I almost gave up the run at this point. For some reason the emulator was hanging, crashing, freezing and doing all sorts of crazy things as soon I tried to swap to disc 2. Swapping on a frame of lag solved the issue though.

FeeCo Depot

You should start here again after completing the any% run. But in this run, Abe dies on the background of the maximum casualties award screen, returning to the Final Zulag. The SDA, as stated by Samlaptop, just sits on the maximum casualties award screen. To actually beat the game in any mode you must acquire the Shrykull power by rescuing two Mudokons on Zulag 15. Obviously, it’s time consuming and you’ll only see this on the 100% run, by Samlaptop.

Terminal 1 and 2

I challenge you to find a difference between the two runs here, or a faster strategy, or both.

Main Lobby

Using an Auto Turn Delay here the following stages will be skipped; Path to Slig Barracks, Slig Barracks, Block 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, War Room, FeeCo Depot - 2nd Time, Path to Bonewerkz, Terminal 4, Bonewerkz, Annex 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, Bonewerkz Executive Office, FeeCo Depot - 3rd Time, FeeCo Executive Offices, Main Lobby - Last Time.

Terminal 5 - To SoulStorm Brewery

The Greeters, those grinning robots, are really hard to lure, even in a TAS. To pass them unnoticed, you must do so while they’re turning around. Luckily, the last one will do exactly that if you let go of the directional pad for one frame on the previous screen.

SoulStorm Brewery

The SDA strategy is already pretty consistent here and I used it in my first try on this stage. But on a TAS you can make more risky moves, and that’s what I did here to save a few frames.

Hub 1

Zulags 4, 2, 1, 3 and 5

On Zulag 4 you start to notice one of the reasons why the run of PSX version is slower; a drastic drop of the frame rate. The other reasons are lack of FMVs and faster loading times on the PC version. The biggest differences here aer on Zulag 2, where I used a different strategy to chant just one Glukkon and Zulag 5, where I say sorry to the Mudokons only after dealing with the Slogs, the rest is almost the same as the SDA run.

Hub 2

Zulags 7, 6, 9, 8 and 10

New trick on Zulag 7; you don’t need to throw the bones to lure the Slogs, just the smell is enough to keep them busy long enough. Oh, I just forgot to mention it on SoulStorm Brewery; the lift trick, where you pull the lever twice, is already on the SDA run, but I use it a lot more on this run.

Hub 3

Zulags 12, 13, 11 and 14

Same strategies for all the stages, except Zulag 11, where I chant a different flying Slig and use another Auto turn Delay trick.

Zulag 15

The final stage of the game, and guess what? Yes, you guessed it right, I did exactly what you’ll see on the SDA run, no muss no fuss.

Special Thanks

  • Samlaptop, for encouragement, tips and all his efforts to improve all Abe’s runs, thank you.
  • Sligfantry, for his any% run and also for all the cool tricks and glitches he has found, thank you.
