Indeed the loading times are pilling up. In the end, the improvment in term of gameplay alone is about 2 minutes 30 sec.
We have had a little trouble with the ROM I used, which desync on others, so it's not gonna be in the Workbench yet but you can start watching the encode with comments if you want to

I finally finished watching it, it was nicely done. One little suggestion I can see for future encodes (like, let's say, the 100% TAS) is to add the critical chance somewhere, because it wasn't always easy to see which character can crit and which can't.
I feel I just post peoples vids on there behalf these days.....
But I don't give a damn as you lot have an eye for frame perfect improvements like the runner asked for.

Thanks. Well for Critical, it's a case by case thing. It all depends on the Spirit of the character.
Basically, this is how it works :
If Spirit is between..............................Random Number needed in the 4th byte
< 12.....................................................No critical hit possible
12-15...................................................100 193 200
16-23...................................................No critical hit possible
24-27...................................................079 086 093 100 193 200
28-31...................................................086 093 100 165 172 179 186 193 200
32-35...................................................079 086 093 100
36-39...................................................079 086 093 100 151 158 165 172 179 186 193 200
40-43...................................................No critical hit possible
44-47...................................................065 079 086 093 100 151 172 186 193 200
48-50...................................................079 086 093 100 151 158 165 172 179 186 193 200
So at times a number will work for one character but not for another, while sometimes one cannot Critical at all.
The maximum odds we're gonna get in a any% is with Spirit from 28 to 31 which is 9/256.
And thanks Paused for posting the videos. I'm currently midway through Disc 3, still right on schedule for Excalibur II.
My pleasure mate. I'm a big fan of the project, and with how obvious it is you are to get this as perfect as possible I'd hate for something like that pick up outside the Prima Vista Crash site to missed again to not be picked up to say.... Quale' as you had not had enough eyes on the WIPS.
Also...
I'll preface this with saying I'm not 100% committing to anything, as I have no idea how your program works... and I'm not a tech guy... (I'm just not sure how long of a project I'm suggesting I'm joining!)
But I'm very happy to help with your commentated videos if I can. I'll leave the technical stuff to you as I know next to nothing about that kind of thing... But if you need proof reading some of your text or anything of the sort let me know.
The idea occurred to me in periods of dead air that small tidbits of trivia could be slotted in.
The 9th Pluto Knight that is Blank in Disk 1, or the few screens that are different depending on if the mist is amount for example.
Or plot summaries; I realise English isn't your native language... So 'Zidane is actually an Angel of death from another world who helps a guy catch frogs in his off hours' may not translate well.
Or anything else! Best of luck going on Gekko!
Well it's not actually a program, it's just lua drawings over the screen.
For stuff like timer, RNG, thievery, aso, a simple line of code suffice to do the whole movie.
But for things like items on this particular screen or written commentaries, I have to type 'if the framecount is between this and that, then display this text'. That's what takes the longest to do. So your help would be greatly appreciated ^^
Also if you have a better picture to use as background while making the texts still readible.
Anyway, thanks for the good luck ! I just finished Desert Palace this morning, on to Esto Gaza...
Reached the Earth Guardian, about 10h30 in.
Shell Dragon is gonna be a real pain as always if lady Luck isn't on my side, but rest of the third Disc should go smoothly.
But for things like items on this particular screen or written commentaries, I have to type 'if the framecount is between this and that, then display this text'. That's what takes the longest to do. So your help would be greatly appreciated ^^
Hmm; definitely seems likes something I'd need to get my head around before being able to offer worth while contributions...
But if I can manage that; the offer stands!
I can still send you the movie file when I'm sure I won't touch it anymore, and then you can send me a text with the frames and texts you want and I'll do the coding.
Anyway, Disc 3 is done :

Processing ATM, should wait a little bit.
Do you mean how long it will take in-game ? If so, probably around 1h30 spread all over the place.
In real time, of how long it will take me, I guess a lot. Even though I'm now completely knowledgeable of every little mechanics and don't have to bruteforce anymore.
For exemple :

is tightly optimized, takes 1 minute of In-Game time but took 1h30 to make.
EDIT : Disc 4 up to Excalibur II :

Took a long break as I didn't feel very motivated to TAS lately, but I'm back in it.
A good chunk of Tetra Master is done, we now move to the Mognet Central sidequest.
13 hours in.
Ah neat; great to have you back.
Any significant differences in route choices since the last run? Outside the Yan tests I believe the last runs final WIP was at the 13 hour mark also?
The last WIP uploaded yes, but it was actually way further.
Yes, the route is very different, mostly because the change of loading times made me do less sidequests before Excalibur II that I have to do now.
Anyway, hooray for three millions frames !
Oh wow, that does feel like a huge re route. Iirc first time around Quale wasn't planned to happen till much later?
Nice to see that boss TAS'd at last anyway! Nice work!
Chocobo Hot and Cold is maxed out. 99 999 points with beak level of 99.
All Chocographs, Cracks and Bubbles have been found, allowing to start the Healing Beaches sidequest.
I have at least one of each item in the game (except for Tin Armor because you can only get it by synthetising the Hammer which is also unique, so I decided to keep the Hammer) and perfect amount of the missable items.
For Tetra Master, all cards have A rank and unique arrows combination, giving us the maximum Collector level which is glitched :D
I estimate the total of Tetra Master games needed to be played to have all Stats maxed to be around 200.
Thanks !
Also I just saw your signature, I didn't know you were froggy25. Huge thanks to you for the Tetra Master PNRG and the upgrading formula. Saved me hundred hours of bruteforcing to get cards to A rank !
EDIT : Also, while I got you, maybe you can help me. I'm currently maxing the Dragon kills with Serpion. However I was sure to have seen written somewhere once that they can appear by group of three. But Gamefaqs Monster List has them by two maximum. So which one is correct ?
EDIT 2 : Finished the Nero Brothers sidequest. Next time we go to Memoria will be to finish the game !
A little bit more of analysis.
In Final Fantasy IX, you have a Hunter Rank based on how many treasures you picked up. You can view the current value by going to Treno Inn and looking at 800077E78.
My score after doing everything but grinding is 440 points.
Every chest, field icon, reward,... is worth one point.
Every Chocograph treasure is worth two points.
Every Crack and Bubble is worth two points.
There is 370 items worth a point. (Previous research thought it was 369, but they didn't count the reward for the Nero Brother sidequest, not known at the time.)
24 Chocograph treasures so 48 points.
10 Cracks and Bubbles, plus Chocobo Air Garden, so 22 points.
For a grand total of 440 points.
So unless I'm completely mistaken, this is actual proof that I really got everything there is to get in the game ^^
EDIT : Just in case someone is interested by that, here is how your Treasure Hunter Rank is determined :
Points value :
000-199 RANK H
200-219 RANK G
220-239 RANK F
240-259 RANK E
260-279 RANK D
280-299 RANK C
300-319 RANK B
320-339 RANK A
340-440 RANK S
