Excitement incoming! I'd be all for Julius fighting Julius, and am hopeful you'll find out a faster way to reach him. I'm really curious about the route you'll be taking in general as well.

Christ. Why must this be submitted now of all times? Will watch now, vote later. But going by the WIPs, I'm very excited. As expected, very entertaining run. I was aware before of the Catacombs, but what on earth did you do to the poor inverted outer wall? I definitely enjoyed the TAS, very fast and smooth movement and the bosses were just pathetic. Absolute madness, voting yes.

Personally, while I'm usually in favor of early input ending, I am leaning towards finishing the final boss early as well, simply because of the massive time discrepancy between letting the boss time out and destroying it yourself. It just looks a hell of a lot better. I suggest referencing the other version in the publication text of this movie (or the other way around) for people who prefer either.

This was great. I'm not too big on Portal OOB runs frankly, because it is so hard to follow what's going on in them, whereas this was a lot more watchable. Voting Yes. Again.

Been a while, but motivated by andypanther's progress on Gex 64, I decided to take a look at this again, and this trick was too cool not to share. Link to video Skips having to get the firefly at the beginning. Also, you can tailbounce on the barrel without breaking it if done carefully, allowing you to get over the wall. As a side note, if you move the camera away from Cuz before the game counts him as rescued, the remote won't spawn.

Both this and the extra episodes were a very exciting watch. Nice fast and fluid movement. Also, the trick in Battleship 2 was really cool. Voting yes on both.

I spent some time writing a post, but since then, 10 more posts have cropped up, and Radiant probably summed it up better than I ever could. Still, here goes: Let's reiterate.

So, because you're afraid of what could happen, you've decided to employ absurd database protocols?
This is done to avoid redundancy. Most hacks of the same game are so similar to the point it is just redundant to keep several runs of them around, so the site goes with the best canidate we have for a niche, even if several movies would be possible canidates for it. This is exactly what happened several times in the past. Is Hard Relay Mario similar enough to obsolete Air 2? This seems to have been the original question of this debate, but dozens of posts of frankly ridiculous arguing seem to have steered us in all sorts of wacky directions, to the point this had to be split off in a separate thread. You can certainly argue for, or against this, but the majority of the audience seems to think it does. The motivation behind the choice to limit hacks to a "one hack per niche" criterium is the same as the one limiting branches. Instead of trying to account for every possible variation of game X, we want to give the most optimal coverage to game X, showing off as many interesting facets about the game as we can while avoiding redundancy. The database is not the problem, but for my money, it is a more elegant and opportune solution to obsolete a movie with a movie of a different game instead of outright making a published movie vanish. I should point out this has not only happened for hacks, but instead there have been several cross-game obsoletions as well. Tasvideos can afford to be inclusionist for official games because the number of officially licensed and published games is most certainly finite. The number of hacks is not. This is part of the quality control argument, as you can make a TAS for any possible hack and claim it's entertaining enough to be published. Once again I should point out, not every officially published game is fair TASing game either. I do believe there should be a community on the internet keeping track of TASes for hacks of various games which should be as inclusionist as possible. However, the system used at tasvideos is not suited for this purpose.

Which can be made for every hack ever.
Could.
Even considering only the hacks that do have well optimized TASes, the number would still be too large to deal with. Again, there's plenty of people on youtube who do TASes of hacks, and submitting them all to this site would simply be infeasible.

There are many people on Youtube that routinely make TASes of various hacks for one game. While I do think there should be a repository for hack TASes, the current publication system at TASvideos is unsuitable for this purpose, and it doesn't need to be. Put in the bluntest terms, it's not our job to include every hacked game TAS there is.

It's a question of notability in my eyes. The grand issue about most semi-decent hacks is that, usually, a grand total of 5 people played them. Thus only few hacks manage to... a.be known by enough people to give them some notability. b.be different enough from the main game to make a TAS of one worthwhile c.be of a high enough quality to make watching a TAS a pleasant experience. Generally these points tie into eachother to an extent. In regards to b., hacks for one game often fall into one of several categories due to conventions, e.g. Kaizo Hacks and Pit Hacks for Super Mario World. Since your average Kaizo Hack is often impossible to tell apart from the next one, we choose to go with the best of its type. In this particular case, it led to Hard Relay Mario obsoleting Air 2 obsoleting Air. Should a run of the latter two games be released that is deemed more entertaining than this one, there's a good chance it would back-obsolete this one.

Very cool TAS. The tricks were really neat and it was short enough not to get stale at any point. Voting yes.

Alright, thanks for the great responses, everyone! Also much love to ForegoneMoose for making the encode. mklip2001: If you can lay enough damage on him, it would theoretically be possible to finish off Doppelganger in just two cylces (that is, invulnerability periods). Unfortunately, he is very aggressive and begins attacking right away, making it really hard to do so. As for cross art, I would've done it, but the game removes all objects on screen when picking up a boss orb. Quite a shame, if you ask me. Grincevent: I don't think a pacifist version is feasible because of the many enemies you have to kill (or at least attack) to get through. Might be interesting on Original Mode though, because you can damage boost there. Kurabupengin: The NES Castlevania is one of the most crazily optimized movies I know of. I suspect that, unless a new glitch or strategy is found somewhere, it is basically perfect. I think that's all the things i wanted to cover, Cheers all.

That was very unexpected. Also wasn't aware it was possible to trigger ACE like this. Yes vote, natch.

This was really exciting. The new route was really cool, especially since it features a fairly antiquated zip. We really need an All Bosses Julius TAS, but for now, I'm voting Yes.

What I find very impressive about this is that the SMB3 ACE bit, one that's fairly nontrivial to TAS, was able to be done in a quad run. It's also pretty cool that all games ended at pretty much the same time, which is very nice. Obvious Yes vote.

Very impressive but does anyone else find these nauseating to watch? Specifically the constant jittering.
I must say that I agree. While I'd be all over TASing Half-Life, the jitter is what I'm afraid of. Perhaps it's better to watch in slow motion, but at full speed, it isn't very pretty.

The short version to my knowledge is that the blocking of videos is a result of Youtube and the GEMA being unable to agree on licensing terms and conditions, mainly the GEMA asking for unreasonable prices per view. (Incidentally, "unreasonable prices" is quite common with the GEMA, as it's been in the news that they recently raised music fees for nightclubs and the like as well.) While I find it disgraceful and unsuitable as a long-term solution, using a Proxy Service should be your best bet.
