humm i don't think his 100 coin in cool-cool mountain was bad at all, so "shit" is maybe a little too harsh. yea i don't get on msn anymore because of a boring person that sends me messages every time i get on. maybe i should block him. ok just did.

Lets use a playstation2 to emulate a pc and make a tas on it of someone making a TAS of a playstation game! actually this would be the ultimate tool since you automatically add re-recording to every single program and emulator. but it would be practical for making avis only i suppose, which beats the current site system (no fcm style file could easily be made compatible across plataforms).

haha nice vid! humm it surely would be awesome if all stars (applyable) in the 120 stars TAS had a timer like that!

i'll come back and edit this later (right now i'm downloading these avis), but i have to ask while you're checking: how fast is the record for the princess secret slide using that strategy? is it good the way i did? ------- edited part: 1) humm interesting, when i tried, if i went directly like that i wouldn't have enough speed so i'd fall on that ramp instead of falling on the correct one down below. 2) wouter jansen sent me nearly 1 gb of AVI of speedruns, but i noticed i don't have any movie from you. that 100 coin was excellent, indeed it looks a lot like my TAS (or the other way around heh) anyway, i did exactly that wallkick to get the 100 coin star but it ended up that the penguin wasn't fast enough to hit mario, so i went further inside and then back outside for the star. I guess i can slowdown on the race instead so that wallkick will work with the penguin. 3) that third one, there are things done better and worse. I think the most obvious thing that works better than what i did is sliding after the second red coin instead of longjumping. that video is also excellent, it surely will be good comparison. I'm not sure about doing a longer 2nd jump after falling from the 3rd coin to the 4th coin though because that takes me farther from the 5th coin. (but it's mostly better aproaches, so much that it beats my TAS for over 1 second...) amazing stuff.

One question...why was it faster to enter WF with the backflip while all the other times it was faster to turn around and longjump?
i guess it wasn't experimented to do a dive as soon as possible at the top and then roll to the star. it was indeed hard to do that without hitting the wall or the ceiling so that might have been the reason.

Also, do you have any intention of hex editing in some of the longjumps at the beginning of several of the JRB stars (as long as it doesnt affect timing of certain things)? I know it wont save much, but, if it turns out to be not so hard to do, it might be worth it.
I think i'll try to improve JRB after the run is completed and hex-edit it all in, but adding just longjumps is practically impossible. If hex-editing doesn't work, it'll stay the way it is (which is not that bad really). About the backflip jump to enter whomp's fortress painting i did that for variety. I'll do some different ways of entering the painting in other moments of the TAS as well, to please the viewers who aren't fast-forwarding between stars. It adds 2 or 4 frames max in each case and i won't abuse it, i'll use mostly longjumps anyway which are the fastest.

Nice video spezzafer, i wasn't aware of that possibility, i might want to check out the entire run and see if there's any major mistake due to that : /

You must mark the option "read-only" before playing it back. By loading a savestate without this option marked you have just erased everything after that savestate, so you have to download it again. Sorry about that.

Yea but that is only good if the star appears while i'm doing the jump. In this case the star will only appear if i talk to the snowman, and to do that i must be on the ground.

what do you mean? to talk to snowman so he can release the star i need to be touching the ground. hey nice to see you here :) there are many ways to improve the 16 star run, some 20 seconds.

Cool, when i saw spezzafer's run i said somewhere that a 120 star run would be my favorite in the site, then i thought to myself i should do it then. But even though this is "my" run, the special thanks list will be very long.

It was possible to get the 100 coin star sooner (even though that wouldn't change the total time at all), but that way the penguin wouldn't hit mario while he was celebrating, which looks very funny, imo.

I think the amount of coins I get only add up frames at the end of the stage if I get more than 100 coins. They made it so counting 100 coins takes as much time as the "mario scratching his head and putting hat back on" animation, so if I get 100 coins exactly, it still takes as much time as 0 coins.

25 stars: - 2nd princess secret slide: i didn't spend too much time here, what's the best time known in speedruns using the this strategy? i got 12'6" - tower of wing cap: yea it looks a little unoptimized with the non-perfectly straight flying, but it was hard to control... i do a little surprise at the end though :) - cool-cool mountain: i think this looks overall very good. the first 2 stars were 78 frames faster than spezzafer's. yep. I tried to get 2 extra lives on "snowman's lost his head" but i couldn't do it on time so i went only for the extra life in the box. maybe i should go for the one in the tree it looks better i guess. the movie (25 stars WIP): http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/supermario64-foda-120stars-wip-v45.zip slot 9 savestate before whomp's fortress (same as before): http://rapidshare.de/files/11686142/sm64savestate9-v38.zip.html slot 8 savestate right after whomp's fortress http://rapidshare.de/files/11890586/sm64savestate8-v45.zip.html so, comments?

he was jumping for 1 frame. a second is divided into 60 frames so you understand how small a fraction of time a frame is. he jumps for 1 frame then goes back to the wall (actually i haven't tri ed this game so it may be 2 or 3 frames)

Me and 9 other crazy guys are trying to make a living with selling games, so we're making this games developing company and such but it's really hard right now because we're working on our own developing the first game so we get no money heh but i think we'll get there eventually. I'm one of the people in charge of the 3d graphics (modeling, texturing, animation).

I don't turn in mid-air, i turn while on the ground and then jump on the first frame of the breaking animation so it looks like instant 180 turning+jump. I don't know exactly what you meant : / I'm running in one direction, then +1 frame i hold opposite direction then +1 frame i hold A+B+that opposite direction.

1)I think you can leave the owl earlier and then dive to the star.
humm i didn't think of that... why didn't you say earlier? : / oh well... i don't think i'll remake because of that, i took nearly 2 hours to get the blast away the wall star, it was a real pain. (unless someone can help me hex-editing? i have never hex-edited a n64 movie file before, only fceu) edit: ok i tried it but i couldn't dive in becasue when i released from the owl i get pushed away from it, so if i dive i get pushed even farther away. But i'm sure i'm released from the owl better before, while playing normally... i don't know

2)Did you try to get to the top of the fortress using your route?
yea it was slower (about 1 second).
FILIM0NAS wrote:
3)For shoot to the wild blue, why don't you try to glitch through the wall after your 2nd dive and then long jump?Or is it far, so that you don't make it up to the platform?
i can only enter the wall through the triangle at the top, that triangle has no colision check.
FILIM0NAS wrote:
4)The 100 coins were good. I didn't like the very last part that you slide. Can't you just long jump and take damage? It is also good that the stone push you closer to the other star. ; )
i can't long jump and take damage because then i have to wait for mario to finish his damaging to end before he can jump high enough to get the star (in this case the plataform was going away, when i got down there it was totally inside the wall). but because of this then the stone pushed me towards the star yep :)
FILIM0NAS wrote:
5)Can you get the "blast away the wall" by triple-jumping from the other side and wall kick (like you do for the 100 coins)? So that you don't have to get up to the rotating platform at all.
i tried that but it's way too high. i even tried to wall kick and try to grab it above but i couldn't.

Ok here's my full whomp's fortress WIP. It's 1252 frames (20 seconds) faster than the v30 WIP which plays 100 coins and no blast away the wall (with it's time subtracted for fair comparison). And it's 65 frames faster than the v38 WIP which played all stars but the 100 coins (61 frames faster on the cage star, 4 frames faster on the blast away the wall star). I think the 100 coin route looks pretty tight considering i have to wait for the spinning bridge so it looks like anything before that is not improveable, as i reachthe bridge barely on time to get the 1st yellow coin on it. Some may wonder why did i take 9 coins from the whomp instead of only 8 and then taking the last yellow coin on the spinning bridge, but then i'd have to wait a little more at the bridge, but this way i am free to go for the pirana plant as soon as i get the yellow coin that is located right after the red coin on the bridge, since the constraint here is the bridge itself. I gave up the blue coin on the second pirana plant because it was too much out of the way and i had to wait for the coin to appear. If i killed the pirana and then went away too fast the coin wouldn't appear. Even if i went for that red coin under the island, that would be far enough for the coin to not appear. (also it's 2 minutes and 7 seconds faster than the 120 star testrun) http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/supermario64-foda-120stars-wip-v43.zip savestate (slot 9): http://rapidshare.de/files/11686142/sm64savestate9-v38.zip.html

What's the difference in finding a few glitches and finding a lot of glitches can you define a line between "nobody ever thought of that" and "nobody could do that" when talking about glitches? i guess pretty much every player in this site has already found a glitch that nobody thought of before.
