What do you mean? stage 1-2? i don't see what's the problem with holding B before the level starts

Maximus, if making a TAS was that simple (just time taking), then we would all make the absolute perfect movie at first attempt, which is not the case.

Well, I don't know if it's a shortcut, but it's faster.

I've thought of doing this, but the current version of gens scares me (no slot picking hotkey) Obviously, this game demands for a simultaneous 2 player TAS. I think fastest time is the way to go. About killing enemies style, on my RT tas i tried to kill them as soon as possible. Try to avoid the lag. - why did you start from a savestate? not only it didn't work for me, you have to start from power on.

Really? The people making them can't tell the difference?
he didn't make it for himself, he made it for people who will watch it. those are the people who can't tell the difference.

He made the runs for people to watch. Not all speedrunners finish games for themselves. So it's pointless FOR HIM to keep on going if noone can tell the difference between a TAS and a speedrun, except that the TAS is clearly better. This is where that analogy failed because taking a copter or jetpack or plane is clearly different than walking or climbing. Yes, there are speedrunners who don't care if there are tases. But he does, and we were discussing why that was. If you wanted to question why he was making runs just for people to watch, then get to the point.

That's just not true, those who walk to the south pole don't do it for themselves. They want attention and being on tv.

How is it unrelated? if you said someone used steroids to endure the pain of walking on ice, then yea, that'd be a good comparison as a tool-assisted south pole walk, but using "take a plane there" makes no sense because it's different type of "walking to the south pole".

Like Max]I[muS-X said, they don't make it for their own pleasure and keep it in a box where noone can see. The fact that people will want to look at the run and be impressed helps a lot as encouragement to spend months training and perfecting the game.

That sounds complicated because of the route planning. What about doing a more straightforward series?

You mean, going to the left where it's higher and try to jump from there? could work if it was much higher. The way i did i was going left when i reached it. Otherwise i'd be going away from the goal.

Phil, it's usefull to me, because of the way i save the states: - i go saving 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 then 7 then 1 then 2... etc - if i want to go back 1 savestate i load the one from before the one i am at the moment. but sometimes i forget which one i'm at (especially if i'm too concentrated in getting the movement right and stay more than a few seconds without fiddling with the savestates). This is especially a problem in mupen64 because it shows which savestate i picked and saved for too short amount of time. Fceu shows in big bold letters. But i think that "a hokey to show which savestate you're at" isn't exactly the best, it should be toggling, it must be visible all the time.

Twiddling both with the height at which I jumped from the pole and the time when I dived got this close without slowdown Im not sure how close this is to the hitbox of the coin... but with frame precision you might be able to knick the corner of it... I think its close but probably not possible ... I was also thinking maybe some kind of jump off the edge of the platform after its tilted on its side might work? I know how important that coin is but am not sure how doable getting it is...
whoa! i got it! yay! yea, jumping from the pole and doing a dive ^_^

Yea... getting it is a real problem. If on that image that was the closest you got to the coin, he's still really far from getting it. Kitsune: maybe if you provide an email or something i could send you. Or you can download the previous WIP which didn't come with savestate and i hosted on my site. It plays to the end of BBH

Actually, i can totally see his point, and you missed it, Nach. He didn't give up because of the time record. He gave up because he liked to make the speedruns in order to show the stunts mario can do. Which point was totally killed by the TAS.

Yea i know you're all concerned about the swimming, but just for comparison, my "board bowser's sub" star was 29 frames faster than spezzafer's. This was due to better direction, and probably the camera avoiding lag too. It's really time taking to control all that while tapping the A button. So i had to give priority to what was more important: the lag. And on bowser2, everything from before i can reach the upper part of the level didn't need to be optimized, because i had to wait a fixed amount of time there. I even regret taking the 5 yellow coins instead of the yellow box if there is an extra live in there. if not, then nevermind. I will try what asteron suggested about the red coin, if it works the level will be very different.

This is really impressive, and at the first minutes the stunts made me laugh :) then i went to "wtf", then some more "wtfs" and then "nice". I missed the final in-game time, i must have skipped the credits -_- I only noticed one mistake (unless it can't be fixed): - while fighting kraid, you do a weak shot to start charging? when you do this, the game lagged, i think you could've shot the ground or something. or you can tell me i'm wrong :) this doesn't need voting, it's an excellent sci-fi movie. and also an excellent tas.

I AM HAVING an annoying problem with read only mode toggle (in all nitsuja's versions and luke's verson). AFter recording a passage, I toggle to read only mode and load a state at the beginning of the passage. Often it will stop playing the movie about halfway through. Subsequently, reloading and loading the savestate and the end of the passage doesn't work. This results in me losing a portion of my run. I wish I could elaborate more on this but I don't really understand what is going on yet? Does anyone else extensively use the read only mode toggle feature, & and you experienced similar problems?
Same with me. For that reason i don't use read-only toggle at all, it's been giving me many problems. It needs to be either fixed or removed.
