Well, I think slowdown should be avoided when possible.
Hmm, ok i will remove it :)

Probably you will get other chances to show off your incredible punching speed too.
I will kill him using the gun then

I like the walk through enemies after hitting them trick, will you use it? (Yeah, opinions schmopinions)
Yep i use it a lot

Another though - how much air control do you have? (I remember the air control being somewhat lacking and irritating when I played this.) When you do the really big fall down to the ninja, is is possible to steer left after the top corner, and then steer right so you pass the bottom corner with more speed? I would check this myself, but I am away from my own computer currently.
Batman's movement is not accelerated, on the very frame he passes through the ceiling at the bottom he starts moving right at max speed. but i could go left and right i guess (on batman you can only change forward jumps directions onto bumping into a wall, holding the opposite direction and waiting some 5 frames untill he turns. i found he could change directions inside the jump when going up the shaft on 1-2 but didnt realize it was because i was hitting the wall in front of me, i thought it was because of my 3-way shot in mid air. so i tried several things to be able to climp 1 wall instead of 2, here is a jump training session i did at 1-2: http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/fodas-jump-training-Batman.zip

Approach of the ninja looked less impressive to me than it did in Linnom's version.
He needed 3 jumps to avoid the ninja, i did it in 2. but there is a change i can make (shoot a boomerang and then just when the ninja jumps onto me the boomerang will stop him coming from behind)
Bisqwit wrote:
I'd say also the same about the match against the boss, but since it's possible that my memory is over-appreciating Linnom's run, I should actually compare them.
Yea, he killed the boss faster, in fact our movies have exactly the same frame lenght after the boss battle. all the 35 frames i had of advantage were wasted on the way i killed the boss. Should i just jump and bash the boss into punches? The weapons made him dance was so cool.. edit: here is how i killed the boss: hit #1 = 3way shot facing right hit #2 = same 3 way shot this time throws him left hit #3 = Punch hit #4 = 3way shot facing right hit #5 = same 3 way shot this time throws him left hit #6 = another 3way shot, but this time i change to boomerang right after the first hit, so the 3 way shot disappears hit #7 = boomerang (1 hit)

* Why do you do an extra small jump before one of the sitting guys with flamethrowers, before you jump over him up to the ledge? (I think the current video does this too)
the current video waits for the fire to stop. the thing is, the fire is a diferent enemy than the flamethrowerman. you can kill the flamethrower and the fire will still go through it's 5 waves cycle. all you can do is wait, or jump so that you fall just ahead when the fire stops. that's what i did, i jumped :)
Truncated wrote:
* There is slowdown from too many objects when you climb the "stairs" with the spike wagons. Is this avoidable?
yea, i noticed too, it could be avoided by not shooting the 3-way shot, i decided to keep it that way, ignoring slowdown (i think slowdown on 8-bits and 16-bits games is actually cool, maybe that's just me. i like to see the real game in slow motion sometimes it's like the matrix effect, which was not invented by the warchavsky brothers but that's another story)
Truncated wrote:
* You throw too many punches on the sencond flying monster. (style only..)
yea decided to keep that too, to show many punches you can fire in a single jump... but it's all changeable, you are the bosses :) i just work here heh

http://www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/Batman-foda-1-boss.zip (right click and choose "save target as...") updated, slightly different, faster and more interesting boss, ninja and last jetpack guy. ok guys, this WIP goes through entire level 1, including boss. i wanna know what you think about it. i used weapons everywhere i could to hit enemies without slowing me down at all. i also tried not use the 3-way shot wherever possible. the way i see it, this movie shows a lot more precision on the usage of the weapons than on the current run that dodges enemies. i mean, it's harder to use the weapons the way i showed possible. and i made the boss dance :) when you shoot the boss, he will go backwards. wrong! he will be thrown to the same direction you are facing! so, shoot and then turn back, so when the bullet hit the boss (any weapon) he will be thrown AT YOU, saving walk time to get close to him :) that way i killed him in a funny, almost hard to understand way :)

isnt it an easy way to "mark" a frame by pressing all keys at that frame? then on the hex editor you only need to find the 111111111 sequence? i have never opened an hex editor hehe, i just read the help on the page and got an overall idea.

I was playing around with playing movies across diferent games (like playing adventure island on super mario 1 rom, etc) when i thought which game would work with most movie types and i think it's NES pinball! since the start screen accepts start button on the first frame, nearly every movie file will start the game, and the commands are these: D-pad = move the left paddle A or B = move the right paddle (hold a button to launch the ball) start button unfortunately pauses the game... :( so i propose a competition: let's see who can find the highest score made by a movie file submited to this site! you can use fceu or famtasia movie files, just be sure to use Pinball (JU).nes I'll start with this run: NES Circus Charlie (Japan) in 03:25 by Phil and Genisto = 18900 points (famtasia) Current top score: Blaster Master (#86, 43:58, obsolete): 37960 Current lowest score: The Krion Conquest in 17:51 = 11050, 5860, 7770, 1780

i dont think it will be possible to use all the ammo unless i waste shots or unless i manipulate luck to NOT get ammo :S you keep your ammo even after using a continue, at least that's how it works on my pirate cartridge, which doesnt doesnt show the text in the level-betweens, and starts with 9 lives lol... didnt check it on the (U) rom.

Also I agree with Blechy, in some games, such as Batman and NG it looks better to dodge enemies rather than kill them. Doing this is alot more difficult on the console, and to anyone who has played the game will in my opinion be more entertaining.
but killing a lot of enemies AND going faster than skipping them looks better, imho. there is a place i kill 3 enemies using a single shot. it has more action.. check it out for yourselves: www.angelfire.com/ex/uobt/Batman-foda-1-1.zip (fceu-0.98.12-blip.win, Batman (U).nes)

-redid level 1-1 -used TAB for frameadvance, much easier, my hand doesnt hurt anymore :D i couldnt manipulate the luck on 2 of the prizes (i got a heart and a B), not that i need to manipulate the prizes that much... - 1777 frames (now it's something :)) - 62 ammo left - kills: punch = 3 / boomerang = 0 / gun = 0 / three-way-shot = 8 (6 shots kills 8 enemies, and damage 1 enemy so that i can kill him using 1 punch right after) i'm afraid this would be rejected for the same reason that using flying knees is too much on double dragon 2. maybe. i'm just doing all i can to beat it the fastest way.

about using the boomerang, it wouldn't kill the enemies, it takes 2 or 3 boomerangs hits to kill enemies. and usually 2 punches. but i jumped and punched high so they died in one hit, i wonder if it's in the game engine (first head shot programmed???) that way they die in 1 hit. well, i accumulated a lot of ammo just on 1-1, this way i can use the weapons a lot, manipulate luck to get more ammo, it will be much more variated and will show a good use of the weapons, it's indeed very different than skipping-punching your way out of the level. for example, i can use the 3-way shot to kill the crawling robots so that they dont slow me down too much, etc.

hear hear, i redid level 1-1 using fceu and frameadvance, look at the diferences: BIG EDIT: OOPS shame on me, i compared my run with a run i dont know where i got from, i was sure i saved it hmm i messed up with files, anyway, i compared to the REAL current run now, here are the updated differences: current run: 1808 frames long i got: 1804 frames long (not much really) current run: no ammo remaining i got: 57 ammo remaining current run: kills 1 enemy (using a punch) and punches 3 other enemies, fires no shots. mainly jumps over enemies. i kill 7 (5 using punches and 2 using a single 3-way shot) and punch 2 other guys. my hand hurt a lot from doing this, as i did it at 100% speed and practically frameadvanced the whole movie, i just let the game flow for a few moments when walking straight or during the tallest part of the jump. hmm i mainly tried it because i thought the file i had here in my computer was the current run, i actually downloaded the fmv but i played another file :P

yes but doing it my way is faster and definitely more interesting than genisto's movie. i dont think it's faster than using the skip level code, but isn't the purpose of this site to put up interesting unexpected movies? maybe it could be added as a supplement?

the level skip code (A+start) only works till level 16. on level 16 and from there on, the code stops working. by doing the run the way i said, you will start at level 30 but it will be showing "level 1" to the right of the screen. but that doesnt enable the skip level cheat. the engine knows that level is level 30 in fact

i did check genisto's movie, but the concept i'd like to use is completely different. instead of doing all levels, which can be repetitive AND expected, i would let the computer play the demo, get the computer to suicide, use the continue code and voilá i'm on level 30. it would still leave me with 3 regular levels for showing off and then it would be the last boss. it's an unknown glitch and it's more interesting than going through all levels in more than 20 minutes. it just goes against the site rules for using a "cheat code"...

anybody wants me to do this? now to think of it, would be a damn impressive way of beating the game. even though it uses a continue code... i would make an exception in this case
