I see that you think this:

because of this:

I'm not going to argue, because that's your opinion. But from observing for the past 2 or so years, I know that at least 80-90% of the people who watch these movies do so to be entertained, not so that they know exactly how fast game X can be played (especially not for lesser known games).

A solution like that would open up a very, very large can of worms, especially when it comes to unpublishing other runs. If Guano's run can be unpublished due to being grossly improvable, what's to stop people from requesting other runs be unpublished due to being grossly unentertaining? Bisqwit has said many times that once a run is published, it becomes a permanent piece of the archive ("member of the family" is the wording he used, IIRC). Guano's run is outdated, yes, but so is Metroid 100%, and no one seems to be clamoring for that run to be unpublished or other nonsense.

I don't see that at all. I've seen people state their opinion regarding whether they liked the run or not, and various other people try to discredit those opinions without any reason to. As for the run, I finally got around to watching it. While there were some pretty interesting glitches/tricks in the adult segment, it wasn't nearly the "you're going to wet your pants" type run that I was expecting from many of the comments in this thread. This has nothing to do with the technical accomplishment of the run; it was obviously very well planned out and executed. I just found it hard to sit through a 3 hour long TAS without feeling bored at times. However, I was moderately entertained throughout most of it, and will give it a yes. Had this not been my favorite game to play as a kid, I would have been bored to tears, as many of the other recent posters have been. It's a typical problem with RPGs (and yes, this is an action RPG, no matter what anyone tells you), and I'm not surprised there have been some people who couldn't sit through the whole thing, and found it uninteresting. That's just how things go with long runs like this. Sometimes it helps to have played the game. In any case, I'd like to say excellent work to Bloobiebla, and please make another run, I can tell you have a very good gift for TASing. On another note, I still haven't heard any good reasons for obsoletion of Guano's run... speak soon, or forever hold your peace. On yet another note, if you listen carefully when adult link is sidehopping, it sounds like he's saying "SKANK! SKANK!" repeatedly. That gave me quite a chuckle.

Thanks for the comments guys. Cardboard pointed something out to me, and made me feel pretty stupid for never noticing it. The previous publications have all ended at the "Congratulations" screen, with input ending at the final hit on the last boss. However, if you press start during that screen, the credits will begin to roll. So to better adhere to the movie format rules of the site, I've made a new version with an extended input. It can be found here: Click me! This will unfortunately make the new movie file roughly 30 seconds slower than the previous publication, but the 11+ seconds of gameplay improvements still stand, and this better fits with the standards of the site. In any case, the content remains the same, so either file can be used for viewing.

Your teammate seems to disagree:

The main problems I'm having:
A)I haven't had time to sit and watch it B) With 65-0-0, it's obviously going to be accepted. However: i) There is no clear consensus on whether it should obsolete Guano's run. I still haven't heard a good reason to, other than "It would take Guano's run off the site" C) An encode is coming along, but present audio/video desyncs mean there is no reason to rush a decision.
Carry on...

It IS a rule. Some people just choose NOT to follow it. So good for you for being a trooper.
Care to post a link from the rules that specifically states this? I couldn't locate it.

Hi dwangoac, and welcome to the forums! If I were in your position, I would probably cancel this submission until you're sure of the file that you want submitted. Replacements to submission files are usually only accepted when the improvement is minor, and it sounds like the file you posted two posts above this one has completely changed the run. Also, it seems that you're working on yet another run which may end up being faster still. So to avoid confusion as to which run is which, it would be be best to cancel this now, and resubmit when you're sure that you've produced final run that meets your expectations.

If the 10 frame improvement had come from entering a different, shorter name, I'd have given this a no. But improving on entry of the same name is just as valid as any other improvement. Voting yes.

5 hours of a pokemon knockoff? O_O You'd have to be a pretty hardcore fan of the game to even attempt to sit through that.

I never said I didn't have ROMs on my hard drive, but I also didn't blatantly say "This isn't a legal copy that I didn't want to pay for, but you really should!"

It's nice that you didn't answer Raiscan's question about your conflicting actions and thoughts regarding piracy and how the authors deserve some compensation. Ignoring a question won't make it go away, you know.

Yes, it is desirable. HOWEVER, the main problem with people trying new things is that they make up shitty goals on their own, WITHOUT DISCUSSING IT BEFOREHAND. Then we get it submitted, and there's a 9 page discussion about how good the run is, and how much work the author put into it, but that the goals aren't good. If you're going to do a new and unique run, either: A) Discuss the goals before-hand, in the appropriate thread, and get feedback from anyone who cares to comment. (Bloobiebla rightly did this) B) Make up your own unique goals, but be prepared to have it receive poor feedback due to arbitrary and poorly-defined goals (they are different). I love to see new ideas presented well just as much as I hate to see runs on the workbench that have ill-defined goals. But unless you're sure that you have totally objective goals that won't get torn apart when the run hits the bench, discuss it before hand.

No, but neither is Chrono Trigger newgame+. Given maxed out armor/health/magic, I can easily go play a game just like inichi, with probably only a couple minutes lost off of his movie.

Go back and watch Sonic 3 again, you may notice that an entire stage (Ice-cap 1 or 2, I can't remember which) is skipped. Skipped as in, the mini boss never shows up, and Sonic basically gets warped to the end of the level.

So, using your example, when does a game become "not played"? What's the cutoff line you use?

Where exactly?
Right around frame 8500, although after watching it again, there doesn't seem to be as much lag as the first time I watched it.

These couple throw up a red flag for me. First, why aren't you aiming for fastest time in all the levels? Aiming for the fastest time in most levels is a very fuzzy goal, at best. Second, I don't have a problem with entertainment/speed tradeoffs, but they tend to be small movements where the speed loss isn't very noticeable. Doing extra levels or bosses is fine, but make it part of your "100% completion" goal or something. The way you have it phrased right now, it makes me think that you're doing them just to do them, with no real point (an analogous example would be collecting 1 or 2 stars in Super Mario 64, then continuing with the entirely glitched route. Sure, it lets people see a little more of the game, but it makes your goal very hard to define). I don't know enough about the game you're working on to give you specific examples, but I just thought I'd give you a couple tips before you continue working on it.

I thought this run was the right length for the type of game. It was somewhat monotonous, but I noticed a few nice tricks to speed things up, and the boss fights were slightly varied. One thing I noticed that looked improvable was in level 3 (or 4). There is a section where three enemies (the ones who look like the dwarfs from Golden Ax) are coming at you from the left, with one enemy on the right. The game seemed to lag up quite a bit there, so I was curious if stopping for a short amount of time to kill the midgets would have reduced that lag. Anyway, I'm going to give this a meh, but with a lean towards the yes column. One concern I have is the lack of interest in the run. Currently, it has been on the workbench for 2 weeks and only has 3 votes (which seems to be an unfortunate common occurrence with GBx runs). Anyone else want to weigh in and give some opinions?
