I'm not submitting the finished run first and foremost because it's not to my standard of optimization. It also doesn't always sync properly, which is part of the reason I've been less of a perfectionist with the frame grinding.

I'm doing a similar thing, though my TAS is all made on one movie. Technically you could play it back and have it sync, but it's unlikely and would take several attempts.

Edzan's TAS was recorded in small segments to avoid desyncs, it was probably an editing error dealing with all those video files.

That's exactly what I'm saying, I might as well take advantage of a forum with a thread about TASing Metroid Prime to make it known that I'm TASing Metroid Prime.

Screw attack skip is just a bunch of small things, mostly BSJs and Boost SSJs. It's always been a skippable item but is useful on bosses for killing them quickly, a TAS would just use MBI to one hit kill everything though. Link to video

Here's another little optimization, though the video has very suboptimal movement. I didn't space my jumps very well so I think a second or two could still come off this, but the new strat itself saves a lot of time on it's own. Link to video

Here's another little time saver, I'd estimate it'd save around 5 seconds with optimization. This video only saves 3, but you'll note the door took a while to open due to how late I hit the load trigger, dashing with a better angle to hit the load trigger sooner would save a fair bit of time, as well as just turning around more optimally to be facing the scan point when I land on the ledge. The loading is very accurate on the 4.0-4222 revision, I don't think it's anything to worry about. But worst case scenario I could route in an extra tank somewhere to make sure it's 100% possible, if it is shown that console loads wouldn't allow this.

I guess I should share things on here. I'm pretty sure skipping varia is faster but it's going to be a long time before I can confirm it due to the stupid amount of things to time. This is important to know is possible because it allows me to collect Wild inbounds from the back. Link to video This is less important because there's no way a 2 tank would find it's way into a full route, getting back from Phendrana to Chozo will likely take 4 tanks meaning the VMR on the way there would have 3. Link to video Speaking of which, Strength being collected with 3 tanks seems just barely possible.
there are two potential drops from the boxes in monitor station that are completely free with this strat, I just fire another missile as I lock onto the puffer. There's another potential drop in Fiery Shores from the set of 3 boxes midway through the room. That 30 energy plus the 20 I lost from not caring to manipulate RNG would make 3 Tank with Strength seem barely possible with optimization.
Link to video It'd also likely be faster to get the Energy Tank on the way to Phendrana instead of on the way out, which I'm working on optimizing to maybe be feasible. This is very suboptimal and has a lot of room for improvement. Link to video And if I do get that Energy Tank and Strength on the trip to Phendrana, I believe wallcrawling the trip back to Chozo will actually be more energy efficient than inbounds, mostly do the more direct movement in some rooms but also being able to avoid the double heated room with Nature. And luckily I found an out of bounds right at the start of Magmoor, though the Energy Tank can't be collected from out of bounds. Link to video

Hey look I solved the Prawn skip clip without Cruise Bubble, that means we can do it pre-Robo Patrick and save some time on cutting out a load screen and having CB for an extra spatula later Link to video By the way, the TAS is at this point now, 26 spatula's in. (And progress should be made a more quickly once I have my new computer up and running in a couple days and won't have to put up with my laptop overheating).

I've never had any luck with hexing inputs for GC games, normally it syncs for a couple seconds and then something gets mistimed and everything gets out of sync. I even once had inputs I never did show up, when I recently tried to hex a section of the BfBB TAS it ended up pausing the game partway into the added inputs, I had never pressed start... Apparently Tasmalleo has hexed inputs into some of his TASes, so maybe he knows something I don't. Easiest way to contact him might be Twitter.

Obviously it's your call but if you have the time and patience to start it over, that'd be pretty cool. I don't have much faith in myself finding anymore skips, there are a few that I've tried for a while but had no luck with. If anyone else wants to look into them here's a list, I'm out of ideas. Bank Heist has that one cutscene skip that was posted in here before, maybe there's some way to make it work on GC? Skyline Stretch as whole is one area, if there were a way to get onto an unintended building you could probably bypass a section of the level. Also on the last area, you can use that swinging exploit to get onto the fence to the right of where you start. I wasn't able to find anything to jump on after that which would aid in getting to the top though. Nomanisan Island has a rock you can do that R jump + B attack trick to land on, on the other side of the rock wall before the OoB that I found. If you can climb up there it would skip the tree flinging you over the rocks and having to do the OoB again. I might mess with TAS on this later when my computer isn't overheated. Robot Arena has seemingly huge potential for a skip, but the invisible walls in this level just seem too high no matter what. You can get up on the concrete walls before the rail gun part of the level, but there's nothing else to stand on up there. I also strongly believe that the power supply to the blue lasers in the left and right tunnels at the start are invincible until later on. Even the code to break everything doesn't break them. If there were a way you could just go through there, you could skip the rail gun section. There's a thin tree and a thicker tree beside it you can jump onto before the boss at the end of this stage, again the invisible walls just seem too high to get over, even from on top of the tallest tree there. Syndrome's Base I noticed has some acute angled ceiling/walls meeting the floor, crouching into those makes you clip the wall a little but I wasn't able to actually break out or have and useful outcome here. Finding Mr. Incredible has a door that opens to let guards out near the start of the stage that you can jump through before it closes, having that door close on you can clip you inside it, from there I'm not sure if you can escape, I tried with savestates for a while. Secret Lava Labs you can use the first swinging thing in the first lava room to get onto the pole the swinging thing is hanging from, but you can't really do much from there since the panels don't seem active

wonderful commentary on that video. I haven't played this game in ages, what's the estimated time save on that? Edit: went around to mess with this game and found about a minute timesaver in the first stage. After looking into it more I found you can walk around the side of the cutscene trigger and then activate the cutscene as you grab onto the zipline, allowing you to slide down that during the cutscene. It should save a few more seconds. Link to video I started looking into other things, but this games checkpoint system and unskippable cutscenes are kind of demotivating me Edit: alright here's a 10 second time saver (maybe more depending on console loads?) Link to video And a 1 minute and 15 second time saver Link to video And a 1 minute and 10 second time saver Link to video And just a general exploit Link to video Edit again: Here's a little timesaver on the Bomb Voyage fight. It saves about 3-4 seconds/hit, I think it's doable on every hit but some are risky because if you miss you'll be too far out to make it back (getting hit by the bomb should be enough knockback to throw you back). It's probably worth testing to see if it works with the missiles as well, though I'm on console at the moment and don't want to try it without savestates. Link to video

The bigger problem is that the TAS literally will not play back from start to finish. If you savestate before RNG factors and reload them over and over again you can technically make it sync, but it'd be pretty stupid for someone to consider that fair and legal. I personally just TAS a couple rooms at a time and then record them and make a savestate at the end to record the next couple rooms. That's why having my harddrive fail on me was such a big problem, I lost the encodes and the TAS didn't play back so I didn't think I could get that footage again. Thankfully I have managed to rerecord all the missing footage and audio though the means of constantly loading states like I said. But even if this weren't the case, I personally don't feel the level of effort put into this is worth submitting.

Due to persistent RNG emulation inconsistencies I had to lower the optimization level of the TAS a lot. It essentially devolved into a "high optimized controller savestate spliced TAS", which I don't think most people can even tell the difference honestly. Everything in Chozo, where I first ran into inconstant enemy movement, was done pretty fast, but not grinding down frames like Frigate was. Where I'm going with this is that this current TAS, which I do plan on finishing once my new computer is built, is not TASVideos legit, it's not optimized to the level I'd like it, and is more of a concept and comparison for a future TAS to improve on than anything else. Edit: And it'd also be nice to have around for comparing route changes, like skipping Varia. Hopefully accurate loads, and more importantly accurate RNG, will be present whenever it is that I, or someone else, wants to actually go all out on this game. It's nice to see some progress being made on at least one of those things. It's a shame I can't help with confirming load times until I have a computer.

I wonder how practical it'd be to encode both and overlay the low quality encode without enhancements with some effects to make the shadows/bubble bowl icon more pronounced in the high quality encode... lol. Edit: Ehhhh the codes seem to effect sync somehow so I guess we'll never know.
