Pointless speculation much? We don't know when the PS4 and XBox 720 will be here, or exactly what they will be. When they come out, then we can talk about them.
You are ignoring the important portion of my argument and derailing the discussion. Additionally you are being clearly facetious about your statement because if you look at sales of consoles (regardless of if they are PS3 PS4 XBox 360 Wii WiiU NDS Vita PSP) Nintendo is in the lead since late 2005 when the XBox 360 (starting this generation) came out clearly indicating their censorship has not turned them into a joke.

Well the PS4 and XBox 720 which are at the same generation as the WiiU have sold a combined 0 units so Nintendo has sold infinitely times as many.

I disagree so much. This kind of thinking is astonishing backwards for a site that values so much being the newest thing. If this castrated proposition passes, I'll extremely disappointed with the site TasVideos.org. I hate censorship, with a lot of passion, and I'll probably will not stand entering this site again. "Oh, but OmegaWatcher doesn't contribute anything for the site, let him go, no one will miss him" When I joined TASVideos, I intended to give a perceptive of someone who just watches videos, hence OmegaWatcher. I tried to learn only once how to make a TAS, and was met with indifference. Then, I just continued being part of the site, giving my opinion. The only difference between someone whom just watches the TASes and me is that I lose some of my time writing things. And I firmly believe that the site will only lose if it follows this guidelines. It will became a joke, just like Nintendo and their censorship. It's not about porn. It's about games with nudity. For all that are against games involving in the site: Are you afraid of sex? one more thing: I read a couple of times that the site's objective is making some kind of art. how about acting like artists, not like soccer moms?
First, as a side note to your argument, I like how you said Nintendo is a joke as it sits firmly at the highest sold home and portable console of this generation of systems. Second, I am not against nudity being in video games. I am against crappy games that exist only as porn being posted to the site. If this was God of War, which contains nudity and a sex scene, or Duke Nukem which contains nudity I would be completely fine with a run being posted. The difference is that those are games that feature nudity rather than games that exist solely to display porn. Finally, Yes X-Man is completely a work of art that deserves a place on this site for being art. Right up with there with Backdoor Sluts 9 or this (removed link myself as I didn't want it associated with my account. Search for "girl spaghettios art" and it will show up) masterpiece of art history. Just because something is "art" doesn't make it good or deserve placement on a site, especially one with no age barrier.

Was there ever an actual discussion about this topic? I know that was submitted and rejected prior to the new tiered system but this seems like a different issue than the rejection for bad game choice rule. I personally would prefer that this run was not accepted but I cannot think of a justification for rejection that wouldn't lead to a "slippery slope." I wouldn't know how to reject this game but not eventually reject a God of War TAS if it was ever submitted because they are both games that the majority of the gameplay is unrelated to sex but contains a "minigame" of sorts where sex is portrayed on screen.

Yeah, this has been brought up in the game thread. I don't believe it will save 2 minutes like that claims but I know it will save a minute. It just happened that my realization of the fact happened right when my TAS time was cut down to essentially 0. It is on my list of improvements, the issue is that the gliding is so completely random that to make that change would be essentially starting over from that moment and I haven't had time to go through all of that luck manipulation again yet. With any luck I will stop working 16 hour days soon and will be able to get back into this because I do miss working on runs.

I think the symbol should be the mushroom from SMW. It would stick with theme created with the Star and the Moon icons being sprites or (because I haven't actually checked if they are the exact sprite) pretty damn close to the sprite from the game. Additionally it would work as a "New User" icon as for many people who grew up with a Nintendo console as their first introduction to gaming there is a very good chance that a Mario game Mushroom was the first power-up item they ever got in a game.

On 11/24/2012 ~ 1150 Points On 11/25/2012 ~ 600 Points Rough. Edit: Though I see why the change was made it just stung a little to see such a drastic change when all but 2 of my runs had been accepted under the old rules and one of those two had a 6.6 with 3.5 votes.

This is a temporary problem, beat with us on that please.
This was an slightly unnecessary criticism on my part, I just didn't understand why things would have to go to the Submission feed if there wasn't much to vote on since entertainment wasn't a factor. 90% of them haven't received a comment yet.
And this comment is ironic, you stand out to me as one of the biggest critics of game choice rejections. You were quite unhappy with the system back then as I recall. And now, you have what you wanted, and are upset about the quality decrease that resulted, and are still unhappy. From my standpoint you seem awfully hard to please. Btw, your post hurt, pretty bad. I'm sorry the direction of the site has run you off, I truly am.
I apologize if the content of my post was in any way harmful. I was getting angry that many of the arguments people were making were "lol TASVideos is so serious" in response to any criticism posted. It may not be something that I am paid to do, or really even has that huge of an impact on my day to day life, but for the year to year and a half it has been a pretty consistent hobby of mine so I do take it seriously when my hobbies that I could spend hours a week on are affected. I assumed this would be brought up because I did have the "Bad Game Choice" rule thread that I wrote a great deal in but my response is that my mind had changed on the matter. Even within that thread by the end I had come to understand why the rule existed and as time as passed since then have accepted the rule as the standards were working. TASes are a fairly niche market so the idea of only allowing what the group of TASers seemed best became a good idea in my mind. Conversely, as this process has gone along and the reasons for the change have been stated it has made less and less sense to me why the change was necessary, especially until the, in my opinion, broken rating system is adjusted. I have 11 runs currently published and 1 as a result of the new vault system. That one Vault run currently has a higher rating than 4 of my runs that were published before the entertainment rule was dropped and matches another. I believe this for the most part a result of sample size and again believe there needs to be either a new rating system or a new incentive to rate movies so that we can have a better view of where the movies actually are rated. As I said before, I would actually not care if the tier system was implemented or if the bad game choice rule was relaxed if there was a rating system that could sort out the tiers objectively.

Don't worry about him. After all, he's the one who wrote this: Quote: I deliberately picked a boring game just to f**k with tasvideos.
If you actually read the thread that that quote came from instead of just cherry picking you would have realized that that quote along with those surrounding it were a direct quote of AngerFist's (I believe it was 7 or so months ago) post in SwordlessLink Japanese Ocarina of Time thread. I took his post verbatim and changed the words from "language" to "boring" as an attempt at parody as, if you would have checked the date, it was submitted just past midnight but still as close to April 1st as I chose to get with how odd the day was. You will also notice that I removed the said quote because "I edited out the majority of the submission text as the portion was being satirical of the site over the past couple weeks but no one found it funny and people were seeming to get upset with me for my ideas so it is easier to just delete it so I don't have to deal with defending a joke. "
I think he's just trying to troll cause people to quit.
What? How does that quote troll people to quit the site?

So if I remove the icon but leave the flag (so that Movies-AVGN still works) will people still need a Taxi? I'm sorry this single icon has caused so much anger.
This single icon has not caused so much anger. The decisions made over the last week or two have. It changed what the site is about to reward quickly making speedruns of terrible short games so that we could accept runs for a terrible console. Then the submission feed became overwhelmed with old terrible submissions that no one cared about making any new submission being completely overlooked. It wasn't just that we were adding old terrible games but we were now having over a hundred filling our feed. If they were all going to be accepted without a discussion as most of them never got a comment than why not just accept them without going through that process? Then after we accept a ton of terrible games and fill the feed with them so quality falls to the wayside a controversial tiered system that still doesn't make sense is implemented haphazardly and inconsistently making the site potentially more confusing to traverse than having one category with all of the runs. Then finally, we add a new completely unnecessary tier making a logo for games featured on AVGN. This, again, is not only celebrating mediocrity but especially crappy games. The entire site has shifted from the best of the best and high quality entertainment to meh lets take anything and actually direct people to runs of the worst games of the site essentially endorsing one online personality over the hundreds of other video game personalities that could have been featured. All of this only 7 months after the entirely botched April 1st "joke," the huge controversy and to be honest asshole comments that resulted from the newest Ocarina of Time runs and other things mentioned by Abahbob make me agree that I am surprised more people who have been here for years haven't left. I will continue to view some, though far less than I previously did because the average quality has decreased as a result and I will have more to wade through, and maybe make more as it is a fun hobby but I disagree with the direction the site has taken.

As for rating a movie when it is a submission, I thought of that back in 2008. Seemed like a great idea, all those votes would turn into ratings and improve the rating system and give judges more information for judging. But it clearly failed. Instead people rated 10 on movies, to see them published, and ratings were heavily inflated. We reverted back.
That shouldn't be a problem any longer as how entertaining the movie is no longer has a bearing on whether or not it is accepted. I believe trusting the masses is a better choice than trusting the top 5 or 10 members of the site to accurately control where each movie is placed.

I have been thinking and so far I don't believe the system that is in place works and would prefer to revert back unless a change is made. A major problem I see is that currently runs that were good enough to be accepted and runs that are currently only being accepted because they set a record and are ranked in the same way on the site. You may say that we have a rating system in place to prevent that but I strongly believe the largest flaw with TASVideos at current was the rating system in place and not the bad game choice rule. It is probably too late in the game to make this change but what my ideal system is as follows. 1. Do not have tiers. If the volume of publications becomes too large to have a single tier system then implement a tiered system that is solely based on rating removing subjective placement. 2. Revert the moon and star tier to tweaked versions of their previous intentions. ______2.a. Moons will be historically significant TAS'es. This includes the first TAS published on each console (including now obsolete runs), the oldest non-obsolete TAS published on each console, and the highest rated TAS published on each console. There are currently 16 consoles with a TAS published on this site. This means a maximum of 48 runs would be present in this category and, for the foreseeable future, a situation where there will always be fewer than 100 runs in the category. ______2.b. Stars will be the 25 or 50 on the site that most exemplify the TASVideos site. This category would be maintained by the members of the site as the collection that would be the best first impression of TASVideos and where new users should look. This category could contain highly entertaining runs, heavy glitch abuse or other technical feats that would show what this website is about to new users. This category could be created by an upper level user at first but then would require a thread each year in a similar vein to the awards where users discuss and vote on changes to the movies on the list and potentially the order listed. This would mean that that it would be an ever-evolving list of the best first impression movies on the site without being diluted with too large of a number like the current star system is implying. Currently the star system is similar to this but I fear with the current tier system it will soon grow out of control and lose its purpose. 3. Most importantly change the voting system and acceptance system. No longer have "Yes," "No," and "Meh" options but instead simply a "Yes" and "No" category. Upon clicking the "Yes" button the voter would be prompted with the current "The entertainment value of this movie: - " and "The technical quality of this movie: -" rating prompts on the site. When clicking "No" the user will be prompted with "Reason for no vote:" and would have a drop down with reasons for rejecting including "Suboptimal," "Does not complete game," "Non-game" which would be for things like the NES Test Cart or The Fairly Odd Parents "Gameboy Video Version", or "Unworthy" which would again prompt the current rating system so that they could voice their displeasure in the game. I believe this system would be the best solution as it would fix many of the current problems with the site. First, it would fix the rating system which itself is a major step forward. No longer would there be around 40 runs on the site with 3 or fewer ratings. Second it would remove the need for the Bad Game choice due to low entertainment rule as it would be immediately sorted to the lowest entertainment runs on the site. If it really is at such a low level of entertainment it will be reflected in the 10+ ratings it was given upon acceptance as each person who voted on the run was forced to apply a rating. Third it would remove any conflict or argument over which tier a run would be placed in if tiers remained implemented. Users could no longer argue with judges or those who decide the tiers about which level their run was placed in because the masses spoke and that was how the placement was decided. I understand that this idea will most likely not be implemented but I feel if it was it would be a major step in improving this already good site. Other than those changes the only only changes I would like to see in the site is a creation of the ability to attach messages to the ratings to negate arguments about why people gave the rating they did but that is a step I do not believe to be as crucial. TLDR: Come on, you already read 10 pages of this forum. Just read a few more paragraphs.

Rough real-time improvement of 39 frames. Only final fight is modified. I'd improve it stylistic wise and resubmit it, but I doubt that you'd consider this enough work to warrant a co-authorship. Then again, this game's publishability is questionable to begin with. In the end, the important thing is I've proven that you make mistakes, and perhaps this is enough to slow down your NES reign of terror! >_<
If this run is being rejudged then it should be with this version that has some input from Brandon to make the run 39 frames shorter. He doesn't believe it is enough for co-authorship but if a mod will make the adjustment of switching the files they might as well add him on as well. This un-grue process is making me sad and pine for the days when I had time to pump out a TAS every 2 weeks.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with giving more points for runs of popular games.
If I do a run of all 15 Sesame Street games that were created for systems that can be published on this site and then do the 3 Fisher-Price games that were created for the NES and I get a 3.0 on all of them I will get 280 points which is almost equivalent to a single 9.6 run which is the highest rated run on the site. Those 18 games would take me around a day and could be done in almost real-time so probably less than 1,000 re-records between them all. The 9.6 run had 275,000 rerecords and probably took months to complete. Does that seem like a fair reward? And the 3.0 score was chosen as it was the lowest score on the site and only exists because it was an abuse of power by a mod who immediately accepted his run after submitting despite not receiving any votes or comments prior. I don't imagine it will be getting much worse than a 3 on any run.

Would Vault movies have the same player rank formula as the normal movies would, would they not be included at all or would this mean a complete overhaul of the ranking system? This, I believe, is where the problem would arise because while it is just a meaningless number player rank is something that could be a badge of pride. I am not sure how people would feel if I went from having 10 publications and 1024 player points giving me the 34th most player points out of everyone on the site to 14 published movies and 1248 points (assuming I get the same score of 5 as the universally panned Garfield submission) which would move me up to 27th place thanks to 4 crappy movies. Granted those 7 people may also have rejected for bad game choice movies but if I pump out another 10 or so terribly boring movies and get moved up in rank for these crappy movies I don't know if I would feel right. Does having ten extra movies that were actually considered less entertaining than Garfield actually warrant me having a higher ranking than Nahoc, NitroGenesis, or SwordlessLink who are in that list that I would pass. I would feel less proud of my player rank if it started to be more about finding the shortest games out there that are currently unpublished and pumping out the fastest solution rather than having to put in extra work to study the game to find out if it will be entertaining enough or what extra tricks I could integrate to improve entertainment. *Edit* Additionally I think this would ruin April 1st for the site. If the normal April Fool's Day runs were submitted after this rule change then the majority of the runs that are normally jokes would actually be accepted. Granted preserving the fun of April 1 is certainly not a good enough reason to not change a rule, especially about this past years slightly controversial April 1 festivity, but it is just something to think about.

I voted Meh on both this and the Indiana Jones run because neither were entertaining to me. If runs like this were submitted on the NES I would bet the votes would be far more in the No column because it just isn't that entertaining and seems to be getting yes votes for being the first Atari 2600 runs and for it being a "historically significant" game. I think it is cool that we have another system to make TASes for but if these are the best games that the system has to offer I don't know if any deserve to be published under the current site rules of preferring quality over quantity.

I voted Meh. I am not skilled enough in 3D TASes to know for sure if this is suboptimal in any points from a purely speed perspective, but believe like others have said that there are examples where it could potentially be improved. I definitely thought that the entertainment was lacking and it is not due to game choice. There was a large amount of this movie that was just standing around not doing anything and some of the shots were less impressive than one would like. You don't necessarily have to quickly move to an enemy and shoot exactly as you get to their position but it would make it more entertaining and impressive even if the results are the same. My second complaint about the firing is that even in situations where you line up the shot far in advance and just stand around you don't even move to the exact position. Many situations you move to the position of the enemy before they are there, wait around, and then make a minor adjustment immediately before firing. In my opinion if you are going to go with the "line up the shot early" approach than you should at least smoothly line up the shot and not make minor adjustments later that look like the prior placement was an error or not optimal. I also believe, like others have said, that using more memory addresses could help improve the entertainment. You mention that accuracy is terrible without the quick scope, but with the use of memory addresses to guarantee accuracy I would imagine you could avoid popping up the scope and snipe without looking.
