I know the tutorial starts if you read the book. I'm asking for a movie that stops at "thanks for playing", so we could encode the whole tune while it stands on that clear ending screen. Since it's just a couple seconds of input, I don't think it makes this less of a record if it's included in the main movie.

Since we're dumping PSX in bizhawk using native resolution, even for 3D elements (increased internal res is imply not an option there), I think we can avoid increasing internal res in old PSX emulators too. So what you will need is figuring out native in-game resolution and dumping at that.

And the resulting rule has been added to the Standard goals section: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#SecondaryPlaythroughs

We have a dedicated package that resolves tiny subtitle halo in hires (makes subtitles hard to read on bright background): http://tasvideos.org/EncodingGuide/PublicationManual.html#Downloads_2 Also we use vorbis to encode audio for youtube, not aac. Encoder logo looks a bit empty.

Non-official games (hacks, homebrews, etc.) and prototypes wrote:
Non-official games are allowed for submission. However, they go through more scrutiny than other games. This is because the game itself also becomes subject to judgment, so it must meet a minimum standard of quality or notability to be eligible for publication. We look for games that can be played and completed, have some recognition or popularity, or are notable in some other ways as decided by the judge and the audience.
I personally don't feel it meets those standards.

Since the ending in this game is "special", can you post a movie that goes through the credits tablets and stops the movie on "thanks for playing"? Or maybe you wouldn't mind if we used that movie as a replacement, since post-completion input is preferred to be contained in the main movie? Also, which of the RTA branches is meant to apply to this movie, "Any%" or "Any% Current Patch"? Couldn't find explanation of the difference even in their rules.

This TAS is designed with the latest version of SWtG in mind.
Does it have a version information? If they update it and the movie no longer syncs, there needs to be info on what version of the game was used. If it doesn't have a version whatsoever, then at least some hashsums maybe? EDIT: Latest Steam version prints Super Win the Game (1.01.1039) NFML Game Engine (1.08.4348) to the terminal so that's probably it. EDIT: This movie needs workarounds described in Thread #21456: #6564: letcreate123's Linux You Have to Win the Game in 04:46.58 (lib versions may be different).

I think if the game explicitly marks the code as "you're making your life easier through an unfair advantage", we shouldn't use it regardless. If the game explicitly presents you the code as a 100% legitimate way of playing, the current rules allow it. It could be a level select code, and I'd feel uneasy if we ban it for "not skipping directly to loop N". But let's check it against my list.
  • If you can't skip directly to loop N, then it doesn't look like the only difference between with and without the code is difficulty, right?
  • If there are major differences and the modes are completely separate, I personally wouldn't mind skipping to "near" loop N.
  • If they have similarities but can still be separate branches, it could be discussed whether we want to allow skipping to "near" loop N. I wouldn't mind banning that.
  • If we want both in one, the problem is non-existent.

However, this does not address the initial question, which was "how should these be classed?"
  • If the 2 quests are identical aside from difficulty, using a code to play the hardest difficulty qualifies for Standard. Or if hardest difficulty is not worth it for that game, first quest belongs to Standard instead.
  • If there are major differences between the 2 quests, they are just separate modes and are both eligible for Standard.
  • If the differences are not major enough for separate modes, but significant enough for separate branches, I'm not sure which we want to pick for Standard - fastest or hardest?
  • Finally if the differences are not significant enough to have them as separate branches, we should prefer both quests in one movie.
Opinions?

That's one link to one page containing everything. Not links to pages containing specific lists.

Still, I think that the list of recently published movies should be more informative, by displaying the movie flags. Except for the fastest-completion flag, for which I'd rather suggest to have a separate list for it, as well as a separate list for full-completion. That way, there would be three lists of recently published movies: fastest-completion, full-completion, Moons (or "other-goals"). Opinions?
I would support having links to those specific lists, presented on their respective pages.

Since the improvements are still coming, should I set this submission to Delayed? By the sound of it, the chance of finding even more is quite high. Which is why I'm not replacing the movie just yet.

From what people told me in the chat, second quest of Zelda is just an entirely different game mode, and we allow that for Vault Standard even with a password.

Verifying the hell out of http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/PCem/DOS/Configurations.html almost drove me crazy with how many md5 hashes I had to check. Even more to come now that we accept llibTAS+PCem submissions. So I needed some incredibly quick way to know a hash of some file, or of all files in a folder. Drag'n'drop feels like the quickest way. Unfortunately, lubuntu doesn't let you drag'n'drop onto scripts, but you can make a script launch a terminal and repeatedly accept your drag'n'drops, printing stuff. So here's a script that you usually run on Linux, because it's a Shell script. But if you are on Windows and you associate this file with your mingw64.exe or whatever you're using, double-clicking on the script will launch you a nice md5-drag-n-drop terminal! Supports paths with spaces and nested folders. Props to mjbudd77 and F. Hauri. Download md5.sh
Language: shell

#!/bin/bash echo -ne "\033]0;Drag & drop file or folder\007" while IFS=$'\t\r\n' read -d '' -rsn 1 str && [ "$str" ]; do while IFS= read -d '' -rsn 1 -t .02 char; do str+="$char" done if [ "$str" ]; then find "$str" -type f -exec md5sum {} \; fi done
Suggest improvements!

I see my suggestion was ignored. Can anyone please at least implement the Moons icons? As the site is now, it's only displaying Stars icons, effectively putting Moons tier on the same visibility as the new Standards tier. We don't want to hide Moons just to make the lowest tier look less crappy, so pretty please implement the Moons icon in the recent publications list.
The problem is that it would make the Moons class look special again, kinda above Standard which doesn't have an icon. The two classes are equal now. Stars are above both, so they are highlighted.

Second quest/Post-game completion I think if this goal can be accessed via in-game codes, results in higher difficulty or a true ending, and there's no content difference in gameplay between loops, we should prefer that goal and publish it to Standard. In some games your stats carry over from the first loop, and you can beat the second loop faster using those, but still accessing it directly through a password makes the game harder, so I think it's a valid goal on its own. In some games like Ghosts'n'Goblins you can't skip the easier loop, and so far the tradition has been to just beat the first one, even though it doesn't give the true ending. But what do we do with movies that just play both modes? Should they obsolete single-mode ones? Are there ever situations when we would not want single-loop movies to be obsoleted, and instead have them as a separate branch? It'd feel strange to reject such a movie, but are there situations when it's warranted?

I thing just "horror" is enough, because not all horror games are also survival.

Another tag that needs addressing is pacifist. While the guidelines suggest it should be placed when it either loses time or is a stylistic choice, it does not mention what should be done if it saves time. If it saves time to avoid enemies, I feel it is no longer a relevant tag. Otherwise huge amounts RPGs would get the tag. I feel it should be used only if it loses time, is neutral time save, or is a challenge recognized in-game like Undertale.
I agree - pacifist tag only makes sense if one of the following apply: • it is an explicitly recognized achievement in-game • it is a deliberate decision to avoid killing enemies, that results in a slower run-time • it is equal in time, but the player has to deliberately go out of the way to achieve it If being pacifist is the fastest option, then it's nothing special, and should not be labeled as such.
I don't have any counter-points.

While I like the term "bootleg" for unauthorized modifications or franchise usage, it'd be nice to distinguish that from things like Camerica games: original games that just didn't get the official license. Do you think that'd make sense?

Should we also apply the forgoes tag to movies if a branch split occurs and the technique is not used in the branch containing an older publication, even if said technique was not known at the time?
If we want to create rules that highlight all sorts of movie goals, we need tags describing those goals to be indicative of whatever the contemporary situation with the branches is. While the game-changer technique might have been unknown in the past, movies not using it may still be obsoleted by new movies that don't use it. Avoiding the technique effectively becomes a goal on its own, if there are branches that we distinguish based on this technique and its usage. We need it for proper classification, so setting it retroactively isn't a bad thing.

From Discord:
Movie > Play Movie always reports 60fps inputs despite for example KonamiGX games (Gokujou Parodius) running at 59.186fps by design. This causes input desyncs at random sections when playing the .bk2 file via that method.
