The Recommended list is about to be untied off the Stars list, to allow stars tier be actually a tier for all best runs (now it's selective). Staff discussion dwelled on a list of 10 (probably 15) movies of widely famous games that blow up the newcomer's brain, namely by playing the game the most impossible way. Please post your suggestions in this thread! Thread #13457: The run that blew your mind
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Staff discussion dwelled on a list of 10 (probably 15) movies of widely famous games that blow up the newcomer's brain, namely by playing the game the most impossible way. Example: SM64 "0 stars" SM "Reverse Boss Order" Mega Man 2 (the first game run just breaks it all apart, while this one still shows the intended route, even raping it hard). Share your feelings you experienced with such mind-escaping runs. All your suggestions are going to be taken in a final poll, just please post honestly ;) REASON: We want to SEPARATE current Stars which are now equal to Newbie-Rec, into 10-15 Newbie-Rec and a solid list of starred movies to represent the highest tier. And I want to use people's feelings about the most impressive runs during years here. For me, what I mentioned were probably the first tases I saw, and still nothing overpowered that impression, and still both runs are alive and well. This is NOT about lowering the stars standsard! It's about picking all movies that meet it, not dropping out-of-quota tases. ALSO: suggest the newbie-recommended icon here, since I think stars must keep their meaning of the highest tier.

I think this movie's branch must be changed to none, and the 1 player movie by Aglar - to "1 player". Since "2 player" is default as long as it's faster.

As we have a "Welcome!" anouncement for first time visiters, brief tier explanation may be done just like that, disappearing on the next visit. Just give a link to the news item inside that box.

You're right, but when I think of 3 tiers only (vault, nothing, moons), when the stars are just a flag, then we get an overload of icons for movies that are starred, because having a star, a moon, a bolt and something else is TOO MUCH. That's why I thought stars after all can be the fourth tier above those 3 (vault, nothing, moons). And what you're talking about is called borderline. Surely some runs in the vault are going to look like they deserve moons, or vice versa. That's why we need to speak of every "wrong-tiered" run openly and move it if necessary. Post #331178

[1665] GBA Sonic Advance by Mukki in 10:46.52 [1958] GBA Sonic Advance 2 by Mukki in 18:01.78 Would people object starring both Sonic Advance 1 and 2? I felt the runs are too similar for that, but each one showcases slightly different features (not speaking of unique tas methods). I found sa1 scorecount really annoying, but it's run features constant wall-zipping with a funny animation. sa2 looks like a better game with cool moveset and without scorecounts, but it just runs through relatively near the intended way. I'd wish to move the sa2 star to sa1, but people seemed to disagree with such option. List the advantages of sa2 as a TAS (like, showcases unique tasing methods and skills different from sa1) if you want both starred, or highlight why one is better than another. Replies like "both need stars because 3 megamen and 3 smbs have stars" would be ignored.

The question is, shall I make standard encodes that look as death, or encode all bright and add an original youtuber as an option? Bright encode would be added optionally anyway, if I have to stick to the former, which I wouldn't wish. Well, in James Bond that darkeining MIGHT stand for atmosphere and all, but in Felix, it's JUST WEIRD. Also, Lungle Book "day" looks like all jungle is in smoke.

I'm currently processing the publication for Jungle Book and want to suggest the rule that those 3 games must be encoded with the above patches applied, because with bright enough colors they all look incredible, while dull dark palette kills some of the entertainment of the TASes of them.

To be well-founded, please post in the stars thread what was arbitrarily starred.

I'm going to rewrite the encoding manual, to cover everything from installing codecs to the publication routine. This could help to request for new publishers to handle zombies.

I second this hard. Whould actually be informative tag. Just a yellow C letter. Won't distract, as few runs feature comments.
