Rerecords are calculated differently on openMSX since it uses the concept of replay files & "rewinding". MSX rerecord counts are going to be significantly lower than on other emulators.

VBA-rr v23.2 This fixes a lot of the regressions from v22-v23 Fixes since 23.1: 11-04-2010 aquanull - Added a "New Folder" button to all directory browse dialogs. 11-04-2010 aquanull - Fixed the old bug that the movie reset signal could improperly persist after loading a savestate. 11-04-2010 aquanull - Fixed the bug that no old-timing reset would be appended after loading a movie savestate taken right after a new-timing reset occurred. 11-01-2010 aquanull - Fixed quick screenshots. Now existing files are not overwritten. 11-01-2010 aquanull - Taking quick screenshots frame by frame is allowed if Frame Advance is being used. 11-01-2010 aquanull - VBA now only creates the default directories if necessary. 11-01-2010 aquanull - Fixed RAM Watch so that it uses the configured directory.

Well, I was hoping for more discussion than this but ok. I am going to accept this movie as an improvement to the published movie and based on the fact that I deem this to be the preferred version over the GBC due to the GBC version having increased lag and useless minigames.

Perhaps there could be a 2-player play-around as well as a speed run...
I don't know. Is this really a good choice for a 2-player play around? It is a rather clunky game. Surely there is better fighting game choices for this. Now, a 2-player any% run, perhaps that would be a better TAS that could obsolete this one. But I am a bit skeptical since it would just be the same glitch, but 2 players doing it to two other opponents. Though that would be twice the amount of light speed elbows to the nads!

I'm not really seeing 'entertainment lost' with this new video. The previous video looks to be nearly the same combo repeated numerous times. Also, I laughed every time during the knockout round, when the enemy would stand up and hit his head against the player's elbow.
I agree with DarkKobold

If you freeze 0x0052 to 2 and play the game, do you always spawn with a gray snifit? Or is it other enemies?

According to my spreadsheet, 0x0052 is the enemy slot #4 initialization address. So it is no surprise that with that value positive, an enemy will appear. But that does give a clue as to what might be going on. My guess is that a killed enemy in the previous screen didn't get reset to 0. I bet it is a gray snifit either because that is the first enemy type loaded for that screen, or it happens to be 0 in a table of enemy types (and the address for the enemy type is probably 0 at this point).

So, I was playing this game for fun and got to 1-3. I went into the bird head and appeared in Mouser's room holding a Snifit. This confirms the glitch that CtrlAltDestroy said he got while playing it on the Wii. The auto-save function of FCEUX was a life saver, I rewinded as far as it would let me and recorded a movie of it happening: Snifit Glitch Now, somebody try to figure out WHY it happened. Depending on what circumstances it takes for it to happen it could save time in 1-3, and very likely would save time in 3-3.

I think what he means by bookmark is a way to resume watching from where he left off, in which case yes there is. Simply make a savestate. When you want to resume, open the replay file (in read-only mode) and load that state.

VBA-rr v23 - Download here Changelog is included. There are a number of significant fixes to movie recording (fixing a lot of input & crash bugs) as well as a lot of new feature enhancements. It is highly recommended to upgrade to this version.

Hey, here's a crazy idea. Why don't we have just one embedded movie in the submission text?

I'd say the GB version is better in this case. A memory mini-game has no TAS value whatsoever, so it adds a boring game to the TAS, multiple times, making it a lot more repetitive. Also, the GB version is laggy enough as it is, more lag makes it look even worse. I think these factors outweigh the benefit of having the GBC platform.

The rules too explicitly say GBC > SGB > GB basically. However, my question is if the physics are the same. Much the TAS value of this movie is manipulating the oscillating speed, lag reduction, damage boosting, etc. The speed oscillation being the the most important imo. If that isn't the case in the GBC version, I wouldn't want it to be preferred.

That's funny, I started this game some time in 2007 like you did, then I completely forgot about it. A few days ago I found my WIP and had plans to finish it. I guess I can go ahead and get rid of it. Glad to see this TAS improved. It is a deceptively complex game for TASing, and I'm glad to see it TASed on a high level.

You can always compile the MSVC version. But if you don't update it to the latest official FBA core, please don't upload your build to my Google project.
Which is YOUR googlecode project? The FBA google code? or your personal one that has the latest release in it? IMO, the current SVN of FBA should be branched to a 4.2 branch (or whatever I called it), and the one in your personal SVN should be moved in as the main svn project

I was disappointed at the idea of it being a spy hunter type overhead auto-scroller. However, I was impressed by the sheer amount of mayhem in this TAS! It might be a bit repetitive, but it is only 4 minutes. The length is good for the type of TAS. I vote a solid yes.

In practice though, almost everything is going to get solid Tech = yes votes. And I've noticed that the more the game is boring, the more likely people will say "Looks well done, but the game is meh". I guess it is human nature to want to have something positive to say as consolation. As far as forcing a post, the main reason this wasn't done is because it is going to cause less people to vote rather than more people to comment. If nothing else because voting is fun & easy, posting is more work. Despite how seriously the issue is being taken in this thread, submitting, voting, and commenting, are fun hobbies. And that element of fun should be the main focus of decisions ultimately.

I'll throw another yes vote on this. I had no idea the published movie could be improved THAT much, wow. Also, I don't think this would not have been rejected on game choice today, it is a pretty cool game and this TAS rips it apart.
