I vote yes, I was most definitely entertained. Most entertaining A2600 submission so far :)

Don't be rude. The guidelines have changed and we are massively unrejecting. The moon category is more open to esoteric goals like this. However, I think the problem now is that this movie probably looks massively outdated compared to current SM64 TASes

it fail again too, for precisely the same reason. If you like the movie, anything less than a 10 risks it being vaulted, and you wouldn't want that. Also, give this system a chance a little bit before you decide that a few people are incapable of keeping the tiers staight. One of the next logical steps is to have a specialized role for maintaining tiers (expand the starman role?). And guidelines for this would involve paying attention the rating. A movie gets Vaulted, and gets rated high, it has a chance. However, I don't find ratings accurate enough to trust this system to be automated.

As for rating a movie when it is a submission, I thought of that back in 2008. Seemed like a great idea, all those votes would turn into ratings and improve the rating system and give judges more information for judging. But it clearly failed. Instead people rated 10 on movies, to see them published, and ratings were heavily inflated. We reverted back.

Yes, but we should judge it based on the standards of today shouldn't we?

I run does not have to be known perfect to be published. It just needs to show itself as skillful. Does this movie meet that criteria?

In hindsight, this is a really funny (and entertaining) submission. It is a classic example of "give a kid a toy and he ends up playing with the box" which is something we strive for on this site. I'm giving it a yes vote, I was definitely entertained.

I don't suppose this person would be willing to submit their movie?

According to the Vault rules, this is not eligible for the vault, because it is a human vs single CPU in a board game. However, there are fight scenes, so it isn't entirely such.

I have to agree with FractalFusion here. We should reject this movie in favor of the "full" game that does not use what is normally considered cheats (even though they are in the manual).

I unobsoleted this movie and sent it to the Vault tier. The Arcade version is preferred and has a (slightly) greater entertainment value (according to the voters and raters). However, this is a TAS record in its own right, and fits in with the Vault rules

I actually canceled it. Should I just un-cancel it w/permission?
You don't need permission to uncancel your own submission :P

Just for clarification, are we Unrejecting all the games we rejected for bad game choice? Because I submitted 2 Marios Time Machine videos last year and I think that was considered "Bad Game Choice" after submiting the second one.

Well, the vault allows for quality movies with known improvements. I would hate to set a precedent of a rejection over 18 frames. However, we all know the correct solution here. Some one needs to improve the published movie, and make it entertaining. Then we have 1 awesome movie, instead of 2 with problems.

I would be open to a tier between moon and vault. However, I struggle when it comes to writing up a good description that allows a judge and viewer to be able to logically distinguish between them. It needs to be more than just "movies that would or wouldn't have been rejected in the past". We need wording going forward. So, write up a proposal and post it here! Something along the lines of [http://tasvideos.org/Vault.html]. I'll seriously consider it. BrandonE posted one for the concept/demo type tier earlier in this thread . This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not quite ready to add any tiers now, but in the next coming weeks/months, I will be revisiting these.

I think this is long overdue. But especially with the Tier system, and the fact that this movie is in the [http://tasvideos.org/Vault.html]Vault[/url] that its obsoleted status should be revisited. I set a precedent for preferring the original version of a game with this obsoletion. Now I'm setting another precedent. The gameplay here is different enough from the SMS version to warrant its own publication. The threshold for game similarity is relaxed for the [http://tasvideos.org/Moon.html] and negligible for the Vault.

The published movie is slower, but for the sake of entertainment. Well, the entertainment rating doesn't particularly suggest much success in that area. So this is the fastest version of this game, so it is eligible for the vault. However, should we have this fast movie, and the "more entertaining" movie in the moon tier? Or this movie could obsolete the published movie, and be published in the vault. Or it could obsolete and be published in the moon tier! Afterall, it is a popular game with a lot of entertainment value for a number of people.

You've mentioned a form of gamification where you reward people who make the most entertaining games with a higher score of some kind. That's good, but I think you might want to go a bit further, and actually make a point to recognize people who have really high scores. Something like a list of the top 10 TASers. Or if you want to be less competitive about it, just occasionally have a "featured TASer" on the main movie page that's selected from amongst the top TASers that are still around.
These are all interesting ideas I had not considered. Thank you, I will keep these in mind.

It is the best suggestion I can think of, and I don't see a better suggestion here. I also disagree with your assessment that their meaning was changed drastically. I see them as very similar to their old meaning.

So this movie is an interesting case for the the Vault. The logic for abusing death in cases where there is infinite continues from the place you left off is sound, for entertainment value. But the vault isn't about entertainment value, so should this rule not apply? A deathless record is still the most impressive record here is it not? We should strive for the vault to have impressive records, even if entertainment value is not considered.

This movie by the current rules of the Vault this movie seems eligible. But I think it provides a good test case. We want to accept versions of games on other platforms, but how similar is too similar? Is this too similar even for the Vault?

Yes, but if the next levels are more difficult, then maybe the stopping point should be when the game is no longer more challenging

Doesn't the game increase in difficulty after the first level?
