Encoding this run seems problematic. I have a ROM that matches the movie checksum. I have set it to the proper setting: Realtime ON, Flash 128k. But I still just get a white screen. Also, it says you used VBA19.2, but I am using 19.4 could this be the problem? EDIT: Nevermind, apparently you need to load the rom, change the settings, and then reset the game. This probably should be mentioned somewhere. The rom works. Now let's hope it syncs.

I voted no. Many situation don't look like they were handled with frame precision which hurt the enjoyment factor of it. If it can be improved it should. If it can't be improved then it is a problematic game for TASing. Only about half the game was entertaining. The other half bored me. Even the good half was only marginally entertaining. For the type of game that it is, I think the length is problematic too. Also, is there a (U) version of this game? If so, what is its name? Overall, I have to vote no. Though if it were improved by a large margin somehow, I might be open to voting yes.

This statement should set example for everyone how you should treat someone who improves your run. Spoken like a true gentleman. Kudos AKA.
I agree totally. EDIT: Btw, I have already begun encoding the movie. Since I have all the scripts ready to go from the last one, this should be done quick.

While it may be debateable on a conceptual level, there is no question as to which choice makes for the most entertaining movie. Swimming level without the speed boost from holding onto an item = snooze.

Easy yes vote. I think that the goals of this movie are well designed for maximum impressiveness & entertainment. I loved the run. The concept of show boating in a TAS has been taken to a new level. The run proves that exits can be taken quickly and elegantly without the aid of a cape. Many of the solutions were quite suprising. My only beef with the run is that you didn't end of with 99 lives, only 96. This looks like poor planning and is thus noticeable flaw in the run. 3 more extra lives could have easily been obtained in one of the auto-scrolling levels. In the grand scheme of things, this is a minor flaw though. If someone was insane enough to improve the run, then I would hope that would get corrected. Generally, I am opposed to having many categories for a game, but I think this one should be published along side the other two Super Mario World movies. It compliments them well; showing off stuff that they never get an opportunity to show off. Also, excellent job on your first submission :)

Nice improvement. The movie is noticeably more polished looking. Voting yes.

why aq=1? aq=0 is a higher quality setting that produces slightly smaller filesizes. It is slightly slower, but audio encoding is very fast anyway (especially mono audio as in the case of NES encodes).

I also think this should obsolete JXQ's run. I am also not interested in a glitchless run or an arbitruary set of glitch allowances. Glitchless will show off the game, but the game is long and not nearly as interesting. Setting a set of rules as to which glitches are usuable or in what context seems ...well, silly. Also, you won't get everyone to agree on which glitches to use.

Well, if you are redoing anyway, there is a mistake at around frame 39100. Instead of juming and missing the ledge and jumping back up, jump sooner so you don't hit the ledge the first time. I did the highest jump I could at frame 39037 and then a long jump and the first frame possible for the next jump. It seems I was about 4 frames faster than you by doing this. I didn't try to optimize it more, perhaps more could be saved.

Nice to see this movie improved :) And this is an end of an era was the last non-obsoleted morimoto movie. This problem is that I get a desync using FCEU .16 (though you said you used that one). It happens around 44360. You try to jump over that pit and fail. Your character dies and then it plays around on the title screen for the rest of the movie. The rom checksum matches up as well.

Wow. The current published run is one of my favorite on the site and this movie cuts it in half Oo. It also retains all the elements that made it my favorite: fast movements, unexpected glitches, insane amounts of critical hits on bosses. So I give this a huge yes vote. Good job longstreamofrandomlowercaseconsonants for improving SHORTSTREAMOFRANDOMCAPITALCONSONANTS's movie.

1) I have no idea about the input thing, it has no bearing on the game at least. 2) Yes, the difficulty only affects boss health. 3) I will use death as a shortcut if it is faster. The scenario you mention in lv3 wouldn't make anything faster. 4) I have no desire to do 100% kills. It would likely add a lot of lag in addition to have to stop or turn around to kill things. I think it may be less entertaining overall.

I've been working on TAS for this game. Here is a WIP of the first 2 levels. This WIP is 765 frames faster than Shakespeare's submitted movie. I think this game is a very publishable game. It is very similar to Contra (no suprise that I am working on it ;P). Any comments are welcome.

The only ones I am familiar with are SNES1.43 movies might have less lag than they should. What movies do you speak of FODA?

I remember voting no for both Guybrush and Scubed's submissions for poor game choice/poor goals. So I expected to vote no for this as well. I was pleasantly suprised though. I was entertained enough to watch the whole movie. The death shortcuts were especially nice and both saved a lot of time and avoided a lot of repetitive backtracking. The rooms look more optimized than Scubed's as well and I was suprised by some of your solutions in the bonus levels. I give this a solid yes vote. Though I still think it barely meets site standards in terms of game choice. I worry that the lack of popularity of the game will be a problem though. Also, I am not sure the differences between the J & U versions. If someone submitted a faster version using the U rom, would that stir up controversy?

This was a pleasure to watch. I had never seen this game before and was pleasantly suprised. The game itself is awesome. The character has a detachable head, nuff said. It is entertaining to watch for someone who has never played it, which is good because it seems that many haven't. The run is very nice. You clearly did your homework with testing/optimizing. Excellent work. I also was a fan of what you did during wait times, like after boss fights :) Easy yes vote.

I voted meh. JXQ said about everything I have to say. I wasn't bored nor was I particularly entertained. The music annoyed me though.

Pros: * Good technical quality. Nothing stuck out as improvable with this movie. It certainly meets site standards. Though, since I am not familiar with the game, I have no way of knowing if the route is optimal or not. * Uses programming errors/unexpected play. It does show a superplay of this game; showing something unexpected (the ladder glitch). Cons: It is just not an interesting game. The first time you did the ladder glitch I was thinking "hmm, I'm not sure that was intended by the game or not" so I read the submission text. Other than that moment, nothing peaked my interest. I will vote meh with a leaning towards no. If this were a published movie were published I would rate it with a 4,7 or 4,8.

I would be interested in seeing an improvement of this game. The current run needs updating badly. I think it should be 2-player. That would make it more interesting and save a lot of time. Plus the 2 players can hurt each other, which might make for some creative time-savers. And if not, they could at least beat the crap out of each other during wait times :)

The point is that the game must be unaltered. Who would for example enjoy a TAS of SMB3 if there was an emulator glitch that allowed the player to run just run through any wall? It wouldn't be the same game anymore.
Exactly. Also, if such things were allowsed to be published, why not patch emulators to perform other emulation bugs? Perhaps even ones that would be entertaining to watch? It sucks that vaulable work will be made invalid due to such a bug, but this can't be published. Kudos to dwedit for figuring this out. Sorry to FODA & team for having their time wasted :(
