Nice job, I was unable to get that strat to work in my tests. Oh well, I guess I didn't try hard enough. Good job.

I'll have to consent to the above two posts. We have Marble Madness published on two different systems; why should this be any different?
A valid question. The two version of Marble Madness have gamplay differences that result in drastic differences in the TASes (i.e. the gens version has many radical shortcuts that the nes does not). There isn't enough gameplay differences between these two (wonder boy vs ai) to warrant having both. As far as the movie lengths, Wonderboy has 4 more levels that Adventure Island does not. Therefore, the fact that the movie is longer does not mean it is "slower" in terms of optimization.

I think any of the 1st 3 are way better than the current screenshot. I like the 1st one the best though.

Because it isn't possible to kill everything. At least according to the previous 100% kills movie.

Hmm, I think you missed out a corner boost or two
I think we probably didn't. We were thorough in checking them. Keep in mind that not every one is profiatble. The amount of subpixel/pixel gain did not always make up for the loss to get in the corner.

I didn't want it to get old. So I tried to use it sparingly. Also thanks to Xkeeper for showing this one in the "Just be funny" thread. Also, thanks for the comments everyone :)

Yes vote. Also, I claim for encoding. But I will wait a few days in case more improvements show up.

It is indeed shame that some movies sit longer than others. I'll be happy to publish some encodes. You can PM a link or DCC on IRC. Thanks.

I like this improvement, the use of the 2nd player was clever. I also this game flickers & lags terribly. Adding more lag & sprite flicker from always having 2 players sounds like an awful idea. The game hurts my eyes as is. Anyway, yes vote.

Well, we have 2 published movies of this game. This one certainly doesn't qualify to beat the 100% kills movie. The other movie I am not sure about. Is it just a any% movie? Does it just try to be entertaining? I will have to review that movie before making a verdict here. As far as this movie goes, I didn't particularly enjoy it. I also don't see consistent goals. The use of options to make words is nice (but no longer novel) but I had a hard time see what you were writing. The other patterns were rather chaotic. Also, LAG. Lots of it. This is both bad if aiming for time (which you indicate that you did) and aesthetically. All in all, I say it fails to exploit the full potential of this game and I have to vote no. I do think a movie which aims for 100% kills, aims for fastest time when possible, and uses options to create "art" is possible. This type of movie could obsolete both published movies.

My average is probably 25-50 hours though I've never really paid attention to that. If I am really motivated on a run, I might put in about 8-16 hours per week on it. And I finish a movie every two months or so. It is hard to say though because if varies so greatly. Cardboard and I probably spend 100 hours each on the super mario bros. 2 runs; whereas I spent about 9 hours on the beavis and butthead movie I did afterwards. Also, the amount of work someone does in their time varies greatly depending on the TASer.

Very awesome game and very big improvement. Also, I used Gimmick! (J).nes and the checksum matched Deign's .fcm as well as the published movies. I think NVA may be incorrect in indicating it is a ad dump. (And yes vote)

the problem is most likely that one of you has PRG0 and the other has PRG1

Mortal Kombat shows off various stuff and cool quirks and does not blantant and needslessly waste time This movie is nothing more than a pride movie playing for ego so 'no' vote. EDIT: The movie fails to be objective and often takes time out inexcusably like hitting the other player for no good, reason. I.e. hitting your ally for no good reason just for the sake of surprise. Its mentioned in the guidelines somewhere along the lines of don't surprise the player for no good reason like jumping into a pit.

Since you have improved almost the whole movie, you should cancel this submission and submit your new movie as a new submission.

I enjoyed this movie a little more than the previous and a good bit more than the current air publication. I vote yes to the movie and yes to obsoleting air.

This was a fairly entertaining movie. The game was nice to watch and there were a number of tricks. The glitch where you confused the game into taking you to lv 6 was quite goofy. That made me laugh. I vote yes.

This movie is very dull. The game is just a move (slowly) to the right, and avoid enemies. The speed boost from enemies was nice but not enough to carry the movie. I have to vote no.

Just watched this and noticed the end score screen never disappears, so the credits look odd. It's not a big deal to me since the gameplay isn't affected, but I know a lot of people are picky about their AVIs so I thought I'd point it out.
Bleh, you seem to be right. Best guess I have is that mencoder was closed and/or crashed before completion of the final pass. If that happened, I certainly didn't notice. Oh well, I am reruning the final pass now and will post an updated avi.

I procrastinated on watching this because I was dreading another PoP run. For some reason, I hate PoP and PoP-style games. But I was pleasantly suprised on this one. It had a lot of action, acrobatics, glitches, and shortcuts. The downside to the run is that it is a bit long, but all of it is entertaining material. So I give this a yes vote.

It would be convenient to be able to select individual hotkeys for each state being saved and loaded, rather than having a generic save and load button, with individual state selection buttons. Example setup for this would be to use 1 to load state 1, Shift+1 to save state 1, 2 and shift+2 to load and save state 2, etc.
Most emulators have both ways as standard features. So this would be a nice addition.

The map parts not interesting at all, and seem to dominate the movie content. The platforming parts are nice & entertaining. I wish there were more of them. I loved that you managed to lap the guy at the last second in the 1st race. Other than that though, the races were uninteresting. Racing games of that nature tend to not be successful TASes because the optimal solution is to simply hug corners which is obvious to the viewer. I didn't understand Barney's role in the game at all. Is he a 2nd player? controlled by the 1st player? Whatever his purpose was, it wasn't entertainment. Also, I am sad that this isn't a 2-player simultaneous game. That might have had some interesting results in the (few) platforming levels. Overall, I have to vote no. There wasn't enough good TAS content in this movie.

Having learned the current naming system, I really have no problems with it anymore (desensitized most likely). But moving to a new system might be nice. Though I don't much care either way I guess. I agree with Bisqwit about lower case letters + special characters and also that it would need to basically be done all at once with all previous filenames. That sounds like a cumbersome task though. If Bisqwit wants to do that, I'd be glad to assist in any way I can.

This is "Season 3" of the famtasia challenge (began in Jan. 2006). There are only 7 left and I want 2008 to be the big year. Let's finish! I intend to do all myself if I have to, but I really hope to motivate some folks to join in and help :)
