I could easily finish the boss without dying at the same time. But some others said it should be like this. I'd appreciate more feedback from others.

Just use the turbo hotkey (Tab by default). If you are interested in helping we would be glad to have you, there is plenty of stuff to do.

I really haven't heard an even remotely good argument why this concept of choosing stars is bad.
He just gave you an argument: Grouping the movies then assigning one of them a star results in picking the best of the group, which may not necessarily be a star quality movie as a result. You may not agree with it, and it may not be reason enough to form these groups, but it is an argument nonetheless.

I'll add Mike Tyson's Punch-out and Super Punch-out to the list. (At the risk of looking egotistical).

I took that out of Guidelines a long time ago. Reason being that I thought it did not belong there, with the page being a guideline page about movies themselves.
Good. I never liked that being in there either. Especially since we don't reject movies based on the author or his intentions. Also, I think we are all guilty of TASing for ego, to at least some degree.

FODA's Adventure Island submission is the record. It stayed in queue for 2 years. EDIT: JXQ's skate or die submission is an interesting one in that it was his first submission but it was about his 13th published movie :)

I'm sure I have a lot more opinions than this, but here are some suggestions: Don't Star any SMB/SMB2j runs any Zelda movies these movies generally entertain only those familiar with the game, and not a mass audience. As a result they violate one of the star guidelines. Star SMB2u warpless instead of SMB2u warps. There isn't anything in the warps that isn't in the warpless. Plus the warpless shows off a lot of tricks/glitches not in the warps. It also presents the most colorful and interesting levels of the game. Nightmare on Elm street 4 - player This isn't the most entertaining movie we have but it is definately a "must see". If someone ever does a more impressive 4 player run, it can take its star perhaps. SM - 100% and no other SM runs. I personally think the SM runs lack variety to anyone not familiar with the routes so I think only 1 should be starred. And the 100% runs have historically got the most votes, most attention, and highest ratings. River City Ransom Playaround. Playarounds are a part of this site, but a lot of newcomers don't realize that. If not this movie, some playaround needs to be demonstrated, to show off this element of TASing.

Wow, I didn't expect this TAS be this good. I was amazed throughout. And a huge improvement over the previous movie. Excellent work sir. Very high ratings from me.

The difference between those movies is that one doesn't use the key combo L+R or U+D. That is a pretty non-subjective category, if you ask me.

I just want to say I support mmbossman's decision here. He had to make a tough call, and I think his reasoning is valid. In comparison to the 4 published movies, this has little to offer. The category is vague, is not the lowest% possible, and the criteria requires a subject decision as to what glitches can or cant' be used. In general, such categories are problematic and frowned up on this site. For the most part this is a movie for those speedrunner/TASers that might be interested in, but for a general audience, it is just more of the same. Again, TASvideos has always tried to favor movies for a general audience and not those that are for a specific circle Also, this situation kind of reminds me of the CCCLess SM64 run. I also am of the opinion that the low% movie that is published is more entertaining than this.

Not that I object to it, but does this mean a 1/3 of the list will contain Mega Man games?
I think Baxter is capable of a bit more objectivity than that. Also, for the record, I think it would be a good idea to put Baxter in charge of stars. He seems to have a lot of enthusiasm for them (something Bisqwit never really had), and I think he could be impartial enough to take a more objective approach. Also, if we have put a limit to the number of stars, I think it should be a percentage of the total published movies, say 5%. The total publications is around 500 at the moment, so that would give us about 25 stars to work with. It also helps define the star categories. The top 5% (as decided by Baxter)

It's actually the excact opposite, which you would know if you'd read this thread. The only person who disagreed on this is Tub.
Make that 2 people who favor the 6% run.

It is most likely a config problem. Next time it happens, can you try just moving your config to a different directory, restarting fceux and see if it still happens. Probably not. If so, please upload the config somewhere so we can check it out and debug a bit :)
Thanks for the help, it was indeed the config file that's the problem here. By replacing it with a fresh one, the problem was solved. But because all mapped hotkeys and such were reset too, it's not a good solution for me. Here's my config-file if someone wants to take a look.
The x,y coordinates of memwatch are getting set to -32000. Open the file with wordpad and notice these lines: MemWatch_wndx -32000 MemWatch_wndy -32000 Reset these to 0 and you should be fine. FCUEX has protections for this even where it resets it to 0. I thought they were in .2 but I guess not. Upgrading should prevent this, if not, let me know.

Ok, that did it. Interesting bug. Now for one thing, you shouldn't be trying to resize with the Special Scaler set! That sets the size for you. The normal behavior of FCEUX is to prevent you from resizing in that instance. But in 3x it happens to produce that bug. 2x does not. EDIT: Fixed, and http://fceux.com updated.

It is also particularly hard to fix vague crash bugs when I can't reproduce them. FCEUX hasn't crashed one time for me since it was released. And the past 4-5 non crashing bug reports are also things I have never experienced. FCEUX seems to behave quite differently from one computer to the next :/

So yeah, it is the USB keyboard. It is probably that particular one is causing some keyboard codes that FCEUX isn't recognizing. There is already a similar bug report where the special buttons such as volume up/down cause weird behavior. We have attempted to fix that but so far no success. In the meantime try using a regular keyboard if you have one laying around.

The problem is that you can't conveniently suicide a player, as that stops the screen movement. You could wait until a boss, but then your weapons will not inflict as much damage on that boss. Either way, you are losing a lot more than 27 frames.

Is this a laptop or possibly USB keyboard? I can't recreate your problem on my PC, so I am not sure what the problem is. Still, in general, on emulators I would avoid using ctrl, alt, or shift as hotkeys. EDIT: http://fceux.com interim build updated. I removed the accel keys table from the main window. Since they were only used on open/close ROM I just made a remappable hotkey entry for both. See if this fixes your problem.

In general it is not a good idea to use ctrl, alt, or shift as hotkeys. In this case weird things are happening because FCEUX has accel keys built into it. Ctrl+O opens a rom, for instance.

Oh I forgot to post this. This fixes the frame counter bug. It turns out it was introduced when porting over some of Bisqwit's patch. http://fceux.com So this is the .4 interim.

Wow, I have no idea about that. I didn't do anything different to the help file. Perhaps just copy over the helpfile from .2. Nothing is different (come to think of it, I even forgot to add the .3 changelog to it)

As of May 17th, 2022, VBA is no longer allowed for GB/SGB/GBC submissions. GBA submissions are still allowed, but may become deprecated soon.
VBA is the primary emulator used to record GB/SGB/GBC/GBA TAS movies. The rerecording project is VBA-rercording The project is maintained at github: http://github.com/TASVideos/vba-rerecording It has a WIN32 and SDL version. However, the SDL version is sorely outdated and not currently available on via SVN. (It can be provided upon request). The win32 version compiles with VS2003/2005/2008/2010. Any coding help is greatly appreciated. Particularly, we are in strong need of someone to help get the SDL version useable. If interested, I can be PMed on the forums.
