This movie was published without obsoleting the SNES version, not because it was decided it shouldn't nor does it set a precedent for future decisions. It is not too late to tack on the obsoletion so it would still be valuable to continue that discussion.

However, the .fm2 would have only been about 92kb as well once it was zipped. EDIT: Correction, the .zip of the .fm2 is only 28k :P

Ok, I guess it is time to update the status of this situation. We have bought a server and began the process of transferring TASVideos! Here is the current cost/donation information: 12 months paid in advance: $340.54 (10% discount compared to the usual $29.95) Contriubtions so far: $250 by Anon. * $100 by adelikat $60 by Anon. $40 by Anon $60 by Bisqwit $50 by Anon $40 by Anon $30 by Anon $30 by Tombad $10.28 by BadPotato Total: 670.28 -340.54 12 months paid - 2.64 paypal transaction fees Balance: 327.10 *Pending transaction, done by mail, won't receive the check until Monday-ish All contributions are anonymous until the doners specifically tell me they don't might it being public (1 person has specifically requested it to remain anon.) The balance will be put in an interest bearing account to only be used for operational costs (monthly fees after the first year, domain registration, etc). The contributions so far have been awesome. I can't think you guys enough. TASVideos really needed some folks to step up in order to stay alive, and we came through. TASVideos is now secure for 1 year minimum. The server costs is still tentative. We have a 30 days cancellation and going on an assumption that we will be able to optimize ram consumption enough to meet our ram limit. If not, we are looking at another upgrade which bumps our monthly fee a good bit. I'll keep everyone up to date on future changes. Once the site is transerred, I will find an easy method of keeping the site budge status public and up to date.

Yes vote, very nice improvements. And whatever you do, do NOT do the 100% run! (Just trying to be different)

Can you let us know how much money is needed at the start, and on an ongoing basis? That would help people figure out what an appropriate donation (given their personal resources) would be.
That's a hard question to answer since I can't really guage what I will get on a reliable basis. I'd say if several people contributed monthly regularly, it would only need to be like $5-$10. Right now it would be quicker & cheaper if people can lump a few months in at once right away.

Dedicated servers from a reputable renter are generally between $100-$200 for a low-mid range unit. per month.
Well, with Nach's ingenuity, trimming some fat, & some deals, we will get something cheaper than this range.

Update: Nach and I have decided on a good dedicated server that will meet the demands of the site. However, it will cost a monthly fee. In order to make this happen, we will need an initial sum of money. As Bisqwit has made quite clear, this transition needs to happen soon in order to avoid TASvideos crashing and burning. So I am asking all those who are willing to donate, to go ahead and do so, in order to get this process going. I will be collecting the donations, and can be paypal'ed using andres.delikat@gmail.com. If you perfer other method of contributing, you can PM me. I hate having to make a post that involves asking money from people, as that very much against my personality. However, the idea of this community falling aparts pains me greatly. Let's fight to keep it alive!

http://code.google.com/p/mednafen-rr/downloads/list Mednafen-rr v1.1 released. The main differences are for windows users. Atari Lynx, Wonderswan, and Neo Geo pocket are now compatible. Also, there is a Windows Mednafen front end packaged with it. It is designed specifically for mednafen-rr and movie related features.

$10 a month. Well if the site can generate at least $10 a month, via ads/donations or whatever, then yes, I can go for that.
Yeah, we can set up ads again. Also, I and some other would be willing to donate.

Considering so many people seem to be voting no/meh based on the ending, I think it would be better to fix it and submit as a new movie in order to get a more accurate poll result.

Ending was a bad choice. I assume you could kill him faster by actually kililng him even though the input would be longer. I'm not always against ending sooner at the expense of game completion (I've even done it in a few of my runs) but in this case it looks really bad. Up until the last battle I was in the "meh" range leaning towards a weak yes.

Nice improvement but still voting no. This is just a copy of the NES Mode B run.

The only way to do this run justice is to go 4 player. I could get on board with a playaround idea for this one too if there is enough variety. Either way, I'd at least like to see it for nostalgic value.

There was a time when that sentence would have contradicted itself. I prefer the standards that require a movie to be spectacular in order to be published, than the ones that require a movie to be horrible in order to be rejected
That's such a well put, eloquent, articulated point. I love it. And yeah, I always preferred TASvideos to have a "best of the best" image rather than just a place that houses all the TASes. However, I feel like that opinion is in the minority now.

This is not an half-assed attempt. It beats the game as fast as possible. With a different kind of car. There is no point in the guidelines that says that I can't play with a suboptimal character (or vehicle in this case).
That fine except: 1) You know it was improvable and told me before you submitted 2) There is an unassisted attempt with the very same vehicle that beats yours by 6 seconds 3) You didn't know it was a suboptimal vehicle when you made it 4) There is no reason to use a suboptimal vehicle for this game, it in no way adds entertainment value, in fact, it lowers it.

I wonder why there must always be someone who tries to throw shit on the TASes I make. When I said in irc that there is a bias against me I wasn't joking. When other people make TASes there isn't a whole storm of detectives trying to find errors at any cost (even inventing them like in this case). I'm tired of this.
This kind of garbage talk will not be tolerated. I'm sick of your whining of some bias against you. Your movie failed to beat a unassisted speedrun. Somebody was kind enough to link you to the information you should have took the time to research yourself. You are welcome. This isn't some conspiracy against you. It is you intentionally making a half-assed attempt and being upset when someone notices. Consider this your warning. No more fowling up the forums with this nonsense. And unlike Bisqwit, I only give 1 warning.
