Since there seems to be such a vehement resentment of this technique, should the existing run(s) be placed in Gruefood?
At the very least, I do not think it deserves a star. I also think a TAS that maintains some dependency between the drawings and the answers for every answer should obsolete the published run. As for unpublishing runs, my understanding is that this is nearly impossible to do (as in the site is not capable of functionally doing it).

Maybe this type of order of operations error is related to the glitch?
I think you're onto something. If you watch the video, it seems that mario gets ejected from the wall after being vertically warped. He gets ejected into the level, facing inwards. For this to happen, I think the behavior you identified makes a lot of sense. This combined with the ceiling collisions may be what's causing this behavior. *edit* just realized he is ejected while still facing outwards. I still think you may be onto something though.

I'd error on the side of better art - after all, we've literally reduced this game to the point that it's a series of drawing pad sheets and we're effectively exhibiting art that serves a purpose in and of itself (albeit using a quite absurd method). The art itself *IS* the point because at that point it's the artwork that gets the attention, not the game!
Then I say we take out ALL the stops and just TAS drawings and animations into Flipnote Studio.

After AGDQ 2015, micro500 began working on a DS Bot to be used ag AGDQ 2016. Brain Age seemed like a great game to showcase TASing and to provide significant entertainment. There is even a published TAS with a star. In discussions about developing a movie specifically for AGDQ, some great concepts (spoilers warning) were developed. The published, starred, Brain Age movie was entertaining because while entering a variety of detailed drawings the author was able to fool the games character recognition algorithm. While working on the AGDQ concept though, xy2_ and micro500 discovered that it was possible to write an invisible answer separately from an aesthetic drawing. This is demonstrated in the following video (at least the invisible answer part): Link to video These two tricks (which I'll allow them to describe in more detail) combined totally break apart the game. This is very impressive and will be exceedingly helpful for the AGDQ demonstration. The problem is that this really takes some of the magic away from tricking the game with complicated drawings (a sentiment that Masterjun and ais523 shared in IRC). So, here's the pickle: We now have the ability to answer the Brain Age question correctly, off screen and then draw whatever we want visibly. These are two independent actions and that makes the drawing 100% superfluous and a 1:1 speed to entertainment tradeoff. Judging the entertainment of such a run quickly becomes more of an art studio than a technical accomplishment. Here's my take. I still think using these tricks for AGDQ makes sense (but I think we should hold back on the technical nuance that the answers are completely separate from the drawings). For a TAS submitted for publication on this site, however, I think we've entered an area that is too much "Color a Dinosaur" or "Mario Paint" where we draw simply because we can. To me, such a TAS does not belong on the site, or at least it does not clearly fit in the current scheme. I'm curious what others think.

I used this trick in my Micro Machines TAS for N64. I had to hex edit every level because I found it so late. It saved a lot of time though. A similar trick works in Diddy Kong Racing.

I respectfully disagree. I think it is respectful of RachelB to use her passing as motivation to speak up and ask for help. I think that is a very positive reaction to such a huge loss.

This is so sad. I saw her post often and wasn't aware of any negative thoughts she may have had. If anyone here is contemplating suicide please reach out to any of your friends for help. We don't want to lose anyone. :(

cue micro500 (he backed the project, as did I). Since he managed to get Jabo (closed source) integrated in BizHawk, I think he should have no problem getting this working.

I think a mission mode TAS of this game is a great choice. Nice job with the game resources page!

The fact that your vehicle was a miniature weiner mobile made this even more comical.

Aren't we a friendly bunch :^P I think this type of video walk through could be helpful to get people to try BizHawk. I agree too much time was spent on how to find it online. It's not an official reference quality video but it's probably useful for n00bs.

Looks like you may lose a few seconds after coming out of the deck vent as you just sit there for quite some time. (seriously though, nice tight run).

Homerfunky, I thought I read somewhere that extreme edition also had some extra stars. Is that true?

I really enjoyed this movie, especially having played through 151 stars a couple years ago. One thing that is, unfortunately, highlighted by this TAS is how annoying it can be to keep getting back into levels. The start locations are very far away from some levels. I don't understand why this TAS used different approaches to repeatedly get back into levels. If one was faster, that one should have been used repeatedly. I assume it could have just been hex edited in once it was done once (maybe not after the fact but at least while making the TAS). This was a huge achievement for a single TASer and first attempt on the full game completion. Yes vote. P.S. Is Extreme Edition very different from this? How does it differ and why was this version not used?

The plugin comes with the latest release of BizHawk. So, you can download that release and probably find it in one of the directories. Or you could, you know, use the superior TASing emulator that fully supports Jabo. (alternatively, I believe this is the direct download http://www.jabosoft.com/articles/114 )

Holy cow, where did this TAS come from? I wasn't expecting it but I'll need to carve out some time this weekend to enjoy it. I played through this and it was very hard.

Slowing, how did you take the screenshot? Wire frame view in a certain plugin?

I'm working on a table that includes input in the N64 mnemonic format used in .bk2 files (i.e. |rP| -XXX, -YYY,UDLRUDLRSZBAudrllr|). This format requires the use of multiple spaces in front of analog values under a magnitude of 100. I have not found a way to produce two spaces in a row on this site (having referenced this http://tasvideos.org/TextFormattingRules.html#TableOfContents and having tried   as well). Is this possible? The page I'm updating is at http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/N64/MarioKart64.html

A few updates I wanted to share: 1. I've nearly finished a major re-haul of my script and added an item bot thanks largely to micro500. I plan to upload and document the script soon. 2. I've begun filling in http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/N64/MarioKart64.html and hope to have a lot of TAS relevant stuff documented there within the next week or two. 3. I have a free weekend on March 14 - 15. I plan to TAS and stream quite a bit then. 4. This TAS will be completed this year.

Kyman, it's strange that the 2012 TAS jumped so directly into the wall. It makes sense that yours is faster but is there a reason the 2012 TAS didn't take a more direct path?

Peach, Toad and Yoshi are identical in time trials. In GP, Toad is preferable because he bounces higher off of other characters. Yoshi is the best otherwise as it's two frames faster to choose him on the menu.
